libfs: Add helper to choose dentry operations at mount-time
In preparation to drop the similar helper that sets d_op at lookup time, add a version to set the right d_op filesystem-wide, through sb->s_d_op. The operations structures are shared across filesystems supporting fscrypt and/or casefolding, therefore we can keep it in common libfs code. fscrypt: Drop d_revalidate once the key is added
When a key is added, existing directory dentries in the DCACHE_NOKEY_NAME form are moved by the VFS to the plaintext version. But, since they have the DCACHE_OP_REVALIDATE flag set, revalidation will be done at each lookup only to return immediately, since plaintext dentries can't go stale until eviction. This patch optimizes this case, by dropping the flag once the nokey_name dentry becomes plain-text. Note that non-directory dentries are not moved this way, so they won't be affected. Of course, this can only be done if fscrypt is the only thing requiring revalidation for a dentry. For this reason, we only disable d_revalidate if the .d_revalidate hook is fscrypt_d_revalidate itself. It is safe to do it here because when moving the dentry to the plain-text version, we are holding the d_lock. We might race with a concurrent RCU lookup but this is harmless because, at worst, we will get an extra d_revalidate on the keyed dentry, which will still find the dentry to be valid. Finally, now that we do more than just clear the DCACHE_NOKEY_NAME in fscrypt_handle_d_move, skip it entirely for plaintext dentries, to avoid extra costs. fscrypt: Drop d_revalidate for valid dentries during lookup
Unencrypted and encrypted-dentries where the key is available don't need to be revalidated by fscrypt, since they don't go stale from under VFS and the key cannot be removed for the encrypted case without evicting the dentry. Disable their d_revalidate hook on the first lookup, to avoid repeated revalidation later. This is done in preparation to always configuring d_op through sb->s_d_op. The only part detail is that, since the filesystem might have other features that require revalidation, we only apply this optimization if the d_revalidate handler is fscrypt_d_revalidate itself. Finally, we need to clean the dentry->flags even for unencrypted dentries, so the ->d_lock might be acquired even for them. In order to avoid doing it for filesystems that don't care about fscrypt at all, we peek ->d_flags without the lock at first, and only acquire it if we actually need to write the flag. fscrypt: Factor out a helper to configure the lookup dentry
Both fscrypt_prepare_lookup_partial and fscrypt_prepare_lookup will set DCACHE_NOKEY_NAME for dentries when the key is not available. Extract out a helper to set this flag in a single place, in preparation to also add the optimization that will disable ->d_revalidate if possible. pwm: Changes for v6.8-rc1
This contains a bunch of cleanups and simplifications across the board, as well as a number of small fixes. Perhaps the most notable change here is the addition of an API that allows PWMs to be used in atomic contexts, which is useful when time- critical operations are involved, such as using a PWM to generate IR signals. Finally, I have decided to step down as PWM subsystem maintainer. Due to other responsibilities I have lately not been able to find the time that the subsystem deserves and Uwe, who has been helping out a lot for the past few years and has many things planned for the future, has kindly volunteered to take over. I have no doubt that he will be a suitable replacement. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQJNBAABCAA3FiEEiOrDCAFJzPfAjcif3SOs138+s6EFAmWhYQAZHHRoaWVycnku cmVkaW5nQGdtYWlsLmNvbQAKCRDdI6zXfz6zobK8EACtzJX+AeoTkN2S671A7QoG IGl9mrFhvrqN/6syigAIU8ZGOgb5uScZDH58PeTXH/oGEMn+bhQ9MK7JyWF5BUzF I8p6CqaVjG66LsfWz1m8AEAl/0N2Sc2032fWQSJB0o8qgYH0ZRBKc1j371Zm2DgD HT78pZJDSnyCnltPKjbDLShRfBwGINspmbihZKFa6yxrPbvADixCTo19b9Pk8XGa S9k2R/9S/QKPxvB+3DiZAHFstwoTn2p+1IBsg+hp/jLniw8XidZp2Rq0RJuwTjqO jVQDnOFOqNBa3VQccvNe23rDaKUkrmYwk+zzuFF27URam2Gp9wHZ8Y86WPSO5TA9 ftNsoeW++R25PBsOVZFGMU9r9aI9XI1tNyVuv2blNc0yr1fNSRzwjcELzLzG2myp gHgdayJofnvlKM7JV5ZDY6BDPwTP9jfDRdZOqKKNUeB8e9IiQD9JtAV9P+EL/5Hl C+7mh5Xb17bVlczWHqNkTd89Omp+Eu2z5BMfJyiQWQ2lzZpxOkBwB0nrlPshZpPi hz5IhsGjREkEfNV2qz/YDEyaj+CAYO8toitFGt5HeAYTftuG4WD49rHE5VQ8nhwg P9XpWNFHK2EtpU3/BRuupWHZRVd7MU4kMx4WQvWZGOFEqc9DYaC29ynk6sK0ryaC ba8U4gpBS66d3wNvVpkN3A== =pIh8 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'pwm/for-6.8-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/thierry.reding/linux-pwm Pull pwm updates from Thierry Reding: "This contains a bunch of cleanups and simplifications across the board, as well as a number of small fixes. firewire updates for 6.8
This update includes the series of changes related to device attributes, as well as slight code refactoring. Some old devices are recognized to have legacy layout of configuration ROM. They have an inconvenience that FireWire subsystem adds no attributes for vendor information to corresponding devices. The main purpose of this update is to rectify the inconvenience. We have a slight concern about regression. The update changes the value of modalias for the unit devices by populating its model field, which was previously left as zero in the case. I've assessed the potential impact of this change and anticipate it to have minimal concern for both the kernel and user lands. The change is enough acceptable. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iHUEABYIAB0WIQQE66IEYNDXNBPeGKSsLtaWM8LwEwUCZZ57GAAKCRCsLtaWM8Lw EwPxAP41CGFkA3nDew4v6DDdKbudx7+JaTSZcinqssnu5SYmoQD8DERryjpTCeLH pCz0xVjPcmPMI6dXb4vkZCVL2gZzcgU= =5cnb -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'firewire-updates-6.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ieee1394/linux1394 Pull firewire updates from Takashi Sakamoto: "This includes the series of changes related to device attributes, as well as slight code refactoring. gpio updates for v6.8
Core GPIOLIB:
- protect the global list of GPIO devices with a read-write semaphore as
it is rarely modified but can be traversed by multiple readers at once
- remove GPIO devices from the global list when they are *unregistered*
and not when they are *released* (which only happens when the last
reference is dropped) as this may lead to a successful lookup of an
unregistered device
- remove the unnecessary "extra_checks" switch
- rename functions that are called with a lock taken
- remove duplicate includes
Character device handling:
- use locking guards to reduce the code size
- allocate the big linereq structure using the more suitable kvzalloc()
- redulce the size of critical sections
- improve documentation
- move the debounce_period_us field out of struct gpio_desc
New drivers:
- Nuvoton NPCM SGPIO driver for BMC NPCM7xx/NPCM8xx
- Realtek DHC (Digital Home Center) SoC GPIO driver
Driver improvements:
- replace gpiochip_is_requested() with a safer alternative in the form of
gpiochip_dup_line_label() as the former returns a pointer to a string that
can be deleted
- implement the dbg_show() callback in gpio-sim
- improve the coding style for local variables by removing unnecessary tabs
- use generic device properties instead of OF variants in gpio-mmio
- use the preferred coding style for __free() in gpio-mockup
- reuse PM ops from the gpio-tangier in gpio-elkhartlake
- rework PM and use cleanup helpers in gpio-tangier
- fix the EIC configuration in gpio-pmic-eic-sprd
- remove the unneeded call to platform_set_drvdata() in gpio-sifive
- use generic GPIO helpers for driver callbacks in gpio-dwapb
- add clock support on certain pins of gpio-ixp4xx
- don't use the core-specific DEBUG_GPIO switch in drivers
- kerneldoc improvements
DT bindings:
- add bindings for the new Realtek and Nuvoton devices
- allow gpio-ranges in gpio-dwapb
- support GPIO hogs in gpio-rockchip
- describe the label property in gpio-zynqmp-modepin
Other:
- header cleanups
- forward declarations cleanups

at once
- remove GPIO devices from the global list when they are
*unregistered* and not when they are *released* (which only happens
when the last reference is dropped) as this may lead to a
successful lookup of an unregistered device
- remove the unnecessary "extra_checks" switch
- rename functions that are called with a lock taken
- remove duplicate includes
Character device handling:
- use locking guards to reduce the code size
- allocate the big linereq structure using the more suitable
kvzalloc()
- redulce the size of critical sections
- improve documentation
- move the debounce_period_us field out of struct gpio_desc
New drivers:
- Nuvoton NPCM SGPIO driver for BMC NPCM7xx/NPCM8xx
- Realtek DHC (Digital Home Center) SoC GPIO driver
Driver improvements:
- replace gpiochip_is_requested() with a safer alternative in the
form of gpiochip_dup_line_label() as the former returns a pointer
to a string that can be deleted
- implement the dbg_show() callback in gpio-sim
- improve the coding style for local variables by removing
unnecessary tabs
- use generic device properties instead of OF variants in gpio-mmio
- use the preferred coding style for __free() in gpio-mockup
- reuse PM ops from the gpio-tangier in gpio-elkhartlake
- rework PM and use cleanup helpers in gpio-tangier
- fix the EIC configuration in gpio-pmic-eic-sprd
- remove the unneeded call to platform_set_drvdata() in gpio-sifive
- use generic GPIO helpers for driver callbacks in gpio-dwapb
- add clock support on certain pins of gpio-ixp4xx
- don't use the core-specific DEBUG_GPIO switch in drivers
- kerneldoc improvements
DT bindings:
- add bindings for the new Realtek and Nuvoton devices
- allow gpio-ranges in gpio-dwapb
- support GPIO hogs in gpio-rockchip
- describe the label property in gpio-zynqmp-modepin
Other:
- header cleanups
- forward declarations cleanups"

sound updates for 6.8-rc1
It was a clam development cycle. There were an ALSA core extension
for subformat PCM bits and a few ASoC core changes to support N:M
mappings, while the most of remaining changes are driver-specific.
Core:
- API extensions for properly limiting PCM format bits via subformat
- Enhanced support for N:M CPU:CODEC mappings in the core and in
audio-graph-card2
ASoC:
- Lots of SOF updates: fallback support to older IPC versions,
notification on control changes with IPC4.
Also supports for ACPI parse for the ES83xx driver that reduces
quirks.
- Device tree support for describing parts of the card which can be
active over suspend (for very low power playback or wake word use
cases)
- Support for more AMD and Intel systems, NXP i.MX8m MICFIL, Qualcomm
SM8250, SM8550, SM8650 and X1E80100
- Drop of Freescale MPC8610 code that is no longer supported
HD-audio:
- More CS35L41 codec extensions for Dell, HP and Lenovo models
- TAS2781 codec extensions for Lenovo and co
- New PCM subformat supports
Others:
- More enhancement for Scarlett2 USB mixer support
- Various kselftest fixes

Pull drm updates from Dave Airlie:
"This contains two major new drivers:
- imagination is a first driver for Imagination Technologies devices,
it only covers very specific devices, but there is hope to grow it
- xe is a reboot of the i915 GPU (shares display) side using a more
upstream focused development model, and trying to maximise code
sharing. It's not enabled for any hw by default, and will hopefully
get switched on for Intel's Lunarlake.
This also drops a bunch of the old UMS ioctls. It's been dead long
enough.
amdgpu has a bunch of new color management code that is being used in
the Steam Deck.
amdgpu also has a new ACPI WBRF interaction to help avoid radio
interference.
Otherwise it's the usual lots of changes in lots of places.

video/sticore: Remove info field from STI struct

video/sticore: Store ROM device in STI struct
Store the ROM's parent device in each STI struct, so we can associate the STI framebuffer with a device. The new field will eventually replace the fbdev subsystem's info field, which the function fb_is_primary_device() currently requires to detect the firmware's output. By using the device instead of the framebuffer info, a later patch can generalize the helper for use in non-fbdev code. fbdev: amba-clcd: Delete the old CLCD driver
We have managed to ascertain that all users of the old FBDEV
code that are out of tree are now gone.
The new DRM driver can be found in drivers/gpu/drm/pl111/.
The remaining out of tree user was the ARM FVP emulation
platform, running Android. Thanks to changes in Android
versions 13 and 14, Android can now use the DRM driver when
being emulated under FVP. Some final patches are being put
in place to make it fully featured.
This is essentially a revert of the partial revert in

f2fs update for 6.8-rc1
In this series, we've some progress to support Zoned block device regarding to
the power-cut recovery flow and enabling checkpoint=disable feature which is
essential for Android OTA. Other than that, some patches touched sysfs entries
and tracepoints which are minor, while several bug fixes on error handlers and
compression flows are good to improve the overall stability.
Enhancement:
- enable checkpoint=disable for zoned block device
- sysfs entries such as discard status, discard_io_aware, dir_level
- tracepoints such as f2fs_vm_page_mkwrite(), f2fs_rename(), f2fs_new_inode()
- use shared inode lock during f2fs_fiemap() and f2fs_seek_block()
Bug fix:
- address some power-cut recovery issues on zoned block device
- handle errors and logics on do_garbage_collect(), f2fs_reserve_new_block(),
f2fs_move_file_range(), f2fs_recover_xattr_data()
- don't set FI_PREALLOCATED_ALL for partial write
- fix to update iostat correctly in f2fs_filemap_fault()
- fix to wait on block writeback for post_read case
- fix to tag gcing flag on page during block migration
- restrict max filesize for 16K f2fs
- fix to avoid dirent corruption
- explicitly null-terminate the xattr list
There are also several clean-up patches to remove dead codes and better
readability.

Pull f2fs update from Jaegeuk Kim:
"In this series, we've some progress to support Zoned block device
regarding to the power-cut recovery flow and enabling
checkpoint=disable feature which is essential for Android OTA.
Other than that, some patches touched sysfs entries and tracepoints
which are minor, while several bug fixes on error handlers and
compression flows are good to improve the overall stability.
Enhancements:
- enable checkpoint=disable for zoned block device
- sysfs entries such as discard status, discard_io_aware, dir_level
- tracepoints such as f2fs_vm_page_mkwrite(), f2fs_rename(),
f2fs_new_inode()
- use shared inode lock during f2fs_fiemap() and f2fs_seek_block()
Bug fixes:
- address some power-cut recovery issues on zoned block device
- handle errors and logics on do_garbage_collect(),
f2fs_reserve_new_block(), f2fs_move_file_range(),
f2fs_recover_xattr_data()
- don't set FI_PREALLOCATED_ALL for partial write
- fix to update iostat correctly in f2fs_filemap_fault()
- fix to wait on block writeback for post_read case
- fix to tag gcing flag on page during block migration
- restrict max filesize for 16K f2fs
- fix to avoid dirent corruption
- explicitly null-terminate the xattr list
There are also several clean-up patches to remove dead codes and
better readability"

SoC: driver updates for 6.8
A new drivers/cache/ subsystem is added to contain drivers for abstracting
cache flush methods on riscv and potentially others, as this is needed for
handling non-coherent DMA but several SoCs require nonstandard hardware
methods for it.
op-tee gains support for asynchronous notification with FF-A, as well
as support for a system thread for executing in secure world.
The tee, reset, bus, memory and scmi subsystems have a couple of minor
updates.
Platform specific soc driver changes include:
- Samsung Exynos gains driver support for Google GS101 (Tensor G1)
across multiple subsystems
- Qualcomm Snapdragon gains support for SM8650 and X1E along with
added features for some other SoCs
- Mediatek adds support for "Smart Voltage Scaling" on MT8186 and MT8195,
and driver support for MT8188 along with some code refactoring.
- Microchip Polarfire FPGA support for "Auto Update" of the FPGA bitstream
- Apple M1 mailbox driver is rewritten into a SoC driver
- minor updates on amlogic, mvebu, ti, zynq, imx, renesas and hisilicon

SoC: DT changes for 6.8
There is one new SoC for each 32-bit Arm and 64-bit RISC-V, but both
the Rockchips rv1109 and Sopgho CV1812H are just minor variations of
already supported chips.
The other six new SoCs are all part of existing arm64 families, but
are somewhat more interesting:
- Samsung ExynosAutov920 is an automotive chip, and the first one
we support based on the Cortex-A78AE core with lockstep mode.
- Google gs101 (Tensor G1) is the chip used in a number of Pixel phones,
and is grouped with Samsung Exynos here since it is based on the same
SoC design, sharing most of its IP blocks with that series.
- MediaTek MT8188 is a new chip used for mid-range tablets and Chromebooks,
using two Cortex-A78 cores where the older MT8195 had four of them.

"There is one new SoC for each 32-bit Arm and 64-bit RISC-V, but both
the Rockchips rv1109 and Sopgho CV1812H are just minor variations of
already supported chips.

are somewhat more interesting:
- Samsung ExynosAutov920 is an automotive chip, and the first one we
support based on the Cortex-A78AE core with lockstep mode.
- Google gs101 (Tensor G1) is the chip used in a number of Pixel

on the same SoC design, sharing most of its IP blocks with that
series.

Networking changes for 6.8.
Core & protocols
----------------
- Analyze and reorganize core networking structs (socks, netdev,
netns, mibs) to optimize cacheline consumption and set up
build time warnings to safeguard against future header changes.
This improves TCP performances with many concurrent connections
up to 40%.
- Add page-pool netlink-based introspection, exposing the
memory usage and recycling stats. This helps indentify
bad PP users and possible leaks.
- Refine TCP/DCCP source port selection to no longer favor even
source port at connect() time when IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE is set.
This lowers the time taken by connect() for hosts having
many active connections to the same destination.
- Refactor the TCP bind conflict code, shrinking related socket
structs.
- Refactor TCP SYN-Cookie handling, as a preparation step to
allow arbitrary SYN-Cookie processing via eBPF.
- Tune optmem_max for 0-copy usage, increasing the default value
to 128KB and namespecifying it.
- Allow coalescing for cloned skbs coming from page pools, improving
RX performances with some common configurations.
- Reduce extension header parsing overhead at GRO time.
- Add bridge MDB bulk deletion support, allowing user-space to
request the deletion of matching entries.
- Reorder nftables struct members, to keep data accessed by the
datapath first.
- Introduce TC block ports tracking and use. This allows supporting
multicast-like behavior at the TC layer.
- Remove UAPI support for retired TC qdiscs (dsmark, CBQ and ATM) and
classifiers (RSVP and tcindex).
- More data-race annotations.
- Extend the diag interface to dump TCP bound-only sockets.
- Conditional notification of events for TC qdisc class and actions.
- Support for WPAN dynamic associations with nearby devices, to form
a sub-network using a specific PAN ID.
- Implement SMCv2.1 virtual ISM device support.
- Add support for Batman-avd mulicast packet type.
BPF
---
- Tons of verifier improvements:
- BPF register bounds logic and range support along with a large
test suite
- log improvements
- complete precision tracking support for register spills
- track aligned STACK_ZERO cases as imprecise spilled registers. It
improves the verifier "instructions processed" metric from single
digit to 50-60% for some programs
- support for user's global BPF subprogram arguments with few
commonly requested annotations for a better developer experience
- support tracking of BPF_JNE which helps cases when the compiler
transforms (unsigned) "a > 0" into "if a == 0 goto xxx" and the
like
- several fixes
- Add initial TX metadata implementation for AF_XDP with support in
mlx5 and stmmac drivers. Two types of offloads are supported right
now, that is, TX timestamp and TX checksum offload.
- Fix kCFI bugs in BPF all forms of indirect calls from BPF into
kernel and from kernel into BPF work with CFI enabled. This allows
BPF to work with CONFIG_FINEIBT=y.
- Change BPF verifier logic to validate global subprograms lazily
instead of unconditionally before the main program, so they can be
guarded using BPF CO-RE techniques.
- Support uid/gid options when mounting bpffs.
- Add a new kfunc which acquires the associated cgroup of a task
within a specific cgroup v1 hierarchy where the latter is identified
by its id.
- Extend verifier to allow bpf_refcount_acquire() of a map value field
obtained via direct load which is a use-case needed in sched_ext.
- Add BPF link_info support for uprobe multi link along with bpftool
integration for the latter.
- Support for VLAN tag in XDP hints.
- Remove deprecated bpfilter kernel leftovers given the project
is developed in user-space (https://github.com/facebook/bpfilter).
Misc
----
- Support for parellel TC self-tests execution.
- Increase MPTCP self-tests coverage.
- Updated the bridge documentation, including several so-far
undocumented features.
- Convert all the net self-tests to run in unique netns, to
avoid random failures due to conflict and allow concurrent
runs.
- Add TCP-AO self-tests.
- Add kunit tests for both cfg80211 and mac80211.
- Autogenerate Netlink families documentation from YAML spec.
- Add yml-gen support for fixed headers and recursive nests, the
tool can now generate user-space code for all genetlink families
for which we have specs.
- A bunch of additional module descriptions fixes.
- Catch incorrect freeing of pages belonging to a page pool.
Driver API
----------
- Rust abstractions for network PHY drivers; do not cover yet the
full C API, but already allow implementing functional PHY drivers
in rust.
- Introduce queue and NAPI support in the netdev Netlink interface,
allowing complete access to the device <> NAPIs <> queues
relationship.
- Introduce notifications filtering for devlink to allow control
application scale to thousands of instances.
- Improve PHY validation, requesting rate matching information for
each ethtool link mode supported by both the PHY and host.
- Add support for ethtool symmetric-xor RSS hash.
- ACPI based Wifi band RFI (WBRF) mitigation feature for the AMD
platform.
- Expose pin fractional frequency offset value over new DPLL generic
netlink attribute.
- Convert older drivers to platform remove callback returning void.
- Add support for PHY package MMD read/write.

asm-generic cleanups for 6.8
A series from Baoquan He cleans up the asm-generic/io.h to remove the ioremap_uc() definition from everything except x86, which still needs it for pre-PAT systems. This series notably contains a patch from Jiaxun Yang that converts MIPS to use asm-generic/io.h like every other architecture does, enabling future cleanups. Some of my own patches fix -Wmissing-prototype warnings in architecture specific code across several architectures. This is now needed as the warning is enabled by default. There are still some remaining warnings in minor platforms, but the series should catch most of the widely used ones make them more consistent with one another. David McKay fixes a bug in __generic_cmpxchg_local() when this is used on 64-bit architectures. This could currently only affect parisc64 and sparc64. Additional cleanups address from Linus Walleij, Uwe Kleine-König, Thomas Huth, and Kefeng Wang help reduce unnecessary inconsistencies between architectures. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEiK/NIGsWEZVxh/FrYKtH/8kJUicFAmWeak8ACgkQYKtH/8kJ UidSiQ/+LL1WTO9d3Zx5HI0GGGjaIYpYs6jUNSf9Y5GPQiOrvjfEWj7CU11/4vxl GlQRpRyncYm8Eiz0Qu+aNxZFiiMah8Uful75yfbX8P1L4EPTbAYNDjkyNJrTjIAK jPK4sl8awIrapOeFUz++PsEj22R/4Is4f0mo+CqoCkL5RKlHe5oFdXzcwjmds4yK CvU6Ldn+M7FZ3EItMdjXaB3D3HS9uictFiO5JByZY8p+IcqgNRI/iHNnZIMsltJ+ XjDi0DG+x4jCj6teElSchw7AofE4OcNSP3xbR1PLKv6+xBLGYaAGZhNuPTz88eV/ Gj0loDQrrR5McGUfDBRHK9zN2Jd0O/FKnfh9kLOt1FLFyGPvC78Q/2HkpVCjbBr2 Pr1aqhLDHA+tGNSsThsV8RUa8/tiEnxAki43tfBFS3SEKhtQsTm2g1z4miwbE3p0 BJIrSgTqrP/SBq7a9z/thPrkzdZcNuA9FUETTbaMeUlJS51n1V9E5A1t7sOG7jaI vV/gbuR6FjvD49mTyQiOSCt3V4ygRqgN1Q+C4QM8WLqq2keUq0AhGodquv8F78in J3x2j2r27lHY7jKf8B0dua/JXAsF20u8qD6yDQ9ymkjt/MWhGXBgK0jpT7RTIuMS e2jmTywUVD4UohAcx3inkOojUhIJ5KDB0I4Pzv4zWcHNbyFNKcY= =4VQl -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-6.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic cleanups from Arnd Bergmann: "A series from Baoquan He cleans up the asm-generic/io.h to remove the ioremap_uc() definition from everything except x86, which still needs it for pre-PAT systems. sysctl-6.8-rc1
To help make the move of sysctls out of kernel/sysctl.c not incur a size
penalty sysctl has been changed to allow us to not require the sentinel, the
final empty element on the sysctl array. Joel Granados has been doing all this
work. On the v6.6 kernel we got the major infrastructure changes required to
support this. For v6.7 we had all arch/ and drivers/ modified to remove
the sentinel. For v6.8-rc1 we get a few more updates for fs/ directory only.
The kernel/ directory is left but we'll save that for v6.9-rc1 as those patches
are still being reviewed. After that we then can expect also the removal of the
no longer needed check for procname == NULL.
Let us recap the purpose of this work:
- this helps reduce the overall build time size of the kernel and run time
memory consumed by the kernel by about ~64 bytes per array
- the extra 64-byte penalty is no longer inncurred now when we move sysctls
out from kernel/sysctl.c to their own files
Thomas Weißschuh also sent a few cleanups, for v6.9-rc1 we expect to see further
work by Thomas Weißschuh with the constificatin of the struct ctl_table.
Due to Joel Granados's work, and to help bring in new blood, I have suggested
for him to become a maintainer and he's accepted. So for v6.9-rc1 I look forward
to seeing him sent you a pull request for further sysctl changes. This also
removes Iurii Zaikin as a maintainer as he has moved on to other projects and
has had no time to help at all.

header cleanups for 6.8
The goal is to get sched.h down to a type only header, so the main thing happening in this patchset is splitting out various _types.h headers and dependency fixups, as well as moving some things out of sched.h to better locations. This is prep work for the memory allocation profiling patchset which adds new sched.h interdepencencies. Testing - it's been in -next, and fixes from pretty much all architectures have percolated in - nothing major. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEKnAFLkS8Qha+jvQrE6szbY3KbnYFAmWfBwwACgkQE6szbY3K bnZPwBAAmuRojXaeWxi01IPIOehSGDe68vw44PR9glEMZvxdnZuPOdvE4/+245/L bRKU2WBCjBUokUbV9msIShwRkFTZAmEMPNfPAAsFMA+VXeDYHKB+ZRdwTggNAQ+I SG6fZgh5m0HsewCDxU8oqVHkjVq4fXn0cy+aL6xLEd9gu67GoBzX2pDieS2Kvy6j jnyoKTxFwb+LTQgph0P4EIpq5I2umAsdLwdSR8EJ+8e9NiNvMo1pI00Lx/ntAnFZ JftWUJcMy3TQ5u1GkyfQN9y/yThX1bZK5GvmHS9SJ2Dkacaus5d+xaKCHtRuFS1I 7C6b8PsNgRczUMumBXus44HdlNfNs1yU3lvVxFvBIPE1qC9pYRHrkWIXXIocXLLC oxTEJ6B2G3BQZVQgLIA4fOaxMVhmvKffi/aEZLi9vN9VVosd1a6XNKI6KbyRnXFp GSs9qDqszhn5I3GYNlDNQTc/8UsRlhPFgS6nS0By6QnvxtGi9QkU2tBRBsXvqwCy cLoCYIhc2tvugHvld70dz26umiJ4rnmxGlobStNoigDvIKAIUt1UmIdr1so8P8eH xehnL9ZcOX6xnANDL0AqMFFHV6I58CJynhFdUoXfVQf/DWLGX48mpi9LVNsYBzsI CAwVOAQ0UjGrpdWmJ9ueY/ABYqg9vRjzaDEXQ+MhAYO55CLaVsg= =3tyT -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'header_cleanup-2024-01-10' of https://evilpiepirate.org/git/bcachefs Pull header cleanups from Kent Overstreet: "The goal is to get sched.h down to a type only header, so the main thing happening in this patchset is splitting out various _types.h headers and dependency fixups, as well as moving some things out of sched.h to better locations. NFSD 6.8 Release Notes
The bulk of the patches for this release are clean-ups and minor bug fixes. There is one significant revert to mention: support for RDMA Read operations in the server's RPC-over-RDMA transport implementation has been fixed so it waits for Read completion in a way that avoids tying up an nfsd thread. This prevents a possible DoS vector if an RPC-over-RDMA client should become unresponsive during RDMA Read operations. As always I am grateful to NFSD contributors, reviewers, and testers. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEEKLLlsBKG3yQ88j7+M2qzM29mf5cFAmWdW34ACgkQM2qzM29m f5fKmw/+PcjoNDWR55kTmOo8j0h4HF8rhunvP2C50svnnsX63y1WKkLaxyAFN/Hl UFucJDQBjJvwi+PEbGOXcjkizuG5mhRBFvFIYDJYGWsE1s7B/v3E/Servvt1wSek UjoTjknYrqH6R3YfA8zBaWRJUXwvVQW3Bzo4mShrQK7He9/7nBHdUe0aWbAA9oW3 QgzKH/FzqCS03MvuxQv74KgBcl3diIrDaj041A3CtSnXzSKqwc3LaUAd5B4BL+oq GnxpV1rtZla50M4Ntddi+vSjUvHWZySQ1GEJj7rKLTwpGXkxM2NuMkGx676WR4Iv sYDX0fsica2elKbqJem8pk68qi6XEdZVAdoOHdgNJRClmYHby8xkrL/TYKiQZf42 IN9FogoVSZ+vSdI158Weim9+0Jqf+ffIh57ZtOyQQQAGZkdhB6GhcbdHJhQ9eOgB LAiAL7bsoWvDmBh5m9KnBmQYGpZoDUa6AT0bIvGD2O4/MdpHBkyT8Xwt+210nPOK mpBtxe5O8cUcg7A5/TwnVRg5jKp4CF8VWh2R8sGDhcYV8UfRthB38h4rHNhv4vxt l6ZUgmtTxrs1rCeh6aoiWTKXeQmI8meWlcet7cxw/axAsaTXkYPi5mslxF9f4O8u nQ8q7LuZQy2CKZO/t98STwx7s9OJcDOwcy51rnKK85TlCwnxFWg= =mIKg -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'nfsd-6.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cel/linux Pull nfsd updates from Chuck Lever: "The bulk of the patches for this release are clean-ups and minor bug fixes. Merge tag 'afs-fix-rotation-20240105' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-fs
Pull afs updates from David Howells:
"The majority of the patches are aimed at fixing and improving the AFS
filesystem's rotation over server IP addresses, but there are also
some fixes from Oleg Nesterov for the use of read_seqbegin_or_lock().
- Fix fileserver probe handling so that the next round of probes
doesn't break ongoing server/address rotation by clearing all the
probe result tracking. This could occasionally cause the rotation
algorithm to drop straight through, give a 'successful' result
without actually emitting any RPC calls, leaving the reply buffer
in an undefined state.
Instead, detach the probe results into a separate struct and
allocate a new one each time we start probing and update the
pointer to it. Probes are also sent in order of address preference
to try and improve the chance that the preferred one will complete
first.
- Fix server rotation so that it uses configurable address
preferences across on the probes that have completed so far than
ranking them by RTT as the latter doesn't necessarily give the best
route. The preference list can be altered by writing into
/proc/net/afs/addr_prefs.
- Fix the handling of Read-Only (and Backup) volume callbacks as
there is one per volume, not one per file, so if someone performs a
command that, say, offlines the volume but doesn't change it, when
it comes back online we don't spam the server with a status fetch
for every vnode we're using. Instead, check the Creation timestamp
in the VolSync record when prompted by a callback break.
- Handle volume regression (ie. a RW volume being restored from a
backup) by scrubbing all cache data for that volume. This is
detected from the VolSync creation timestamp.
- Adjust abort handling and abort -> error mapping to match better
with what other AFS clients do.
- Fix offline and busy volume state handling as they only apply to
individual server instances and not entire volumes and the rotation
algorithm should go and look at other servers if available. Also
make it sleep briefly before each retry if all the volume instances
are unavailable"

Pull btrfs updates from David Sterba:
"There are no exciting changes for users, it's been mostly API
conversions and some fixes or refactoring.
The mount API conversion is a base for future improvements that would
come with VFS. Metadata processing has been converted to folios, not
yet enabling the large folios but it's one patch away once everything
gets tested enough.
Core changes:
- convert extent buffers to folios:
- direct API conversion where possible
- performance can drop by a few percent on metadata heavy
workloads, the folio sizes are not constant and the calculations
add up in the item helpers
- both regular and subpage modes
- data cannot be converted yet, we need to port that to iomap and
there are some other generic changes required
- convert mount to the new API, should not be user visible:
- options deprecated long time ago have been removed: inode_cache,
recovery
- the new logic that splits mount to two phases slightly changes
timing of device scanning for multi-device filesystems
- LSM options will now work (like for selinux)
- convert delayed nodes radix tree to xarray, preserving the
preload-like logic that still allows to allocate with GFP_NOFS
- more validation of sysfs value of scrub_speed_max
- refactor chunk map structure, reduce size and improve performance
- extent map refactoring, smaller data structures, improved
performance
- reduce size of struct extent_io_tree, embedded in several
structures
- temporary pages used for compression are cached and attached to a
shrinker, this may slightly improve performance
- in zoned mode, remove redirty extent buffer tracking, zeros are
written in case an out-of-order is detected and proper data are
written to the actual write pointer
- cleanups, refactoring, error message improvements, updated tests
- verify and update branch name or tag
- remove unwanted text"

a set of helper functions which allow devices (internally a
struct kunit_device) to be created and managed by KUnit.
These devices will be automatically unregistered on
test exit. These helpers can either use a user-provided
struct device_driver, or have one automatically created and
managed by KUnit. In both cases, the device lives on a new
kunit_bus.
- changes to switch drm/tests to use kunit devices
- several fixes and enhancements to attribute feature
- changes to reorganize deferred action function introducing
KUNIT_DEFINE_ACTION_WRAPPER
- new feature adds ability to run tests after boot using debugfs
- fixes and enhancements to string-stream-test:
- parse ERR_PTR in string_stream_destroy()
- unchecked dereference in bug fix in debugfs_print_results()
- handling errors from alloc_string_stream()
- NULL-dereference bug fix in kunit_init_suite()

Merge tag 'pm-6.8-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm
Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"These add support for new processors (Sierra Forest, Grand Ridge and
Meteor Lake) to the intel_idle driver, make intel_pstate run on
Emerald Rapids without HWP support and adjust it to utilize EPP values
supplied by the platform firmware, fix issues, clean up code and
improve documentation.
The most significant fix addresses deadlocks in the core system-wide
resume code that occur if async_schedule_dev() attempts to run its
argument function synchronously (for example, due to a memory
allocation failure). It rearranges the code in question which may
increase the system resume time in some cases, but this basically is a
removal of a premature optimization. That optimization will be added
back later, but properly this time.
Specifics:
- Add support for the Sierra Forest, Grand Ridge and Meteorlake SoCs
to the intel_idle cpuidle driver (Artem Bityutskiy, Zhang Rui)
- Do not enable interrupts when entering idle in the haltpoll cpuidle
driver (Borislav Petkov)
