bf495b9c23 scsi: libsas: remove the numbering for each event enum
commit 0d78f969b1 upstream.

Numbering for each event enum makes no sense. Remove the numbering so
that we don't have to calculate the number by hand every time.

27d2d1dcad sctp: Fix mangled IPv4 addresses on a IPv6 listening socket
commit 9302d7bb0c upstream.

sctp_v4_map_v6 was subtly writing and reading from members
of a union in a way the clobbered data it needed to read before
it read it.

Zeroing the v6 flowinfo overwrites the v4 sin_addr with 0, meaning
that every place that calls sctp_v4_map_v6 gets ::ffff:0.0.0.0 as the
result.

Reorder things to guarantee correct behaviour no matter what the
union layout is.

This impacts user space clients that open an IPv6 SCTP socket and
receive IPv4 connections. Prior to 299ee user space would see a
sockaddr with AF_INET and a correct address, after 299ee the sockaddr
is AF_INET6, but the address is wrong.

c3de339f17 x86: fix build warnign with 32-bit PAE
I ran into a 4.9 build warning in randconfig testing, starting with the
KAISER patches:

arch/x86/kernel/ldt.c: In function 'alloc_ldt_struct':
arch/x86/include/asm/pgtable_types.h:208:24: error: large integer implicitly truncated to unsigned type [-Werror=overflow]
 #define __PAGE_KERNEL  (__PAGE_KERNEL_EXEC | _PAGE_NX)
                        ^
arch/x86/kernel/ldt.c:81:6: note: in expansion of macro '__PAGE_KERNEL'
      __PAGE_KERNEL);
      ^~~~~~~~~~~~~

I originally ran into this last year when the patches were part of linux-next,
and tried to work around it by using the proper 'pteval_t' types consistently,
but that caused additional problems.

This takes a much simpler approach, and makes the argument type of the dummy
helper always 64-bit, which is wide enough for any page table layout and
won't hurt since this call is just an empty stub anyway.

9ffb15cb89 nospec: Include <asm/barrier.h> dependency
commit eb6174f6d1 upstream.

The nospec.h header expects the per-architecture header file
<asm/barrier.h> to optionally define array_index_mask_nospec(). Include
that dependency to prevent inadvertent fallback to the default
array_index_mask_nospec() implementation.

The default implementation may not provide a full mitigation
on architectures that perform data value speculation.

58bfafe0fd nospec: Kill array_index_nospec_mask_check()
commit 1d91c1d2c8 upstream.

There are multiple problems with the dynamic sanity checking in
array_index_nospec_mask_check():

* It causes unnecessary overhead in the 32-bit case since integer sized
  @index values will no longer cause the check to be compiled away like
  in the 64-bit case.

* In the 32-bit case it may trigger with user controllable input when
  the expectation is that should only trigger during development of new
  kernel enabling.

* The macro reuses the input parameter in multiple locations which is
  broken if someone passes an expression like 'index++' to
  array_index_nospec().

bac58dda1a nospec: Move array_index_nospec() parameter checking into separate macro
commit 8fa80c503b upstream.

For architectures providing their own implementation of
array_index_mask_nospec() in asm/barrier.h, attempting to use WARN_ONCE() to
complain about out-of-range parameters using WARN_ON() results in a mess
of mutually-dependent include files.

Rather than unpick the dependencies, simply have the core code in nospec.h
perform the checking for us.

3feddbaccb vfs, fdtable: Prevent bounds-check bypass via speculative execution
commit 56c30ba7b3 upstream.

'fd' is a user controlled value that is used as a data dependency to
read from the 'fdt->fd' array. In order to avoid potential leaks of
kernel memory values, block speculative execution of the instruction
stream that could issue reads based on an invalid 'file *' returned from
__fcheck_files.

0510dfd3cc array_index_nospec: Sanitize speculative array de-references
commit f380420330 upstream.

array_index_nospec() is proposed as a generic mechanism to mitigate
against Spectre-variant-1 attacks, i.e. an attack that bypasses boundary
checks via speculative execution. The array_index_nospec()
implementation is expected to be safe for current generation CPUs across
multiple architectures (ARM, x86).

Based on an original implementation by Linus Torvalds, tweaked to remove
speculative flows by Alexei Starovoitov, and tweaked again by Linus to
introduce an x86 assembly implementation for the mask generation.

5ebf8d581c module/retpoline: Warn about missing retpoline in module
commit caf7501a1b upstream.

There's a risk that a kernel which has full retpoline mitigations becomes
vulnerable when a module gets loaded that hasn't been compiled with the
right compiler or the right option.

To enable detection of that mismatch at module load time, add a module info
string "retpoline" at build time when the module was compiled with
retpoline support. This only covers compiled C source, but assembler source
or prebuilt object files are not checked.

If a retpoline enabled kernel detects a non retpoline protected module at
load time, print a warning and report it in the sysfs vulnerability file.

1550db1c7f kconfig.h: use __is_defined() to check if MODULE is defined
commit 4f920843d2 upstream.

The macro MODULE is not a config option, it is a per-file build
option. So, config_enabled(MODULE) is not sensible. (There is
another case in include/linux/export.h, where config_enabled() is
used against a non-config option.)

This commit renames some macros in include/linux/kconfig.h for the
use for non-config macros and replaces config_enabled(MODULE) with
__is_defined(MODULE).

I am keeping config_enabled() because it is still referenced from
some places, but I expect it would be deprecated in the future.

commit 87590ce6e3 upstream.

As the meltdown/spectre problem affects several CPU architectures, it makes
sense to have common way to express whether a system is affected by a
particular vulnerability or not. If affected the way to express the
mitigation should be common as well.

Create /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities folder and files for
meltdown, spectre_v1 and spectre_v2.

Allow architectures to override the show function.

7acba7c062 blk-mq: fix race between timeout and freeing request
commit 0048b4837a upstream.

Inside timeout handler, blk_mq_tag_to_rq() is called
to retrieve the request from one tag. This way is obviously
wrong because the request can be freed any time and some
fiedds of the request can't be trusted, then kernel oops
might be triggered[1].

Currently wrt. blk_mq_tag_to_rq(), the only special case is
that the flush request can share same tag with the request
cloned from, and the two requests can't be active at the same
time, so this patch fixes the above issue by updating tags->rqs[tag]
with the active request(either flush rq or the request cloned
from) of the tag.

Also blk_mq_tag_to_rq() gets much simplified with this patch.

Given blk_mq_tag_to_rq() is mainly for drivers and the caller must
make sure the request can't be freed, so in bt_for_each() this
helper is replaced with tags->rqs[tag].

764e93142f mac80211_hwsim: validate number of different channels

When creating a new radio on the fly, hwsim allows this

72b6dbd9dc sh_eth: fix SH7757 GEther initialization
commit 5133550296 upstream.

Renesas SH7757 has 2 Fast and 2 Gigabit Ether controllers, while the
'sh_eth' driver can only reset and initialize TSU of the first controller
pair. Shimoda-san tried to solve that adding the 'needs_init' member to the
'struct sh_eth_plat_data', however the platform code still never sets this
flag. I think that we can infer this information from the 'devno' variable
(set to 'platform_device::id') and reset/init the Ether controller pair
only for an even 'devno'; therefore 'sh_eth_plat_data::needs_init' can be
removed...

b2485fc48d fscache: Fix the default for fscache_maybe_release_page()
commit 9880150655 upstream.

Fix the default for fscache_maybe_release_page() for when the cookie isn't
valid or the page isn't cached. It mustn't return false as that indicates
the page cannot yet be freed.

The problem with the default is that if, say, there's no cache, but a
network filesystem's pages are using up almost all the available memory, a
system can OOM because the filesystem ->releasepage() op will not allow
them to be released as fscache_maybe_release_page() incorrectly prevents
it.

This can be tested by writing a sequence of 512MiB files to an AFS mount.
It does not affect NFS or CIFS because both of those wrap the call in a
check of PG_fscache and it shouldn't bother Ceph as that only has
PG_private set whilst writeback is in progress. This might be an issue for
9P, however.

Note that the pages aren't entirely stuck. Removing a file or unmounting
will clear things because that uses ->invalidatepage() instead.

8337601005 xfrm: Reinject transport-mode packets through tasklet
commit acf568ee85 upstream.

This is an old bugbear of mine:

https://www.mail-archive.com/netdev@vger.kernel.org/msg03894.html

By crafting special packets, it is possible to cause recursion
in our kernel when processing transport-mode packets at levels
that are only limited by packet size.

The easiest one is with DNAT, but an even worse one is where
UDP encapsulation is used in which case you just have to insert
an UDP encapsulation header in between each level of recursion.

This patch avoids this problem by reinjecting tranport-mode packets

commit 73459e2a1a upstream.

This reverts commits 0a4e6be9ca
and 80f7fdb1c7.

The task migration notifier was originally introduced in order to support
the pvclock vsyscall with non-synchronized TSC, but KVM only supports it
with synchronized TSC. Hence, on KVM the race condition is only needed
due to a bad implementation on the host side, and even then it's so rare
that it's mostly theoretical.

As far as KVM is concerned it's possible to fix the host, avoiding the
additional complexity in the vDSO and the (re)introduction of the task
migration notifier.

Xen, on the other hand, hasn't yet implemented vsyscall support at
all, so we do not care about its plans for non-synchronized TSC.

15828f7bce sctp: Fixup v4mapped behaviour to comply with Sock API
commit 299ee123e1 upstream.

The SCTP socket extensions API document describes the v4mapping option as
follows:

8.1.15.  Set/Clear IPv4 Mapped Addresses (SCTP_I_WANT_MAPPED_V4_ADDR)

   This socket option is a Boolean flag which turns on or off the
   mapping of IPv4 addresses. If this option is turned on, then IPv4
   addresses will be mapped to V6 representation. If this option is
   turned off, then no mapping will be done of V4 addresses and a user
   will receive both PF_INET6 and PF_INET type addresses on the socket.
   See [RFC3542] for more details on mapped V6 addresses.

This description isn't really in line with what the code does though.

Introduce addr_to_user (renamed addr_v4map), which should be called
before any sockaddr is passed back to user space. The new function
places the sockaddr into the correct format depending on the
SCTP_I_WANT_MAPPED_V4_ADDR option.

Audit all places that touched v4mapped and either sanely construct
a v4 or v6 address then call addr_to_user, or drop the
unnecessary v4mapped check entirely.

Audit all places that call addr_to_user and verify they are on a sycall
return path.

Add a custom getname that formats the address properly.

Several bugs are addressed:
 - SCTP_I_WANT_MAPPED_V4_ADDR=0 often returned garbage for
   addresses to user space
 - The addr_len returned from recvmsg was not correct when
   returning AF_INET on a v6 socket
 - flowlabel and scope_id were not zerod when promoting
   a v4 to v6
 - Some syscalls like bind and connect behaved differently
   depending on v4mapped

Tested bind, getpeername, getsockname, connect, and recvmsg for proper
behaviour in v4mapped = 1 and 0 cases.

f3f6031fd1 blktrace: Fix potential deadlock between delete & sysfs ops
commit 5acb3cc2c2 upstream.

The lockdep code had reported the following unsafe locking scenario:

       CPU0                    CPU1
       ----                    ----
  lock(s_active#228);
                               lock(&bdev->bd_mutex/1);
                               lock(s_active#228);
  lock(&bdev->bd_mutex);

 *** DEADLOCK ***

The deadlock may happen when one task (CPU1) is trying to delete a
partition in a block device and another task (CPU0) is accessing
tracing sysfs file (e.g. /sys/block/dm-1/trace/act_mask) in that
partition.

The s_active isn't an actual lock. It is a reference count (kn->count)
on the sysfs (kernfs) file. Removal of a sysfs file, however, require
a wait until all the references are gone. The reference count is
treated like a rwsem using lockdep instrumentation code.

The fact that a thread is in the sysfs callback method or in the
ioctl call means there is a reference to the opended sysfs or device
file. That should prevent the underlying block structure from being
removed.

Instead of using bd_mutex in the block_device structure, a new
blk_trace_mutex is now added to the request_queue structure to protect
access to the blk_trace structure.

a30372543a target: Avoid early CMD_T_PRE_EXECUTE failures during ABORT_TASK
commit 1c21a48055 upstream.

This patch fixes bug where early se_cmd exceptions that occur
before backend execution can result in use-after-free if/when
a subsequent ABORT_TASK occurs for the same tag.

Since an early se_cmd exception will have had se_cmd added to
se_session->sess_cmd_list via target_get_sess_cmd(), it will
not have CMD_T_COMPLETE set by the usual target_complete_cmd()
backend completion path.

This causes a subsequent ABORT_TASK + __target_check_io_state()
to signal ABORT_TASK should proceed. As core_tmr_abort_task()
executes, it will bring the outstanding se_cmd->cmd_kref count
down to zero releasing se_cmd, after se_cmd has already been
queued with error status into fabric driver response path code.

To address this bug, introduce a CMD_T_PRE_EXECUTE bit that is
set at target_get_sess_cmd() time, and cleared immediately before
backend driver dispatch in target_execute_cmd() once CMD_T_ACTIVE
is set.

Then, check CMD_T_PRE_EXECUTE within __target_check_io_state() to
determine when an early exception has occured, and avoid aborting
this se_cmd since it will have already been queued into fabric
driver response path code.

After several recent works [1,2,3] KASLR on x86_64 was basically
considered dead by many researchers. We have been working on an
efficient but effective fix for this problem and found that not mapping
the kernel space when running in user mode is the solution to this
problem [4] (the corresponding paper [5] will be presented at ESSoS17).

With this RFC patch we allow anybody to configure their kernel with the
flag CONFIG_KAISER to add our defense mechanism.

If there are any questions we would love to answer them.
We also appreciate any comments!

Cheers,
Daniel (+ the KAISER team from Graz University of Technology)

150fbc1221 crypto: hmac - require that the underlying hash algorithm is unkeyed
commit af3ff8045b upstream.

Because the HMAC template didn't check that its underlying hash
algorithm is unkeyed, trying to use "hmac(hmac(sha3-512-generic))"
through AF_ALG or through KEYCTL_DH_COMPUTE resulted in the inner HMAC
being used without having been keyed, resulting in sha3_update() being
called without sha3_init(), causing a stack buffer overflow.

This is a very old bug, but it seems to have only started causing real
problems when SHA-3 support was added (requires CONFIG_CRYPTO_SHA3)
because the innermost hash's state is ->import()ed from a zeroed buffer,
and it just so happens that other hash algorithms are fine with that,
but SHA-3 is not. However, there could be arch or hardware-dependent
hash algorithms also affected; I couldn't test everything.

Fix the bug by introducing a function crypto_shash_alg_has_setkey()
which tests whether a shash algorithm is keyed. Then update the HMAC
template to require that its underlying hash algorithm is unkeyed.

Here is a reproducer:

    #include <linux/if_alg.h>
    #include <sys/socket.h>

    int main()
    {
        int algfd;
        struct sockaddr_alg addr = {
            .salg_type = "hash",
            .salg_name = "hmac(hmac(sha3-512-generic))",
        };
        char key[4096] = { 0 };

        algfd = socket(AF_ALG, SOCK_SEQPACKET, 0);
        bind(algfd, (const struct sockaddr *)&addr, sizeof(addr));
        setsockopt(algfd, SOL_ALG, ALG_SET_KEY, key, sizeof(key));
    }

leaks 5 bytes from the kernel stack (CVE-2017-17741). This patch fixes
it by just accessing the bytes which we operate on.

7dd8d19f44 ptrace: Properly initialize ptracer_cred on fork
commit c70d9d809f upstream.

When I introduced ptracer_cred I failed to consider the weirdness of
fork where the task_struct copies the old value by default. This
winds up leaving ptracer_cred set even when a process forks and
the child process does not wind up being ptraced.

Because ptracer_cred is not set on non-ptraced processes whose
parents were ptraced this has broken the ability of the enlightenment
window manager to start setuid children.

Fix this by properly initializing ptracer_cred in ptrace_init_task

This must be done with a little bit of care to preserve the current value
of ptracer_cred when ptrace carries through fork. Re-reading the
ptracer_cred from the ptracing process at this point is inconsistent
with how PT_PTRACE_CAP has been maintained all of these years.

aa3fbddbb8 ptrace: Don't allow accessing an undumpable mm
commit 84d77d3f06 upstream.

It is the reasonable expectation that if an executable file is not
readable there will be no way for a user without special privileges to
read the file. This is enforced in ptrace_attach but if ptrace
is already attached before exec there is no enforcement for read-only
executables.

As the only way to read such an mm is through access_process_vm
spin a variant called ptrace_access_vm that will fail if the
target process is not being ptraced by the current process, or
the current process did not have sufficient privileges when ptracing
began to read the target processes mm.

In the ptrace implementations replace access_process_vm by
ptrace_access_vm. There remain several ptrace sites that still use
access_process_vm as they are reading the target executables
instructions (for kernel consumption) or register stacks. As such it
does not appear necessary to add a permission check to those calls.

This bug has always existed in Linux.

a0d8337f16 exec: Ensure mm->user_ns contains the execed files
commit f84df2a6f2 upstream.

When the user namespace support was merged the need to prevent
ptrace from revealing the contents of an unreadable executable
was overlooked.

Correct this oversight by ensuring that the executed file
or files are in mm->user_ns, by adjusting mm->user_ns.

Use the new function privileged_wrt_inode_uidgid to see if
the executable is a member of the user namespace, and as such
if having CAP_SYS_PTRACE in the user namespace should allow
tracing the executable. If not update mm->user_ns to

d55a94ed03 ptrace: Capture the ptracer's creds not PT_PTRACE_CAP
commit 64b875f7ac upstream.

When the flag PT_PTRACE_CAP was added the PTRACE_TRACEME path was
overlooked. This can result in incorrect behavior when an application
like strace traces an exec of a setuid executable.

Further PT_PTRACE_CAP does not have enough information for making good
security decisions as it does not report which user namespace the
capability is in. This has already allowed one mistake through
insufficient granulariy.

I found this issue when I was testing another corner case of exec and
discovered that I could not get strace to set PT_PTRACE_CAP even when
running strace as root with a full set of caps.

This change fixes the above issue with strace allowing stracing as
root a setuid executable without disabling setuid. More fundamentaly
this change allows what is allowable at all times, by using the correct
information in it's decision.

d5b3e840db mm: Add a user_ns owner to mm_struct and fix ptrace permission checks
commit bfedb58925 upstream.

During exec dumpable is cleared if the file that is being executed is
not readable by the user executing the file. A bug in
ptrace_may_access allows reading the file if the executable happens to
enter into a subordinate user namespace (aka clone(CLONE_NEWUSER),
unshare(CLONE_NEWUSER), or setns(fd, CLONE_NEWUSER).

This problem is fixed with only necessary userspace breakage by adding
a user namespace owner to mm_struct, captured at the time of exec, so
it is clear in which user namespace CAP_SYS_PTRACE must be present in
to be able to safely give read permission to the executable.

The function ptrace_may_access is modified to verify that the ptracer
has CAP_SYS_ADMIN in task->mm->user_ns instead of task->cred->user_ns.
This ensures that if the task changes it's cred into a subordinate
user namespace it does not become ptraceable.

The function ptrace_attach is modified to only set PT_PTRACE_CAP when
CAP_SYS_PTRACE is held over task->mm->user_ns. The intent of
PT_PTRACE_CAP is to be a flag to note that whatever permission changes
the task might go through the tracer has sufficient permissions for
it not to be an issue. task->cred->user_ns is always the same
as or descendent of mm->user_ns. Which guarantees that having
CAP_SYS_PTRACE over mm->user_ns is the worst case for the tasks
credentials.

To prevent regressions mm->dumpable and mm->user_ns are not considered
when a task has no mm. As simply failing ptrace_may_attach causes
regressions in privileged applications attempting to read things
such as /proc/<pid>/stat

a7a1e985ac ALSA: seq: Avoid invalid lockdep class warning
commit 3510c7aa06 upstream.

The recent fix for adding rwsem nesting annotation was using the given
"hop" argument as the lock subclass key. Although the idea itself
works, it may trigger a kernel warning like:
  BUG: looking up invalid subclass: 8
  ....
since the lockdep has a smaller number of subclasses (8) than we
currently allow for the hops there (10).

The current definition is merely a sanity check for avoiding the too
deep delivery paths, and the 8 hops are already enough. So, as a
quick fix, just follow the max hops as same as the max lockdep
subclasses.

7d1e830887 ALSA: timer: Limit max instances per timer
commit 9b7d869ee5 upstream.

Currently we allow unlimited number of timer instances, and it may
bring the system hogging way too much CPU when too many timer

a soft-lockup report as triggered by syzkaller, especially when

Since such insane number of instances aren't demanded by the normal
use case of ALSA sequencer and it merely opens a risk only for abuse,
this patch introduces the upper limit for the number of instances per

6cefbfcabe tcp: fix tcp_mtu_probe() vs highest_sack
commit 2b7cda9c35 upstream.

Based on SNMP values provided by Roman, Yuchung made the observation
that some crashes in tcp_sacktag_walk() might be caused by MTU probing.

Looking at tcp_mtu_probe(), I found that when a new skb was placed
in front of the write queue, we were not updating tcp highest sack.

If one skb is freed because all its content was copied to the new skb
(for MTU probing), then tp->highest_sack could point to a now freed skb.

Bad things would then happen, including infinite loops.

This patch renames tcp_highest_sack_combine() and uses it
from tcp_mtu_probe() to fix the bug.

Note that I also removed one test against tp->sacked_out,
since we want to replace tp->highest_sack regardless of whatever
condition, since keeping a stale pointer to freed skb is a recipe
for disaster.

Fixes: a47e5a988a ("[TCP]: Convert highest_sack to sk_buff to allow direct access")
