arm64: unwind: add asynchronous unwind tables to kernel and modules Enable asynchronous unwind table generation for both the core kernel as well as modules, and emit the resulting .eh_frame sections as init code so we can use the unwind directives for code patching at boot or module load time. This will be used by dynamic shadow call stack support, which will rely on code patching rather than compiler codegen to emit the shadow call stack push and pop instructions. lib: add allocation tagging support for memory allocation profiling Introduce CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING which provides definitions to easily instrument memory allocators. It registers an "alloc_tags" codetag type with /proc/allocinfo interface to output allocation tag information when the feature is enabled. CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_DEBUG is provided for debugging the memory allocation profiling instrumentation. Memory allocation profiling can be enabled or disabled at runtime using /proc/sys/vm/mem_profiling sysctl when CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_DEBUG=n. CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_ENABLED_BY_DEFAULT enables memory allocation profiling by default. objtool, modules: Discard objtool annotation sections for modules The '__unreachable' and '__func_stack_frame_non_standard' sections are only used at compile time. They're discarded for vmlinux but they should also be discarded for modules. Since this is a recurring pattern, prefix the section names with ".discard.". It's a nice convention and vmlinux.lds.h already discards such sections. Also remove the 'a' (allocatable) flag from the __unreachable section since it doesn't make sense for a discarded section. kbuild: keep symbols for symbol_get() even with CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS Linus observed that the symbol_request(utf8_data_table) call fails when CONFIG_UNICODE=y and CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS=y. symbol_get() relies on the symbol data being present in the ksymtab for symbol lookups. However, EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL(utf8_data_table) is dropped due to CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS, as no module references it in this case. Probably, this has been broken since commit dbacb0ef670d ("kconfig option for TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS"). This commit addresses the issue by leveraging modpost. Symbol names passed to symbol_get() are recorded in the special .no_trim_symbol section, which is then parsed by modpost to forcibly keep such symbols. The .no_trim_symbol section is discarded by the linker scripts, so there is no impact on the size of the final vmlinux or modules. This commit cannot resolve the issue for direct calls to __symbol_get() because the symbol name is not known at compile-time. Although symbol_get() may eventually be deprecated, this workaround should be good enough meanwhile. module: Sort exported symbols This patch places every exported symbol in its own section (i.e. "___ksymtab+printk"). Thus the linker will use its SORT() directive to sort and finally merge all symbol in the right and final section (i.e. "__ksymtab"). The symbol prefixed archs use an underscore as prefix for symbols. To avoid collision we use a different character to create the temporary section names. modules: Ensure 64-bit alignment on __ksymtab_* sections On 64-bit architectures without CONFIG_HAVE_ARCH_PREL32_RELOCATIONS (e.g. ppc64, ppc64le, parisc, s390x,...) the __KSYM_REF() macro stores 64-bit pointers into the __ksymtab* sections. Make sure that those sections will be correctly aligned at module link time, otherwise unaligned memory accesses may happen at runtime. As per unaligned-memory-access [0] "unaligned memory accesses [...] will not work correctly on certain platforms and will cause performance problems on others", so fix this. The __kcrctab* sections store 32-bit entities, so use ALIGN(4) for those. kernel: add support for .init_array.* constructors KASan uses constructors for initializing redzones for global variables. Globals instrumentation in GCC 4.9.2 produces constructors with priority (.init_array.00099) Currently kernel ignores such constructors. Only constructors with default priority supported (.init_array) This patch adds support for constructors with priorities. For kernel image we put pointers to constructors between __ctors_start/__ctors_end and do_ctors() will call them on start up. For modules we merge .init_array.* sections into resulting .init_array. Module code properly handles constructors in .init_array section. module: combine constructors in module linker script The constructor code for modules must be aware of init code inside different sections. Newer GCC compilers write constructors in more than one section, e.g. ".ctors.65435". These must be combined into a single ".ctors" section. In the module loader, only the ".ctors" section is searched and the constructors therein are initialized, when CONFIG_CONSTRUCTORS=y is set. Other constructors are ignored. This change combines all ".ctors.*" and the ".ctors" section, if any, in <module>.ko into a single ."ctors" section. For code coverage in GCC, this is necessary to show the code coverage for modules, since code coverage uses such constructors when initializing a module in newer version of GCC. modules: Ensure natural alignment for .altinstructions and __bug_table sections In the kernel image vmlinux.lds.S linker scripts the .altinstructions and __bug_table sections are 4- or 8-byte aligned because they hold 32- and/or 64-bit values. Most architectures use altinstructions and BUG() or WARN() in modules as well, but in the module linker script (module.lds.S) those sections are currently missing. As consequence the linker will store their content byte-aligned by default, which then can lead to unnecessary unaligned memory accesses by the CPU when those tables are processed at runtime. Usually unaligned memory accesses are unnoticed, because either the hardware (as on x86 CPUs) or in-kernel exception handlers (e.g. on parisc or sparc) emulate and fix them up at runtime. Nevertheless, such unaligned accesses introduce a performance penalty and can even crash the kernel if there is a bug in the unalignment exception handlers (which happened once to me on the parisc architecture and which is why I noticed that issue at all). This patch fixes a non-critical issue and might be backported at any time. It's trivial and shouldn't introduce any regression because it simply tells the linker to use a different (8-byte alignment) for those sections by default. alloc_tag: load module tags into separate contiguous memory When a module gets unloaded there is a possibility that some of the allocations it made are still used and therefore the allocation tags corresponding to these allocations are still referenced. As such, the memory for these tags can't be freed. This is currently handled as an abnormal situation and module's data section is not being unloaded. To handle this situation without keeping module's data in memory, allow codetags with longer lifespan than the module to be loaded into their own separate memory. The in-use memory areas and gaps after module unloading in this separate memory are tracked using maple trees. Allocation tags arrange their separate memory so that it is virtually contiguous and that will allow simple allocation tag indexing later on in this patchset. The size of this virtually contiguous memory is set to store up to 100000 allocation tags. linker script: throw away .discard section x86 throws away .discard section but no other archs do. Also, .discard is not thrown away while linking modules. Make every arch and module linking throw it away. This will be used to define dummy variables for percpu declarations and definitions. This patch is based on Ivan Kokshaysky's alpha percpu patch. [ Impact: always throw away everything in .discard ] Signed-off-by: Tejun Heo <tj@kernel.org> Cc: Ivan Kokshaysky <ink@jurassic.park.msu.ru> Cc: Richard Henderson <rth@twiddle.net> Cc: Russell King <linux@arm.linux.org.uk> Cc: Haavard Skinnemoen <hskinnemoen@atmel.com> Cc: Bryan Wu <cooloney@kernel.org> Cc: Mikael Starvik <starvik@axis.com> Cc: Jesper Nilsson <jesper.nilsson@axis.com> Cc: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Cc: Yoshinori Sato <ysato@users.sourceforge.jp> Cc: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com> Cc: Hirokazu Takata <takata@linux-m32r.org> Cc: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> Cc: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu> Cc: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org> Cc: Kyle McMartin <kyle@mcmartin.ca> Cc: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Cc: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org> Cc: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com> Cc: Heiko Carstens <heiko.carstens@de.ibm.com> Cc: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org> Cc: David S. kbuild: preprocess module linker script There was a request to preprocess the module linker script like we do for the vmlinux one. (https://lkml.org/lkml/2020/8/21/512) The difference between vmlinux.lds and module.lds is that the latter is needed for external module builds, thus must be cleaned up by 'make mrproper' instead of 'make clean'. Also, it must be created by 'make modules_prepare'. You cannot put it in arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/, which is cleaned up by 'make clean'. I moved arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/module.lds to arch/$(SRCARCH)/include/asm/module.lds.h, which is included from scripts/module.lds.S. scripts/module.lds is fine because 'make clean' keeps all the build artifacts under scripts/. You can add arch-specific sections in <asm/module.lds.h>.
