34fdc6c621 driver core: Don't let a device probe until it's ready
[ Upstream commit a2225b6e83 ]

The moment we link a "struct device" into the list of devices for the
bus, it's possible probe can happen. This is because another thread
can load the driver at any time and that can cause the device to
probe. This has been seen in practice with a stack crawl that looks
like this [1]:

  really_probe()
  __driver_probe_device()
  driver_probe_device()
  __driver_attach()
  bus_for_each_dev()
  driver_attach()
  bus_add_driver()
  driver_register()
  __platform_driver_register()
  init_module() [some module]
  do_one_initcall()
  do_init_module()
  load_module()
  __arm64_sys_finit_module()
  invoke_syscall()

As a result of the above, it was seen that device_links_driver_bound()
could be called for the device before "dev->fwnode->dev" was
assigned. This prevented __fw_devlink_pickup_dangling_consumers() from
being called which meant that other devices waiting on our driver's
sub-nodes were stuck deferring forever.

It's believed that this problem is showing up suddenly for two
reasons:
1. Android has recently (last ~1 year) implemented an optimization to
   the order it loads modules [2]. When devices opt-in to this faster
   loading, modules are loaded one-after-the-other very quickly. This
   is unlike how other distributions do it. The reproduction of this
   problem has only been seen on devices that opt-in to Android's
   "parallel module loading".
2. Android devices typically opt-in to fw_devlink, and the most
   noticeable issue is the NULL "dev->fwnode->dev" in
   device_links_driver_bound(). fw_devlink is somewhat new code and
   also not in use by all Linux devices.

Even though the specific symptom where "dev->fwnode->dev" wasn't
assigned could be fixed by moving that assignment higher in
device_add(), other parts of device_add() (like the call to
device_pm_add()) are also important to run before probe. Only moving
the "dev->fwnode->dev" assignment would likely fix the current
symptoms but lead to difficult-to-debug problems in the future.

Fix the problem by preventing probe until device_add() has run far
enough that the device is ready to probe. If somehow we end up trying
to probe before we're allowed, __driver_probe_device() will return
-EPROBE_DEFER which will make certain the device is noticed.

In the race condition that was seen with Android's faster module
loading, we will temporarily add the device to the deferred list and
then take it off immediately when device_add() probes the device.

Instead of adding another flag to the bitfields already in "struct
device", instead add a new "flags" field and use that. This allows us
to freely change the bit from different thread without worrying about
corrupting nearby bits (and means threads changing other bit won't
corrupt us).

17f1675a47 device property: Make modifications of fwnode "flags" thread safe
commit f72e77c33e upstream.

In various places in the kernel, we modify the fwnode "flags" member
by doing either:
  fwnode->flags |= SOME_FLAG;
  fwnode->flags &= ~SOME_FLAG;

This type of modification is not thread-safe. If two threads are both
mucking with the flags at the same time then one can clobber the
other.

While flags are often modified while under the "fwnode_link_lock",
this is not universally true.

Create some accessor functions for setting, clearing, and testing the
FWNODE flags and move all users to these accessor functions. New
accessor functions use set_bit() and clear_bit(), which are
thread-safe.

b9ef4b0aa9 drivers: base: Free devm resources when unregistering a device
[ Upstream commit 699fb50d99 ]

In the current code, devres_release_all() only gets called if the device
has a bus and has been probed.

This leads to issues when using bus-less or driver-less devices where
the device might never get freed if a managed resource holds a reference
to the device. This is happening in the DRM framework for example.

We should thus call devres_release_all() in the device_del() function to
make sure that the device-managed actions are properly executed when the
device is unregistered, even if it has neither a bus nor a driver.

This is effectively the same change than commit 2f8d16a996 ("devres:
release resources on device_del()") that got reverted by commit
a525a3ddea ("driver core: free devres in device_release") over
memory leaks concerns.

This patch effectively combines the two commits mentioned above to
release the resources both on device_del() and device_release() and get
the best of both worlds.

b6dd1a562c PM: runtime: Fix a race condition related to device removal
[ Upstream commit 29ab768277 ]

The following code in pm_runtime_work() may dereference the dev->parent
pointer after the parent device has been freed:

	/* Maybe the parent is now able to suspend. */
	if (parent && !parent->power.ignore_children) {
		spin_unlock(&dev->power.lock);

		spin_lock(&parent->power.lock);
		rpm_idle(parent, RPM_ASYNC);
		spin_unlock(&parent->power.lock);

		spin_lock(&dev->power.lock);

Fix this by inserting a flush_work() call in pm_runtime_remove().

Without this patch blktest block/001 triggers the following complaint

5b51b2ba52 device property: Allow secondary lookup in fwnode_get_next_child_node()
commit 2692c614f8 upstream.

When device_get_child_node_count() got split to the fwnode and device
respective APIs, the fwnode didn't inherit the ability to traverse over
the secondary fwnode. Hence any user, that switches from device to fwnode
API misses this feature. In particular, this was revealed by the commit
1490cbb9db ("device property: Split fwnode_get_child_node_count()")
that effectively broke the GPIO enumeration on Intel Galileo boards.
Fix this by moving the secondary lookup from device to fwnode API.

Note, in general no device_*() API should go into the depth of the fwnode
implementation.

e84e1451a0 PM: sleep: wakeirq: harden dev_pm_clear_wake_irq() against races
[ Upstream commit 5c9ecd8e64 ]

dev_pm_clear_wake_irq() currently uses a dangerous pattern where
dev->power.wakeirq is read and checked for NULL outside the lock.
If two callers invoke this function concurrently, both might see
a valid pointer and proceed. This could result in a double-free
when the second caller acquires the lock and tries to release the
same object.

Address this by removing the lockless check of dev->power.wakeirq.
Instead, acquire dev->power.lock immediately to ensure the check and
the subsequent operations are atomic. If dev->power.wakeirq is NULL
under the lock, simply unlock and return. This guarantees that
concurrent calls cannot race to free the same object.

Based on a quick scan of current users, I did not find an actual bug as
drivers seem to rely on their own synchronization. However, since
asynchronous usage patterns exist (e.g., in
drivers/net/wireless/ti/wlcore), I believe a race is theoretically
possible if the API is used less carefully in the future. This change
hardens the API to be robust against such cases.

to &slimbus->dev). Correct it. The wcd934x codec seems to be the only or
the first user of devm_regmap_init_slimbus() but we should fix it till
the point where __devm_regmap_init_slimbus() was introduced therefore
two "Fixes" tags.

While at this, also correct the same argument in __regmap_init_slimbus().

02fbea0864 arch_topology: Fix incorrect error check in topology_parse_cpu_capacity()
[ Upstream commit 2eead19334 ]

Fix incorrect use of PTR_ERR_OR_ZERO() in topology_parse_cpu_capacity()
which causes the code to proceed with NULL clock pointers. The current
logic uses !PTR_ERR_OR_ZERO(cpu_clk) which evaluates to true for both
valid pointers and NULL, leading to potential NULL pointer dereference
in clk_get_rate().

Per include/linux/err.h documentation, PTR_ERR_OR_ZERO(ptr) returns:
"The error code within @ptr if it is an error pointer; 0 otherwise."

This means PTR_ERR_OR_ZERO() returns 0 for both valid pointers AND NULL
pointers. Therefore !PTR_ERR_OR_ZERO(cpu_clk) evaluates to true (proceed)
when cpu_clk is either valid or NULL, causing clk_get_rate(NULL) to be
called when of_clk_get() returns NULL.

Replace with !IS_ERR_OR_NULL(cpu_clk) which only proceeds for valid
pointers, preventing potential NULL pointer dereference in clk_get_rate().

0eddc0e5ae drivers/base/node: fix double free in register_one_node()
[ Upstream commit 0efdedfa53 ]

When device_register() fails in register_node(), it calls
put_device(&node->dev). This triggers node_device_release(), which calls
kfree(to_node(dev)), thereby freeing the entire node structure.

As a result, when register_node() returns an error, the node memory has
already been freed. Calling kfree(node) again in register_one_node()
leads to a double free.

This patch removes the redundant kfree(node) from register_one_node() to
prevent the double free.

45052d9220 PM: sleep: core: Clear power.must_resume in noirq suspend error path
[ Upstream commit be82483d1b ]

If system suspend is aborted in the "noirq" phase (for instance, due to
an error returned by one of the device callbacks), power.is_noirq_suspended
will not be set for some devices and device_resume_noirq() will return
early for them. Consequently, noirq resume callbacks will not run for
them at all because the noirq suspend callbacks have not run for them
yet.

If any of them has power.must_resume set and late suspend has been
skipped for it (due to power.smart_suspend), early resume should be
skipped for it either, or its state may become inconsistent (for
instance, if the early resume assumes that it will always follow
noirq resume).

Make that happen by clearing power.must_resume in device_resume_noirq()
for devices with power.is_noirq_suspended clear that have been left in
suspend by device_suspend_late(), which will subsequently cause
device_resume_early() to leave the device in suspend and avoid
changing its state.

c8aefc5994 regmap: fix potential memory leak of regmap_bus
[ Upstream commit c871c199ac ]

When __regmap_init() is called from __regmap_init_i2c() and
__regmap_init_spi() (and their devm versions), the bus argument
obtained from regmap_get_i2c_bus() and regmap_get_spi_bus(), may be
allocated using kmemdup() to support quirks. In those cases, the
bus->free_on_exit field is set to true.

However, inside __regmap_init(), buf is not freed on any error path.
This could lead to a memory leak of regmap_bus when __regmap_init()
fails. Fix that by freeing bus on error path when free_on_exit is set.

abd7d5fb33 PM: runtime: fix denying of auto suspend in pm_suspend_timer_fn()
[ Upstream commit 40d3b40dce ]

pm_runtime_put_autosuspend() schedules a hrtimer to expire
at "dev->power.timer_expires". If the hrtimer's callback,
pm_suspend_timer_fn(), observes that the current time equals
"dev->power.timer_expires", it unexpectedly bails out instead of
proceeding with runtime suspend.

pm_suspend_timer_fn():

 if (expires > 0 && expires < ktime_get_mono_fast_ns()) {
 	dev->power.timer_expires = 0;
 	rpm_suspend(..)
 }

Additionally, as ->timer_expires is not cleared, all the future auto
suspend requests will not schedule hrtimer to perform auto suspend.

rpm_suspend():

 if ((rpmflags & RPM_AUTO) &&...) {
 	if (!(dev->power.timer_expires && ...) { <-- this will fail.
 		hrtimer_start_range_ns(&dev->power.suspend_timer,...);
 	}
 }

Fix this by as well checking if current time reaches the set expiration.

277006dd68 PM: sleep: Fix power.is_suspended cleanup for direct-complete devices
[ Upstream commit d46c4c839c ]

Commit 03f1444016 ("PM: sleep: Fix handling devices with direct_complete
set on errors") caused power.is_suspended to be set for devices with
power.direct_complete set, but it forgot to ensure the clearing of that
flag for them in device_resume(), so power.is_suspended is still set for
them during the next system suspend-resume cycle.

If that cycle is aborted in dpm_suspend(), the subsequent invocation of
dpm_resume() will trigger a device_resume() call for every device and
because power.is_suspended is set for the devices in question, they will
not be skipped by device_resume() as expected which causes scary error
messages to be logged (as appropriate).

To address this issue, move the clearing of power.is_suspended in
device_resume() immediately after the power.is_suspended check so it
will be always cleared for all devices processed by that function.

e30bcefa93 x86/its: Enable Indirect Target Selection mitigation
commit f4818881c4 upstream.

Indirect Target Selection (ITS) is a bug in some pre-ADL Intel CPUs with
eIBRS. It affects prediction of indirect branch and RETs in the
lower half of cacheline. Due to ITS such branches may get wrongly predicted
to a target of (direct or indirect) branch that is located in the upper
half of the cacheline.

Scope of impact
===============

Guest/host isolation
--------------------
When eIBRS is used for guest/host isolation, the indirect branches in the
VMM may still be predicted with targets corresponding to branches in the
guest.

Intra-mode
----------
cBPF or other native gadgets can be used for intra-mode training and
disclosure using ITS.

User/kernel isolation
---------------------
When eIBRS is enabled user/kernel isolation is not impacted.

Indirect Branch Prediction Barrier (IBPB)
-----------------------------------------
After an IBPB, indirect branches may be predicted with targets
corresponding to direct branches which were executed prior to IBPB. This is
mitigated by a microcode update.

Add cmdline parameter indirect_target_selection=off|on|force to control the
mitigation to relocate the affected branches to an ITS-safe thunk i.e.
located in the upper half of cacheline. Also add the sysfs reporting.

When retpoline mitigation is deployed, ITS safe-thunks are not needed,
because retpoline sequence is already ITS-safe. Similarly, when call depth
tracking (CDT) mitigation is deployed (retbleed=stuff), ITS safe return
thunk is not used, as CDT prevents RSB-underflow.

To not overcomplicate things, ITS mitigation is not supported with
spectre-v2 lfence;jmp mitigation. Moreover, it is less practical to deploy
lfence;jmp mitigation on ITS affected parts anyways.

0236f723b4 drivers: base: devres: Allow to release group on device release
[ Upstream commit 8e1ddfada4 ]

When releasing a device, if the release action causes a group to be
released, a warning is emitted because it can't find the group. This
happens because devres_release_all() moves the entire list to a todo
list and also move the group markers. Considering r* normal resource
nodes and g1 a group resource node:

		    g1 -----------.
		    v		  v
	r1 -> r2 -> g1[0] -> r3-> g[1] -> r4

After devres_release_all(), dev->devres_head becomes empty and the todo
list it iterates on becomes:

			       g1
			       v
	r1 -> r2 -> r3-> r4 -> g1[0]

When a call to component_del() is made and takes down the aggregate
device, a warning like this happen:

	RIP: 0010:devres_release_group+0x362/0x530
	...
	Call Trace:
	 <TASK>
	 component_unbind+0x156/0x380

	 intel_hdcp_component_fini+0xf1/0x170 [xe]
	 xe_display_fini+0x1e/0x40 [xe]

Because the devres group corresponding to the hdcp component cannot be
found. Just ignore this corner case: if the dev->devres_head is empty
and the caller is trying to remove a group, it's likely in the process
of device cleanup so just ignore it instead of warning.

4eb3afae45 PM: sleep: Fix handling devices with direct_complete set on errors
[ Upstream commit 03f1444016 ]

When dpm_suspend() fails, some devices with power.direct_complete set
may not have been handled by device_suspend() yet, so runtime PM has
not been disabled for them yet even though power.direct_complete is set.

Since device_resume() expects that runtime PM has been disabled for all
devices with power.direct_complete set, it will attempt to reenable
runtime PM for the devices that have not been processed by device_suspend()
which does not make sense. Had those devices had runtime PM disabled
before device_suspend() had run, device_resume() would have inadvertently
enable runtime PM for them, but this is not expected to happen because
it would require ->prepare() callbacks to return positive values for
devices with runtime PM disabled, which would be invalid.

In practice, this issue is most likely benign because pm_runtime_enable()
will not allow the "disable depth" counter to underflow, but it causes a
warning message to be printed for each affected device.

To allow device_resume() to distinguish the "direct complete" devices
that have been processed by device_suspend() from those which have not
been handled by it, make device_suspend() set power.is_suspended for
"direct complete" devices.

Next, move the power.is_suspended check in device_resume() before the
power.direct_complete check in it to make it skip the "direct complete"
devices that have not been handled by device_suspend().

This change is based on a preliminary patch from Saravana Kannan.

The call trace shows that kvasprintf() reported this warning during the
printing of core_siblings_list. kvasprintf() has several steps:

 (1) First, calculate the length of the resulting formatted string.

 (2) Allocate a buffer based on the returned length.

 (3) Then, perform the actual string formatting.

 (4) Check whether the lengths of the formatted strings returned in
     steps (1) and (2) are consistent.

If the core_cpumask is modified between steps (1) and (3), the lengths
obtained in these two steps may not match. Indeed our test includes cpu
hotplugging, which should modify core_cpumask while printing.

To fix this issue, cache the cpumask into a temporary variable before
calling cpumap_print_{list, cpumask}_to_buf(), to keep it unchanged
during the printing process.

c15e2ab4fe device property: Add fwnode_irq_get_byname
[ Upstream commit ca0acb511c ]

Add fwnode_irq_get_byname() to get an interrupt by name from either
ACPI table or Device Tree, whichever is used for enumeration.

In the ACPI case, this allow us to use 'interrupt-names' in
_DSD which can be mapped to Interrupt() resource by index.
The implementation is similar to 'interrupt-names' in the
Device Tree.

This patch introduces a new helper routine - fwnode_iomap(), which
allows to map the memory mapped IO for a given device node.

This implementation does not cover the ACPI case and may be expanded
in the future. The main purpose here is to be able to develop resource
provider agnostic drivers.

a77fc4acfd firmware_loader: Block path traversal
commit f0e5311aa8 upstream.

Most firmware names are hardcoded strings, or are constructed from fairly
constrained format strings where the dynamic parts are just some hex
numbers or such.

However, there are a couple codepaths in the kernel where firmware file
names contain string components that are passed through from a device or
semi-privileged userspace; the ones I could find (not counting interfaces
that require root privileges) are:

 - lpfc_sli4_request_firmware_update() seems to construct the firmware
   filename from "ModelName", a string that was previously parsed out of
   some descriptor ("Vital Product Data") in lpfc_fill_vpd()
 - nfp_net_fw_find() seems to construct a firmware filename from a model
   name coming from nfp_hwinfo_lookup(pf->hwinfo, "nffw.partno"), which I
   think parses some descriptor that was read from the device.
   (But this case likely isn't exploitable because the format string looks
   like "netronome/nic_%s", and there shouldn't be any *folders* starting
   with "netronome/nic_". The previous case was different because there,
   the "%s" is *at the start* of the format string.)
 - module_flash_fw_schedule() is reachable from the
   ETHTOOL_MSG_MODULE_FW_FLASH_ACT netlink command, which is marked as
   GENL_UNS_ADMIN_PERM (meaning CAP_NET_ADMIN inside a user namespace is
   enough to pass the privilege check), and takes a userspace-provided
   firmware name.
   (But I think to reach this case, you need to have CAP_NET_ADMIN over a
   network namespace that a special kind of ethernet device is mapped into,
   so I think this is not a viable attack path in practice.)

Fix it by rejecting any firmware names containing ".." path components.

For what it's worth, I went looking and haven't found any USB device
drivers that use the firmware loader dangerously.

9c23fc327d driver core: Fix uevent_show() vs driver detach race
commit 15fffc6a56 upstream.

uevent_show() wants to de-reference dev->driver->name. There is no clean
way for a device attribute to de-reference dev->driver unless that
attribute is defined via (struct device_driver).dev_groups. Instead, the
anti-pattern of taking the device_lock() in the attribute handler risks
deadlocks with code paths that remove device attributes while holding
the lock.

This deadlock is typically invisible to lockdep given the device_lock()
is marked lockdep_set_novalidate_class(), but some subsystems allocate a
local lockdep key for @dev->mutex to reveal reports of the form:

The observation though is that driver objects are typically much longer
lived than device objects. It is reasonable to perform lockless
de-reference of a @driver pointer even if it is racing detach from a
device. Given the infrequency of driver unregistration, use
synchronize_rcu() in module_remove_driver() to close any potential
races. It is potentially overkill to suffer synchronize_rcu() just to
handle the rare module removal racing uevent_show() event.
