Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!

[PATCH] bitops: sh: make thread_info.flags an unsigned long The test_bit() routines are defined to work on a pointer to unsigned long. But thread_info.flags is __u32 (unsigned int) on sh and it is passed to flag set/clear/test wrappers in include/linux/thread_info.h. So the compiler will print warnings. This patch changes to unsigned long instead. sh: TS_RESTORE_SIGMASK conversion. Replace TIF_RESTORE_SIGMASK with TS_RESTORE_SIGMASK and define our own set_restore_sigmask() function. This saves the costly SMP-safe set_bit operation, which we do not need for the sigmask flag since TIF_SIGPENDING always has to be set too. Based on the x86 and powerpc change. [PATCH] streamline preempt_count type across archs The preempt_count member of struct thread_info is currently either defined as int, unsigned int or __s32 depending on arch. This patch makes the type of preempt_count an int on all archs. Having preempt_count be an unsigned type prevents the catching of preempt_count < 0 bugs, and using int on some archs and __s32 on others is not exactely "neat" - much nicer when it's just int all over. A previous version of this patch was already ACK'ed by Robert Love, and the only change in this version of the patch compared to the one he ACK'ed is that this one also makes sure the preempt_count member is consistently commented. [PATCH] sh: PREEMPT_ACTIVE fix Port Paulus's ppc64 fix to sh: When the generic IRQ stuff went in, it seems that HARDIRQ_BITS got bumped from 9 (for ppc64) up to 12. Consequently, the PREEMPT_ACTIVE bit is now within HARDIRQ_MASK, and I get in_interrupt() falsely returning true when PREEMPT_ACTIVE is set, and thus a BUG_ON tripping in arch/ppc64/mm/tlb.c. sh: Minor optimisations to FPU handling A number of small optimisations to FPU handling, in particular: - move the task USEDFPU flag from the thread_info flags field (which is accessed asynchronously to the thread) to a new status field, which is only accessed by the thread itself. This allows locking to be removed in most cases, or can be reduced to a preempt_lock(). This mimics the i386 behaviour. - move the modification of regs->sr and thread_info->status flags out of save_fpu() to __unlazy_fpu(). This gives the compiler a better chance to optimise things, as well as making save_fpu() symmetrical with restore_fpu() and init_fpu(). - implement prepare_to_copy(), so that when creating a thread, we can unlazy the FPU prior to copying the thread data structures. Also make sure that the FPU is disabled while in the kernel, in particular while booting, and for newly created kernel threads, In a very artificial benchmark, the execution time for 2500000 context switches was reduced from 50 to 45 seconds. sh: Move over to dynamically allocated FPU context. This follows the x86 xstate changes and implements a task_xstate slab cache that is dynamically sized to match one of hard FP/soft FP/FPU-less. This also tidies up and consolidates some of the SH-2A/SH-4 FPU fragmentation. Now fpu state restorers are commonly defined, with the init_fpu()/fpu_init() mess reworked to follow the x86 convention. The fpu_init() register initialization has been replaced by xstate setup followed by writing out to hardware via the standard restore path. As init_fpu() now performs a slab allocation a secondary lighterweight restorer is also introduced for the context switch. In the future the DSP state will be rolled in here, too. More work remains for math emulation and the SH-5 FPU, which presently uses its own special (UP-only) interfaces. Signed-off-by: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org>

sh: Fixup various PAGE_SIZE == 4096 assumptions. There were a number of places that made evil PAGE_SIZE == 4k assumptions that ended up breaking when trying to play with 8k and 64k page sizes, this fixes those up. The most significant change is the way we load THREAD_SIZE, previously this was done via: mov #(THREAD_SIZE >> 8), reg shll8 reg to avoid a memory access and allow the immediate load. With a 64k PAGE_SIZE, we're out of range for the immediate load size without resorting to special instructions available in later ISAs (movi20s and so on). The "workaround" for this is to bump up the shift to 10 and insert a shll2, which gives a bit more flexibility while still being much cheaper than a memory access. sh: Add ftrace syscall tracing support Now that I've added TIF_SYSCALL_FTRACE the thread flags do not fit into a single byte any more. Code testing them now needs to be aware of the upper and lower bytes. Signed-off-by: Matt Fleming <matt@console-pimps.org> Signed-off-by: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org>

sh: Wire up HAVE_SYSCALL_TRACEPOINTS. This is necessary to get ftrace syscall tracing working again.. a fairly trivial and mechanical change. The one benefit is that this can also be enabled on sh64, despite not having its own ftrace port. Signed-off-by: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org>

sh: Make syscall tracer use tracehook notifiers, add TIF_NOTIFY_RESUME. This follows the changes in commits: 7d6d637dac2050f30a1b57b0a3dc5de4a10616ba 4f72c4279eab1e5f3ed1ac4e55d4527617582392 on powerpc. Adding in TIF_NOTIFY_RESUME, and cleaning up the syscall tracing to be more generic. This is an incremental step to turning on tracehook, as well as unifying more of the ptrace and signal code across the 32/64 split. Signed-off-by: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org>

sh: TS_RESTORE_SIGMASK conversion. Let it rip!

sh: Minor optimisations to FPU handling A number of small optimisations to FPU handling, in particular: - move the task USEDFPU flag from the thread_info flags field (which is accessed asynchronously to the thread) to a new status field, which is only accessed by the thread itself.
