ASIX AX88772B based USB 10/100 Ethernet adapter doesn't come
up ("carrier off"), despite the built-in 100BASE-FX PHY positive link
indication. The internal PHY is configured (using EEPROM) in fixed
100 Mbps full duplex mode.
The primary problem appears to be using carrier_netif_{on,off}() while,
at the same time, delegating carrier management to phylink. Use only the
latter and remove "manual control" in the asix driver.
I don't have any other AX88772 board here, but the problem doesn't seem
specific to a particular board or settings - it's probably
timing-dependent.
Remove unused asix_adjust_link() as well.

commit 9ad0452c02 upstream.
In mii_nway_restart() the code attempts to call
mii->mdio_read which is ch9200_mdio_read(). ch9200_mdio_read()
utilises a local buffer called "buff", which is initialised
with control_read(). However "buff" is conditionally
initialised inside control_read():
if (err == size) {
memcpy(data, buf, size);
}
If the condition of "err == size" is not met, then
"buff" remains uninitialised. Once this happens the
uninitialised "buff" is accessed and returned during
ch9200_mdio_read():
return (buff[0] | buff[1] << 8);
The problem stems from the fact that ch9200_mdio_read()
ignores the return value of control_read(), leading to
uinit-access of "buff".
To fix this we should check the return value of
control_read() and return early on error.

Syzkaller, courtesy of syzbot, identified an error (see report [1]) in
aqc111 driver, caused by incomplete sanitation of usb read calls'
results. This problem is quite similar to the one fixed in commit
920a9fa27e ("net: asix: add proper error handling of usb read errors").
For instance, usbnet_read_cmd() may read fewer than 'size' bytes,
even if the caller expected the full amount, and aqc111_read_cmd()
will not check its result properly. As [1] shows, this may lead
to MAC address in aqc111_bind() being only partly initialized,
triggering KMSAN warnings.
Fix the issue by verifying that the number of bytes read is
as expected and not less.

Lenovo ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock (17ef:a359) is affected by
the same problem as the Lenovo Powered USB-C Travel Hub (17ef:721e):
Both are based on the Realtek RTL8153B chip used to use the cdc_ether
driver. However, using this driver, with the system suspended the device
constantly sends pause-frames as soon as the receive buffer fills up.
This causes issues with other devices, where some Ethernet switches stop
forwarding packets altogether.
Using the Realtek driver (r8152) fixes this issue. Pause frames are no
longer sent while the host system is suspended.

Set FLAG_WWAN instead of FLAG_ETHERNET for RNDIS interfaces on Mobile
Broadband Modems, as opposed to regular Ethernet adapters.
Otherwise NetworkManager gets confused, misjudges the device type,
and wouldn't know it should connect a modem to get the device to work.
What would be the result depends on ModemManager version -- older
ModemManager would end up disconnecting a device after an unsuccessful
probe attempt (if it connected without needing to unlock a SIM), while
a newer one might spawn a separate PPP connection over a tty interface
instead, resulting in a general confusion and no end of chaos.
The only way to get this work reliably is to fix the device type
and have good enough version ModemManager (or equivalent).

commit 2ea396448f upstream.
commit 8a7d12d674 ("net: usb: usbnet: fix name regression") assumed
that local addresses always came from the kernel, but some devices hand
out local mac addresses so we ended up with point-to-point devices with
a mac set by the driver, renaming to eth%d when they used to be named
usb%d.
Userspace should not rely on device name, but for the sake of stability
restore the local mac address check portion of the naming exception:
point to point devices which either have no mac set by the driver or
have a local mac handed out by the driver will keep the usb%d name.
(some USB LTE modems are known to hand out a stable mac from the locally
administered range; that mac appears to be random (different for
mulitple devices) and can be reset with device-specific commands, so
while such devices would benefit from getting a OUI reserved, we have
to deal with these and might as well preserve the existing behavior
to avoid breaking fragile openwrt configurations and such on upgrade.)

commit efcbc678a1 upstream.
Originally, the total NCM header size was computed as the sum of two
vaguely labelled constants. While accurate, it wasn't particularly clear
where they were coming from.
Use sizes of existing NCM structs where available. Define the total
NDP16 size based on the maximum amount of DPEs that can fit into the
iOS-specific fixed-size header.
This change does not fix any particular issue. Rather, it introduces
intermediate constants that will simplify subsequent commits.
It should also make it clearer for the reader where the constant values
come from.

commit 86586dcb75 upstream.
Original code allowed for the start of NDP16 to be anywhere within the
URB based on the `wNdpIndex` value in NTH16. Only the start position of
NDP16 was checked, so it was possible for even the fixed-length part
of NDP16 to extend past the end of URB, leading to an out-of-bounds
read.
On iOS devices, the NDP16 header always directly follows NTH16. Rely on
and check for this specific format.
This, along with NCM-specific minimal URB length check that already
exists, will ensure that the fixed-length part of NDP16 plus a set
amount of DPEs fit within the URB.
Note that this commit alone does not fully address the OoB read.
The limit on the amount of DPEs needs to be enforced separately.

Apart from the standard "configurations", "interfaces" and "alternate
interface settings" in USB, iOS devices also have a notion of
"modes". In different modes, the device exposes a different set of
available configurations.
Depending on the iOS version, and depending on the current mode, the
length and contents of the carrier state control message differs:
* 1 byte (seen on iOS 4.2.1, 8.4):
* 03: carrier off (mode 0)
* 04: carrier on (mode 0)
* 3 bytes (seen on iOS 10.3.4, 15.7.6):
* 03 03 03: carrier off (mode 0)
* 04 04 03: carrier on (mode 0)
* 4 bytes (seen on iOS 16.5, 17.6):
* 03 03 03 00: carrier off (mode 0)
* 04 03 03 00: carrier off (mode 1)
* 06 03 03 00: carrier off (mode 4)
* 04 04 03 04: carrier on (mode 0 and 1)
* 06 04 03 04: carrier on (mode 4)
Before this change, the driver always used the first byte of the
response to determine carrier state.
From this larger sample, the first byte seems to indicate the number of
available USB configurations in the current mode (with the exception of
the default mode 0), and in some cases (namely mode 1 and 4) does not
correlate with the carrier state.
Previous logic erroneously counted `04 03 03 00` as "carrier on" and
`06 04 03 04` as "carrier off" on iOS versions that support mode 1 and
mode 4 respectively.
Only modes 0, 1 and 4 expose the USB Ethernet interfaces necessary for
the ipheth driver.
Check the second byte of the control message where possible, and fall
back to checking the first byte on older iOS versions.

RX callbacks can fail for multiple reasons:
* Payload too short
* Payload formatted incorrecly (e.g. bad NCM framing)
* Lack of memory
None of these should cause the driver to seize up.
Make such failures non-critical and continue processing further
incoming URBs.

On iPhone 15 Pro Max one can observe periodic URBs with no payload
on the "bulk in" (RX) endpoint. These don't seem to do anything
meaningful. Reproduced on iOS 17.5.1 and 17.6.
This behaviour isn't observed on iPhone 11 on the same iOS version. The
nature of these zero-length URBs is so far unknown.
Drop RX URBs with no payload.

Rx URB length was already checked in ipheth_rcvbulk_callback_legacy()
and ipheth_rcvbulk_callback_ncm(), depending on the current mode.
The check in ipheth_rcvbulk_callback() was thus mostly a duplicate.
The only place in ipheth_rcvbulk_callback() where we care about the URB
length is for the initial control frame. These frames are always 4 bytes
long. This has been checked as far back as iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3G.
Remove the extraneous URB length check. For control frames, check for
the specific 4-byte length instead.

ipheth_sndbulk_callback() can submit carrier_work
as a part of its error handling. That means that
the driver must make sure that the work is cancelled
after it has made sure that no more URB can terminate
with an error condition.
Hence the order of actions in ipheth_close() needs
to be inverted.

It could lead to error happen because the variable res is not updated if
the call to sr_share_read_word returns an error. In this particular case
error code was returned and res stayed uninitialized. Same issue also
applies to sr_read_reg.
This can be avoided by checking the return value of sr_share_read_word
and sr_read_reg, and propagating the error if the read operation failed.
