drm/xe/uapi: Use hint for guc to set GT frequency
Allow user to provide a low latency hint. When set, KMD sends a hint
to GuC which results in special handling for that process. SLPC will
ramp the GT frequency aggressively every time it switches to this
process.
We need to enable the use of SLPC Compute strategy during init, but
it will apply only to processes that set this bit during process
creation.
Improvement with this approach as below:
Before,
:~$ NEOReadDebugKeys=1 EnableDirectSubmission=0 clpeak --kernel-latency
Platform: Intel(R) OpenCL Graphics
Device: Intel(R) Graphics [0xe20b]
Driver version : 24.52.0 (Linux x64)
Compute units : 160
Clock frequency : 2850 MHz
Kernel launch latency : 283.16 us
After,

drm/xe/uapi: Add a device query to get EU stall sampling information
User space can get the EU stall data record size, EU stall capabilities,
EU stall sampling rates, and per XeCore buffer size with query IOCTL
DRM_IOCTL_XE_DEVICE_QUERY with .query set to DRM_XE_DEVICE_QUERY_EU_STALL.
A struct drm_xe_query_eu_stall will be returned to the user space along
with an array of supported sampling rates sorted in the fastest sampling
rate first order. sampling_rates in struct drm_xe_query_eu_stall will
point to the array of sampling rates.
Any capabilities in EU stall sampling as of this patch are considered
as base capabilities. New capability bits will be added for any new
functionality added later.
v12: Rename has_eu_stall_sampling_support() to
xe_eu_stall_supported_on_platform() and move it to header file.
v11: Check if EU stall sampling is supported on the platform.
v10: Change comments and variable names as per feedback
v9: Move reserved fields above num_sampling_rates in
struct drm_xe_query_eu_stall.
v7: Change sampling_rates from a pointer to flexible array.
v6: Include EU stall sampling rates information and
per XeCore buffer size in the query information.

drm/xe/uapi: Introduce API for EU stall sampling
A new hardware feature first introduced in PVC gives capability to
periodically sample EU stall state and record counts for different stall
reasons, on a per IP basis, aggregate across all EUs in a subslice and
record the samples in a buffer in each subslice. Eventually, the aggregated
data is written out to a buffer in the memory. This feature is also
supported in XE2 and later architecture GPUs.
Use an existing IOCTL - DRM_IOCTL_XE_OBSERVATION as the interface into the
driver from the user space to do initial setup and obtain a file descriptor
for the EU stall data stream. Input parameter to the IOCTL is a struct
drm_xe_observation_param in which observation_type should be set to
DRM_XE_OBSERVATION_TYPE_EU_STALL, observation_op should be
DRM_XE_OBSERVATION_OP_STREAM_OPEN and param should point to a chain of
drm_xe_ext_set_property structures in which each structure has a pair of
property and value. The EU stall sampling input properties are defined in
drm_xe_eu_stall_property_id enum.
With the file descriptor obtained from DRM_IOCTL_XE_OBSERVATION, user space
can enable and disable EU stall sampling with the IOCTLs:
DRM_XE_OBSERVATION_IOCTL_ENABLE and DRM_XE_OBSERVATION_IOCTL_DISABLE.
User space can also call poll() to check for availability of data in the
buffer. The data can be read with read(). Finally, the file descriptor
can be closed with close().
v11: Changed a couple of variables in struct eu_stall_open_properties
from unsigned int to int.
v10: Use extension number while parsing chain of extensions.
Remove function description for static functions.
Move code around as per review feedback.
v9: Changed some u32 to unsigned int.
Moved some code around as per review feedback from v8.
v8: Used div_u64 instead of / to fix 32-bit build issue.
Changed copyright year in xe_eu_stall.c/h to 2025.
v7: Renamed input property DRM_XE_EU_STALL_PROP_EVENT_REPORT_COUNT
to DRM_XE_EU_STALL_PROP_WAIT_NUM_REPORTS to be consistent with
OA. Renamed the corresponding internal variables.
Fixed some commit messages based on review feedback.
v6: Change the input sampling rate to GPU cycles instead of
GPU cycles multiplier.

on kernel built with MAX_SKB_FRAGS=45, where SKB_WITH_OVERHEAD(1024)
is smaller than GRO_MAX_HEAD.
Such built additionally contains the revert of the single page frag cache
so that napi_get_frags() ends up using the page frag allocator, triggering
the splat.
Note that the underlying issue is independent from the mentioned
revert; address it ensuring that the small head cache will fit either TCP
and GRO allocation and updating napi_alloc_skb() and __netdev_alloc_skb()
to select kmalloc() usage for any allocation fitting such cache.

tcp: drop secpath at the same time as we currently drop dst
Xiumei reported hitting the WARN in xfrm6_tunnel_net_exit while
running tests that boil down to:
- create a pair of netns
- run a basic TCP test over ipcomp6
- delete the pair of netns
The xfrm_state found on spi_byaddr was not deleted at the time we
delete the netns, because we still have a reference on it. This
lingering reference comes from a secpath (which holds a ref on the
xfrm_state), which is still attached to an skb. This skb is not
leaked, it ends up on sk_receive_queue and then gets defer-free'd by
skb_attempt_defer_free.
The problem happens when we defer freeing an skb (push it on one CPU's
defer_list), and don't flush that list before the netns is deleted. In
that case, we still have a reference on the xfrm_state that we don't
expect at this point.
We already drop the skb's dst in the TCP receive path when it's no
longer needed, so let's also drop the secpath. At this point,
tcp_filter has already called into the LSM hooks that may require the
secpath, so it should not be needed anymore. However, in some of those
places, the MPTCP extension has just been attached to the skb, so we
cannot simply drop all extensions.

drm/ast: cursor: Move format conversion to shared helper
User-space cursor-image data is encoded in ARBG8888, while hardware supports ARGB4444. Implement the format conversion as part of the format-helper framework, so that other drivers can benefit. This allows to respect the damage area of the cursor update. In previous code, all cursor image data had to be converted on each update. Now, only the changed areas require an update. The hardware image is always updated completely, as it is required for the checksum update. The format-conversion helper still contains the old implementation's optimization of writing 2 output pixels at the same time. As a prep, let's rename and export net_free() to net_passive_dec() and add net_passive_inc(). Pull vfs fixes from Christian Brauner:
"It was reported that the acct(2) system call can be used to trigger a
NULL deref in cases where it is set to write to a file that triggers
an internal lookup.
This can e.g., happen when pointing acct(2) to /sys/power/resume. At
the point the where the write to this file happens the calling task
has already exited and called exit_fs() but an internal lookup might
be triggered through lookup_bdev(). This may trigger a NULL-deref when
accessing current->fs.
Reorganize the code so that the the final write happens from the
workqueue but with the caller's credentials. This preserves the
(strange) permission model and has almost no regression risk.
Also block access to kernel internal filesystems as well as procfs and
sysfs in the first place.
Various fixes for netfslib:
- Fix a number of read-retry hangs, including:
- Incorrect getting/putting of references on subreqs as we retry
them
- Failure to track whether a last old subrequest in a retried set
is superfluous
- Inconsistency in the usage of wait queues used for subrequests
(ie. using clear_and_wake_up_bit() whilst waiting on a private
waitqueue)
- Add stats counters for retries and publish in /proc/fs/netfs/stats.
This is not a fix per se, but is useful in debugging and shouldn't
otherwise change the operation of the code
- Fix the ordering of queuing subrequests with respect to setting the
request flag that says we've now queued them all"

Driver core api addition for 6.14-rc3
Here is a driver core new api for 6.14-rc3 that is being added to allow platform devices from stop being abused. It adds a new "faux_device" structure and bus and api to allow almost a straight or simpler conversion from platform devices that were not really a platform device. It also comes with a binding for rust, with an example driver in rust showing how it's used. I'm adding this now so that the patches that convert the different drivers and subsystems can all start flowing into linux-next now through their different development trees, in time for 6.15-rc1. We have a number that are already reviewed and tested, but adding those conversions now doesn't seem right. Otherwise, the presence of the kernel image could prevent such a memory region from being unplugged at runtime if it was 'cold plugged', i.e., already plugged in at boot time (and exposed via the EFI memory map) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iHUEABYIAB0WIQQQm/3uucuRGn1Dmh0wbglWLn0tXAUCZ69vHgAKCRAwbglWLn0t XM7ZAQCQXtg7TQjRHHpkc868dR+TV+aE4uzb8IMj4F4fPAL1FQD/f6fBE84O+sVV joQn6uawVA7vN/mwvfWq9JQ43zvtnQY= =DQZ0 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'efi-fixes-for-v6.14-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/efi/efi Pull EFI fixes from Ard Biesheuvel: "Take the newly introduced EFI_MEMORY_HOT_PLUGGABLE memory attribute into account when placing the kernel image in memory at boot. virtio_snd.h: clarify that controls depends on VIRTIO_SND_F_CTLS
As defined in the specification, the `controls` field in the configuration space is only valid/present if VIRTIO_SND_F_CTLS is negotiated. From https://docs.oasis-open.org/virtio/virtio/v1.3/virtio-v1.3.html: 5.14.4 Device Configuration Layout ... controls (driver-read-only) indicates a total number of all available control elements if VIRTIO_SND_F_CTLS has been negotiated. Let's use the same style used in virtio_blk.h to clarify this and to avoid confusion as happened in QEMU (see link). drm/atomic: Let drivers decide which planes to async flip
Currently, DRM atomic uAPI allows only primary planes to be flipped asynchronously. However, each driver might be able to perform async flips in other different plane types. To enable drivers to set their own restrictions on which type of plane they can or cannot flip, use the existing atomic_async_check() from struct drm_plane_helper_funcs to enhance this flexibility, thus allowing different plane types to be able to do async flips as well. Create a new parameter for the atomic_async_check(), `bool flip`. This parameter is used to distinguish when this function is being called from a plane update from a full page flip. In order to prevent regressions and such, we keep the current policy: we skip the driver check for the primary plane, because it is always allowed to do async flips on it. drm: Introduce device wedged event
Introduce device wedged event, which notifies userspace of 'wedged'
(hanged/unusable) state of the DRM device through a uevent. This is
useful especially in cases where the device is no longer operating as
expected and has become unrecoverable from driver context. Purpose of
this implementation is to provide drivers a generic way to recover the
device with the help of userspace intervention without taking any drastic
measures (like resetting or re-enumerating the full bus, on which the
underlying physical device is sitting) in the driver.
A 'wedged' device is basically a device that is declared dead by the
driver after exhausting all possible attempts to recover it from driver
context. The uevent is the notification that is sent to userspace along
with a hint about what could possibly be attempted to recover the device
from userspace and bring it back to usable state. Different drivers may
have different ideas of a 'wedged' device depending on hardware
implementation of the underlying physical device, and hence the vendor
agnostic nature of the event. It is up to the drivers to decide when they
see the need for device recovery and how they want to recover from the
available methods.
Driver prerequisites
--------------------
The driver, before opting for recovery, needs to make sure that the
'wedged' device doesn't harm the system as a whole by taking care of the
prerequisites. Necessary actions must include disabling DMA to system
memory as well as any communication channels with other devices. Further,
the driver must ensure that all dma_fences are signalled and any device
state that the core kernel might depend on is cleaned up. All existing
mmaps should be invalidated and page faults should be redirected to a
dummy page. Once the event is sent, the device must be kept in 'wedged'
state until the recovery is performed. New accesses to the device
(IOCTLs) should be rejected, preferably with an error code that resembles
the type of failure the device has encountered. This will signify the
reason for wedging, which can be reported to the application if needed.
Recovery
--------
Current implementation defines three recovery methods, out of which,
drivers can use any one, multiple or none. Method(s) of choice will be
sent in the uevent environment as ``WEDGED=<method1>[,..,<methodN>]`` in
order of less to more side-effects. If driver is unsure about recovery
or method is unknown (like soft/hard system reboot, firmware flashing,
physical device replacement or any other procedure which can't be
attempted on the fly), ``WEDGED=unknown`` will be sent instead.
Userspace consumers can parse this event and attempt recovery as per the
following expectations.
=============== ========================================
Recovery method Consumer expectations
=============== ========================================
none optional telemetry collection
rebind unbind + bind driver
bus-reset unbind + bus reset/re-enumeration + bind
unknown consumer policy
=============== ========================================
The only exception to this is ``WEDGED=none``, which signifies that the
device was temporarily 'wedged' at some point but was recovered from driver
context using device specific methods like reset. No explicit recovery is
expected from the consumer in this case, but it can still take additional
steps like gathering telemetry information (devcoredump, syslog). This is
useful because the first hang is usually the most critical one which can
result in consequential hangs or complete wedging.
Consumer prerequisites
----------------------
It is the responsibility of the consumer to make sure that the device or
its resources are not in use by any process before attempting recovery.
With IOCTLs erroring out, all device memory should be unmapped and file
descriptors should be closed to prevent leaks or undefined behaviour. The
idea here is to clear the device of all user context beforehand and set
the stage for a clean recovery.
Example
-------
Udev rule::
SUBSYSTEM=="drm", ENV{WEDGED}=="rebind", DEVPATH=="*/drm/card[0-9]",
RUN+="/path/to/rebind.sh $env{DEVPATH}"
Recovery script::
#!/bin/sh
DEVPATH=$(readlink -f /sys/$1/device)
DEVICE=$(basename $DEVPATH)
DRIVER=$(readlink -f $DEVPATH/driver)
echo -n $DEVICE > $DRIVER/unbind
echo -n $DEVICE > $DRIVER/bind
Customization
-------------
Although basic recovery is possible with a simple script, consumers can
define custom policies around recovery. For example, if the driver supports
multiple recovery methods, consumers can opt for the suitable one depending
on scenarios like repeat offences or vendor specific failures. Consumers
can also choose to have the device available for debugging or telemetry
collection and base their recovery decision on the findings. This is useful
especially when the driver is unsure about recovery or method is unknown.
