Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!

ARM: add support to dump the kernel page tables This patch allows the kernel page tables to be dumped via a debugfs file, allowing kernel developers to check the layout of the kernel page tables and the verify the various permissions and type settings. ARM: implement CONFIG_STRICT_DEVMEM by disabling access to RAM via /dev/mem There are very few legitimate use cases, if any, for directly accessing system RAM through /dev/mem. ARM: ftrace: enable function graph tracer Add the options to enable the function graph tracer on ARM. Function graph tracer support requires frame pointers, so exclude Thumb-2 and also make sure FRAME_POINTER gets enabled when FUNCTION_GRAPH_TRACER is used, since FUNCTION_TRACER doesn't "select FRAME_POINTER" when ARM_UNWIND is used. Therefore, with GCC 4.4.0+, you get plain function tracing without frame pointers, but you'll need them if you want function graph tracing. This is essential for Thumb-2 support, since frame pointers aren't available then. ARM: 7073/1: debug: augment DEBUG_LL Kconfig help to clarify behaviour Enabled DEBUG_LL hardcodes the UART address into the kernel and results in a non-portable kernel image. Since this option is only intended for use when debugging early boot failures, supporting multiple platforms in such a configuration is not the intended use-case. This patch documents this limitation in the DEBUG_LL Kconfig help text, so that users are aware of the portability restrictions that are associated with enabling low-level debugging support. If the user inadvertently selects multiple platforms with DEBUG_LL enabled, the UART address may not be correct and will likely cause the kernel to hang in the very early stages of boot. This patch, based on a skeleton from Russell, uses a Kconfig choice for selecting the DEBUG_LL UART, therefore allowing the user to make a choice about the supported platform when DEBUG_LL is enabled. ARM: zynq: Allow UART1 to be used as DEBUG_LL console. The main UART on the Xilinx ZC702 board is UART1, located at address e0001000. Add a Kconfig option to select this device as the low-level debugging port. This allows the really early boot printouts to reach the USB serial adaptor on this board. For consistency's sake, add a choice entry for UART0 even though it is the the default if UART1 is not selected. arm: mvebu: add another earlyprintk Kconfig option In order to support both old and new bootloaders, we add a new Kconfig option for the earlyprintk UART selection. The existing option allows to work with old bootloaders (that keep the internal registers mapped at 0xd0000000), while the newly introduced option allows to work with new bootloaders (that remap the internal registers at 0xf1000000). However, it will not be useful for any real work, because it relies on a number of useful things to be disabled for now: * SMP support must be turned off because of conflicting symbols. If the user inadvertently selects multiple platforms with DEBUG_LL enabled, the UART address may not be correct and will likely cause the kernel to hang in the very early stages of boot. This patch, based on a skeleton from Russell, uses a Kconfig choice for selecting the DEBUG_LL UART, therefore allowing the user to make a choice about the supported platform when DEBUG_LL is enabled. The 'range' of the Kconfig option gets dropped, as users looking at the option must know the uart number on his board. The bottom line is that the build system will report an error if an invalid port number is picked for given SoC. The header arch/arm/include/debug/imx-uart.h is created to accommodate all the uart base addresses. And the header will also be used for other low-level debug facility later. The 'range' of the Kconfig option gets dropped, as users looking at the option must know the uart number on his board. The bottom line is that the build system will report an error if an invalid port number is picked for given SoC. The header arch/arm/include/debug/imx-uart.h is created to accommodate all the uart base addresses. And the header will also be used for other low-level debug facility later. ARM: davinci: remove tnetv107x support The tnetv107x support does not compile, and seems to have been broken for a while with nobody caring to fix it. So far everyone I asked said it's probably dead and completely unused and will never again be needed in a future kernel release, so let's delete it. If someone finds a use for this code later and is able to get it to work again, we can always revert the removal. ARM: 7672/1: uncompress debug support for multiplatform build Instead of giving zero support of uncompress debug for multiplatform build, the patch turns uncompress debug into one part of DEBUG_LL support. When DEBUG_LL is turned on for a particular platform, uncompress debug works too for that platform. OMAP and Tegra are exceptions here. OMAP low-level debug code places data in the .data section, and that is not allowed in decompressor. And Tegra code has reference to variable that's unavailable in decompressor but only in kernel. That's why Kconfig symbol DEBUG_UNCOMPRESS controlling multiplatform uncompress debug support is defined with !DEBUG_OMAP2PLUS_UART && !DEBUG_TEGRA_UART. It creates arch/arm/boot/compressed/debug.S with CONFIG_DEBUG_LL_INCLUDE included there, implements a generic putc() using those macros, which will be built when DEBUG_UNCOMPRESS is defined. ARM: document DEBUG_UNCOMPRESS Kconfig option This non-user visible option lacked any kind of documentation. This is quite common for non-user visible options; certian people can't understand the point of documenting such options with help text. However, here we have a case in point: developers don't understand the option either, as they were thinking that when the option is not set, the decompressor should produce no output what so ever. This is incorrect, as the purpose of this option is to control whether a multiplatform kernel uses the kernel debugging macros to produce output or not. Solve this by declaring this symbol in tegra.S when it is being built into the decompressor. For the kernel proper, leave the declaration in mach-tegra/common.c as explained in the comment. ARM: document DEBUG_UNCOMPRESS Kconfig option This non-user visible option lacked any kind of documentation. This is quite common for non-user visible options; certian people can't understand the point of documenting such options with help text. However, here we have a case in point: developers don't understand the option either, as they were thinking that when the option is not set, the decompressor should produce no output what so ever. This is incorrect, as the purpose of this option is to control whether a multiplatform kernel uses the kernel debugging macros to produce output or not. ARM: 7672/1: uncompress debug support for multiplatform build Instead of giving zero support of uncompress debug for multiplatform build, the patch turns uncompress debug into one part of DEBUG_LL support. When DEBUG_LL is turned on for a particular platform, uncompress debug works too for that platform. OMAP and Tegra are exceptions here. OMAP low-level debug code places data in the .data section, and that is not allowed in decompressor. And Tegra code has reference to variable that's unavailable in decompressor but only in kernel. That's why Kconfig symbol DEBUG_UNCOMPRESS controlling multiplatform uncompress debug support is defined with !DEBUG_OMAP2PLUS_UART && !DEBUG_TEGRA_UART. It creates arch/arm/boot/compressed/debug.S with CONFIG_DEBUG_LL_INCLUDE included there, implements a generic putc() using those macros, which will be built when DEBUG_UNCOMPRESS is defined. ARM: 7445/1: mm: update CONTEXTIDR register to contain PID of current process This patch introduces a new Kconfig option which, when enabled, causes the kernel to write the PID of the current task into the PROCID field of the CONTEXTIDR on context switch. This is useful when analysing hardware trace, since writes to this register can be configured to emit an event into the trace stream. The thread notifier for writing the PID is deliberately kept separate from the ASID-writing code so that we can support newer processors using LPAE, where the ASID is stored in TTBR0. As such, the switch_mm code is updated to perform a read-modify-write sequence to ensure that we don't clobber the PID on CPUs using the classic 2-level page tables. Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
