4209946803 perf util: Kill die() prototype, dead for a long time
[ Upstream commit e5cce1b9c8 ]

In fef2a73516 ("perf tools: Kill die()") the die() function was
removed, but not the prototype in util.h, now when building with
LIBPERL=1, during a 'make -C tools/perf build-test' routine test, it is
failing as perl likes die() calls and then this clashes with this
remnant, remove it.

f94103efb4 perf expr: Return -EINVAL for syntax error in expr__find_ids()
[ Upstream commit 3a61fd866e ]

expr__find_ids() propagates the parser return value directly. For syntax
errors, the parser can return a positive value, but callers treat it as
success, e.g., for below case on Arm64 platform:

  metric expr 100 * (STALL_SLOT_BACKEND / (CPU_CYCLES * #slots) - BR_MIS_PRED * 3 / CPU_CYCLES) for backend_bound
  parsing metric: 100 * (STALL_SLOT_BACKEND / (CPU_CYCLES * #slots) - BR_MIS_PRED * 3 / CPU_CYCLES)
  Failure to read '#slots' literal: #slots = nan
  syntax error

Convert positive parser returns in expr__find_ids() to -EINVAL, as a
result, the error value will be respected by callers.

Before:

  perf stat -C 5
  Failure to read '#slots'Failure to read '#slots'Failure to read '#slots'Failure to read '#slots'Segmentation fault

After:

  perf stat -C 5
  Failure to read '#slots'Cannot find metric or group `Default'

b329ad7983 perf: tools: cs-etm: Fix print issue for Coresight debug in ETE/TRBE trace
[ Upstream commit 6c478e7b3e ]

Building perf with CORESIGHT=1 and the optional CSTRACE_RAW=1 enables
additional debug printing of raw trace data when using command:-
perf report --dump.

This raw trace prints the CoreSight formatted trace frames, which may be
used to investigate suspected issues with trace quality / corruption /
decode.

These frames are not present in ETE + TRBE trace.
This fix removes the unnecessary call to print these frames.

This fix also rationalises implementation - original code had helper
function that unnecessarily repeated initialisation calls that had
already been made.

Due to an addtional fault with the OpenCSD library, this call when ETE/TRBE
are being decoded will cause a segfault in perf. This fix also prevents
that problem for perf using older (<= 1.8.0 version) OpenCSD libraries.

4af19a37e7 perf branch: Avoid incrementing NULL
[ Upstream commit c969a9d7bb ]

If the entry is NULL the value is meaningless so early return NULL to

a93127766f ktest: Run POST_KTEST hooks on failure and cancellation
[ Upstream commit bc6e165a45 ]

PRE_KTEST can be useful for setting up the environment and POST_KTEST to
tear it down, however POST_KTEST only runs on the normal end-of-run path.
It is skipped when ktest exits through dodie() or cancel_test(). Final
cleanup hooks are skipped.

Factor the final hook execution into run_post_ktest(), call it from the
normal exit path and from the early exit paths, and guard it so the hook
runs at most once.

16554d0244 ktest: Honor empty per-test option overrides
[ Upstream commit a2de57a3c8 ]

A per-test override can clear an inherited default option by assigning an
empty value, but __set_test_option() still used option_defined() to decide
whether a per-test key existed. That turned an empty per-test assignment
back into "fall back to the default", so tests still could not clear
inherited settings.

For example:

  DEFAULTS
  (...)
  LOG_FILE = /tmp/ktest-empty-override.log
  CLEAR_LOG = 1
  ADD_CONFIG = /tmp/.config

  TEST_START
  TEST_TYPE = build
  BUILD_TYPE = nobuild
  ADD_CONFIG =

This would run the test with ADD_CONFIG[1] = /tmp/.config

Fix by checking whether the per-test key exists before falling back. If it
does exist but is empty, treat it as unset for that test and stop the
fallback chain there.

272b8124e5 selftest: memcg: skip memcg_sock test if address family not supported
[ Upstream commit 2d028f3e4b ]

The test_memcg_sock test in memcontrol.c sets up an IPv6 socket and send
data over it to consume memory and verify that memory.stat.sock and
memory.current values are close.

On systems where IPv6 isn't enabled or not configured to support
SOCK_STREAM, the test_memcg_sock test always fails. When the socket()
call fails, there is no way we can test the memory consumption and verify
the above claim. I believe it is better to just skip the test in this
case instead of reporting a test failure hinting that there may be
something wrong with the memcg code.

a9e777f856 bpf: reject negative CO-RE accessor indices in bpf_core_parse_spec()
[ Upstream commit 1c22483a2c ]

CO-RE accessor strings are colon-separated indices that describe a path
from a root BTF type to a target field, e.g. "0:1:2" walks through
nested struct members. bpf_core_parse_spec() parses each component with
sscanf("%d"), so negative values like -1 are silently accepted. The
subsequent bounds checks (access_idx >= btf_vlen(t)) only guard the
upper bound and always pass for negative values because C integer
promotion converts the __u16 btf_vlen result to int, making the
comparison (int)(-1) >= (int)(N) false for any positive N.

When -1 reaches btf_member_bit_offset() it gets cast to u32 0xffffffff,
producing an out-of-bounds read far past the members array. A crafted
BPF program with a negative CO-RE accessor on any struct that exists in
vmlinux BTF (e.g. task_struct) crashes the kernel deterministically
during BPF_PROG_LOAD on any system with CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF=y
(default on major distributions). The bug is reachable with CAP_BPF:

6d1e65d31e selftests/mqueue: Fix incorrectly named file
commit 64fac99037 upstream.

Commit 85506aca2e ("selftests/mqueue: Set timeout to 180 seconds")
intended to increase the timeout for mq_perf_tests from the default
kselftest limit of 45 seconds to 180 seconds.

Unfortunately, the file storing this information was incorrectly named
`setting` instead of `settings`, causing the kselftest runner not to
pick up the limit and keep using the default 45 seconds limit.

Fix this by renaming it to `settings` to ensure that the kselftest
runner uses the increased timeout of 180 seconds for this test.

e468e5e6ab selftests: mptcp: more stable simult_flows tests
commit 8c09412e58 upstream.

By default, the netem qdisc can keep up to 1000 packets under its belly
to deal with the configured rate and delay. The simult flows test-case
simulates very low speed links, to avoid problems due to slow CPUs and
the TCP stack tend to transmit at a slightly higher rate than the
(virtual) link constraints.

All the above causes a relatively large amount of packets being enqueued
in the netem qdiscs - the longer the transfer, the longer the queue -
producing increasingly high TCP RTT samples and consequently increasingly
larger receive buffer size due to DRS.

When the receive buffer size becomes considerably larger than the needed
size, the tests results can flake, i.e. because minimal inaccuracy in the
pacing rate can lead to a single subflow usage towards the end of the
connection for a considerable amount of data.

Address the issue explicitly setting netem limits suitable for the
configured link speeds and unflake all the affected tests.

0d23763532 libperf build: Always place libperf includes first
[ Upstream commit 8c5b40678c ]

When building tools/perf the CFLAGS can contain a directory for the
installed headers.

As the headers may be being installed while building libperf.a this can
cause headers to be partially installed and found in the include path
while building an object file for libperf.a.

The installed header may reference other installed headers that are
missing given the partial nature of the install and then the build fails
with a missing header file.

Avoid this by ensuring the libperf source headers are always first in

When using EXTRA_CFLAGS, for example "EXTRA_CFLAGS=-DREFCNT_CHECKING=1",

condition is required, just += appends to any existing CFLAGS and also
appends or doesn't append EXTRA_CFLAGS if they are or aren't set.

It's not clear why DEBUG=1 is required for -g in Perf when in libperf
it's always on, but I don't think we need to change that behavior now

f53bef1d9f selftests: forwarding: vxlan_bridge_1d: fix test failure with br_netfilter enabled
[ Upstream commit 02cb2e6bac ]

The test generates VXLAN traffic using mausezahn, where the encapsulated
inner IPv4 packet contains a zero IP header checksum. After VXLAN
decapsulation, such packets do not pass sanity checks in br_netfilter
and are dropped, which causes the test to fail.

Fix this by calculating and setting a valid IPv4 header checksum for the
encapsulated packet generated by mausezahn, so that the packet is accepted
by br_netfilter. Fixed by using the payload_template_calc_checksum() /
payload_template_expand_checksum() helpers that are only available

As explained in [1], iproute2 started rejecting tc-police burst sizes

Fix by reducing the burst size so that the test will pass with both new

7a8761f28f libbpf: Fix OOB read in btf_dump_get_bitfield_value
[ Upstream commit 5714ca8cba ]

When dumping bitfield data, btf_dump_get_bitfield_value() reads data
based on the underlying type's size (t->size). However, it does not
verify that the provided data buffer (data_sz) is large enough to
contain these bytes.

If btf_dump__dump_type_data() is called with a buffer smaller than
the type's size, this leads to an out-of-bounds read. This was
confirmed by AddressSanitizer in the linked issue.

Fix this by ensuring we do not read past the provided data_sz limit.

It looks like test_vxlan_under_vrf.sh is always failing to verify the
connectivity test during the ping between the two simulated VMs.

This is due to the fact that veth-hv in each VM should have a distinct
MAC address.

Fix by setting a unique MAC address on each simulated VM interface.

Without this fix:

 $ sudo ./tools/testing/selftests/net/test_vxlan_under_vrf.sh
 Checking HV connectivity [ OK ]
 Check VM connectivity through VXLAN (underlay in the default VRF) [FAIL]

With this fix applied:

 $ sudo ./tools/testing/selftests/net/test_vxlan_under_vrf.sh
 Checking HV connectivity [ OK ]
 Check VM connectivity through VXLAN (underlay in the default VRF) [ OK ]
 Check VM connectivity through VXLAN (underlay in a VRF) [FAIL]

NOTE: the connectivity test with the underlay VRF is still failing; it
seems that ARP requests are blocked at the simulated hypervisor level,
probably due to some missing ARP forwarding rules. This requires more
investigation (in the meantime we may consider to set that test as
expected failure - XFAIL).

04e5abccf5 tools/testing/nvdimm: Use per-DIMM device handle
commit f59b701b46 upstream.

KASAN reports a global-out-of-bounds access when running these nfit
tests: clear.sh, pmem-errors.sh, pfn-meta-errors.sh, btt-errors.sh,
daxdev-errors.sh, and inject-error.sh.

[] BUG: KASAN: global-out-of-bounds in nfit_test_ctl+0x769f/0x7840 [nfit_test]
[] Read of size 4 at addr ffffffffc03ea01c by task ndctl/1215
[] The buggy address belongs to the variable:
[] handle+0x1c/0x1df4 [nfit_test]

nfit_test_search_spa() uses handle[nvdimm->id] to retrieve a device
handle and triggers a KASAN error when it reads past the end of the
handle array. It should not be indexing the handle array at all.

The correct device handle is stored in per-DIMM test data. Each DIMM
has a struct nfit_mem that embeds a struct acpi_nfit_memdev that
describes the NFIT device handle. Use that device handle here.

76fc288ce1 selftests/bpf: Improve reliability of test_perf_branches_no_hw()
[ Upstream commit ae24fc8a16 ]

Currently, test_perf_branches_no_hw() relies on the busy loop within
test_perf_branches_common() being slow enough to allow at least one
perf event sample tick to occur before starting to tear down the
backing perf event BPF program. With a relatively small fixed
iteration count of 1,000,000, this is not guaranteed on modern fast
CPUs, resulting in the test run to subsequently fail with the
following:

On a modern CPU (i.e. one with a 3.5 GHz clock rate), executing 1
million increments of a volatile integer can take significantly less
than 1 millisecond. If the spin loop and detachment of the perf event
BPF program elapses before the first 1 ms sampling interval elapses,
the perf event will never end up firing. Fix this by bumping the loop
iteration counter a little within test_perf_branches_common(), along
with ensuring adding another loop termination condition which is
directly influenced by the backing perf event BPF program
executing. Notably, a concious decision was made to not adjust the
sample_freq value as that is just not a reliable way to go about
fixing the problem. It effectively still leaves the race window open.

1d2e267f43 selftests/bpf: skip test_perf_branches_hw() on unsupported platforms
[ Upstream commit 27746aaf1b ]

Gracefully skip the test_perf_branches_hw subtest on platforms that
do not support LBR or require specialized perf event attributes
to enable branch sampling.

For example, AMD's Milan (Zen 3) supports BRS rather than traditional
LBR. This requires specific configurations (attr.type = PERF_TYPE_RAW,
attr.config = RETIRED_TAKEN_BRANCH_INSTRUCTIONS) that differ from the
generic setup used within this test. Notably, it also probably doesn't
hold much value to special case perf event configurations for selected
micro architectures.

f93b75779d selftests/bpf: Fix failure paths in send_signal test
[ Upstream commit c133390398 ]

When test_send_signal_kern__open_and_load() fails parent closes the
pipe which cases ASSERT_EQ(read(pipe_p2c...)) to fail, but child
continues and enters infinite loop, while parent is stuck in wait(NULL).
Other error paths have similar issue, so kill the child before waiting on it.

The bug was discovered while compiling all of selftests with -O1 instead of -O2
which caused progs/test_send_signal_kern.c to fail to load.

3b7841a783 libbpf: Fix invalid return address register in s390
commit 7244eb6693 upstream.

There is currently an invalid register mapping in the s390 return
address register. As the manual[1] states, the return address can be
found at r14. In bpf_tracing.h, the s390 registers were named
gprs(general purpose registers). This commit fixes the problem by
correcting the mistyped mapping.

aadc10434c selftests/bpf: Don't rely on preserving volatile in PT_REGS macros in loop3
commit 70bc793382 upstream.

PT_REGS*() macro on some architectures force-cast struct pt_regs to
other types (user_pt_regs, etc) and might drop volatile modifiers, if any.
Volatile isn't really required as pt_regs value isn't supposed to change
during the BPF program run, so this is correct behavior.

But progs/loop3.c relies on that volatile modifier to ensure that loop
is preserved. Fix loop3.c by declaring i and sum variables as volatile
instead. It preserves the loop and makes the test pass on all
architectures (including s390x which is currently broken).
