crypto: api - Add fips_enable flag Add the ability to turn FIPS-compliant mode on or off at boot In order to be FIPS compliant, several check may need to be preformed that may be construed as unusefull in a non-compliant mode. This patch allows us to set a kernel flag incating that we are running in a fips-compliant mode from boot up. It also exports that mode information to user space via a sysctl (/proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled). Tested successfully by me. crypto: fips - Remove bogus inclusion of internal.h The header file internal.h is only meant for internal crypto API implementors such as rng.c. So fips has no business in including it. This patch removes that inclusions and instead adds inclusions of the actual features used by fips. Signed-off-by: Herbert Xu <herbert@gondor.apana.org.au>

crypto: fips - Move fips_enabled sysctl into fips.c There is currently a large ifdef FIPS code section in proc.c. Ostensibly it's there because the fips_enabled sysctl sits under /proc/sys/crypto. However, no other crypto sysctls exist. In fact, the whole ethos of the crypto API is against such user interfaces so this patch moves all the FIPS sysctl code over to fips.c. crypto: fips - add FIPS test failure notification chain Crypto test failures in FIPS mode cause an immediate panic, but on some system the cryptographic boundary extends beyond just the Linux controlled domain. Add a simple atomic notification chain to allow interested parties to register to receive notification prior to us kicking the bucket. crypto: fips - make proc files report fips module name and version FIPS 140-3 introduced a requirement for the FIPS module to return information about itself, specifically a name and a version. These values must match the values reported on FIPS certificates. This patch adds two files to read a name and a version from: /proc/sys/crypto/fips_name /proc/sys/crypto/fips_version v2: removed redundant parentheses in config entries. v3: move FIPS_MODULE_* defines to fips.c where they are used. v4: return utsrelease.h inclusion Signed-off-by: Simo Sorce <simo@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Vladis Dronov <vdronov@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Herbert Xu <herbert@gondor.apana.org.au>

treewide: const qualify ctl_tables where applicable Add the const qualifier to all the ctl_tables in the tree except for watchdog_hardlockup_sysctl, memory_allocation_profiling_sysctls, loadpin_sysctl_table and the ones calling register_net_sysctl (./net, drivers/inifiniband dirs). These are special cases as they use a registration function with a non-const qualified ctl_table argument or modify the arrays before passing them on to the registration function. Constifying ctl_table structs will prevent the modification of proc_handler function pointers as the arrays would reside in .rodata. This is made possible after commit 78eb4ea25cd5 ("sysctl: treewide: constify the ctl_table argument of proc_handlers") constified all the proc_handlers. Created this by running an spatch followed by a sed command: Spatch: virtual patch @ depends on !(file in "net") disable optional_qualifier @ identifier table_name != { watchdog_hardlockup_sysctl, iwcm_ctl_table, ucma_ctl_table, memory_allocation_profiling_sysctls, loadpin_sysctl_table }; @@ + const struct ctl_table table_name [] = { ... }; sed: sed --in-place \ -e "s/struct ctl_table .table = &uts_kern/const struct ctl_table *table = \&uts_kern/" \ kernel/utsname_sysctl.c Reviewed-by: Song Liu <song@kernel.org> Acked-by: Steven Rostedt (Google) <rostedt@goodmis.org> # for kernel/trace/ Reviewed-by: Martin K. Revert "crypto: run initcalls for generic implementations earlier" This reverts commit c4741b23059794bd99beef0f700103b0d983b3fd. Crypto API self-tests no longer run at registration time and now occur either at late_initcall or upon the first use. Therefore the premise of the above commit no longer exists. Revert it and subsequent additions of subsys_initcall and arch_initcall. Note that lib/crypto calls will stay at subsys_initcall (or rather downgraded from arch_initcall) because they may need to occur before Crypto API registration.
