If ddc fails, presumably the i2c mux (and hopefully the signal
mux) are switched to the other GPU so don't fetch the edid from

commit bdfa7542d4 upstream.
During a GPU reset we need to get pending page flip cleared out
since the ring contents are gone and flip will never complete
on its own. This used to work until the mmio vs. CS flip race
detection came about. That piece of code is looking for a
specific surface address in the SURFLIVE register, but as
a flip to that address may never happen the check may never
pass. So we should just skip the SURFLIVE and flip counter
checks when the GPU gets reset.
intel_display_handle_reset() tries to effectively complete
the flip anyway by calling .update_primary_plane(). But that
may not satisfy the conditions of the mmio vs. CS race
detection since there's no guarantee that a modeset didn't
sneak in between the GPU reset and intel_display_handle_reset().
Such a modeset will not wait for pending flips due to the ongoing GPU
reset, and then the primary plane updates performed by
intel_display_handle_reset() will already use the new surface
address, and thus the surface address the flip is waiting for
might never appear in SURFLIVE. The result is that the flip
will never complete and attempts to perform further page flips
will fail with -EBUSY.
During the GPU reset intel_crtc_has_pending_flip() will return
false regardless, so the deadlock with a modeset vs. the error
work acquiring crtc->mutex was avoided. And the reset_counter
check in intel_crtc_has_pending_flip() actually made this bug
even less severe since it allowed normal modesets to go through
even though there's a pending flip.

Some radeon ASICs don't support all 64 address bits of MSIs despite
advertising support for 64-bit MSIs in their configuration space.
This breaks on systems such as IBM POWER7/8, where 64-bit MSIs can
be assigned with some of the high address bits set.
This makes use of the newly introduced "no_64bit_msi" flag in structure
pci_dev to allow the MSI allocation code to fallback to 32-bit MSIs
on those adapters.

Global GTT doesn't have pat_sel[2:0] so it always point to pat_sel = 000;
So the only way to avoid screen corruptions is setting PAT 0 to Uncached.
MOCS can still be used though. But if userspace is trusting PTE for
cache selection the safest thing to do is to let caches disabled.
BSpec: "For GGTT, there is NO pat_sel[2:0] from the entry,
so RTL will always use the value corresponding to pat_sel = 000"
- System agent ggtt writes (i.e. cpu gtt mmaps) already work before
this patch, i.e. the same uncached + snooping access like on gen6/7
seems to be in effect.
- So this just fixes blitter/render access. Again it looks like it's
not just uncached access, but uncached + snooping. So we can still
hold onto all our assumptions wrt cpu clflushing on LLC machines.

commit e300180f71 upstream.
The radeon driver uses placement range restrictions for several reasons,
in particular to make sure BOs in VRAM can be accessed by the CPU, e.g.
during a page fault.
Without this change, TTM could evict other BOs while trying to satisfy
the requested placement, even if the evicted BOs were outside of the
requested placement range. Doing so didn't free up any space in the
requested placement range, so the (potentially high) eviction cost was
incurred for no benefit.
Nominating for stable because radeon driver changes in 3.17 made this
much more noticeable than before.

Preparation for some runtime pm fixes. Currently we skip over fbcon
suspend/resume in the runtime path, which causes issues on resume if
fbcon tries to write to the framebuffer before the BAR subdev has
been resumed to restore the BAR1 VM setup.
As we might be woken up via a sysfs connector, we are unable to call
fb_set_suspend() in the resume path as it could make its way down to
a modeset and cause all sorts of locking hilarity.
To solve this, we'll just delay the fbcon resume to a workqueue.

Sometimes we seem to get utter garbage from DPCD reads. The resulting
buffer is filled with the same byte, and the operation completed without
errors. My HP ZR24w monitor seems particularly susceptible to this
problem once it's gone into a sleep mode.
The issue seems to happen only for the first AUX message that wakes the
sink up. But as the first AUX read we often do is the DPCD receiver
cap it does wreak a bit of havoc with subsequent link training etc. when
the receiver cap bw/lane/etc. information is garbage.
A sufficient workaround seems to be to perform a single byte dummy read
before reading the actual data. I suppose that just wakes up the sink
sufficiently and we can just throw away the returned data in case it's
crap. DP_DPCD_REV seems like a sufficiently safe location to read here.

Commit 20cde69402 ("x86, ia64: Move EFI_FB vga_default_device()
initialization to pci_vga_fixup()") moved boot video device detection from
efifb to x86 and ia64 pci/fixup.c.
For dual-GPU Apple computers above change represents a regression as code
in efifb did forcefully override vga_default_device while the merge did not
(vgaarb happens prior to PCI fixup).
To improve on initial device selection by vgaarb (it cannot know if PCI
device not behind bridges see/decode legacy VGA I/O or not), move the
screen_info based check from pci_video_fixup() to vgaarb's init function and
use it to refine/override decision taken while adding the individual PCI
VGA devices. This way PCI fixup has no reason to adjust vga_default_device
anymore but can depend on its value for flagging shadowed VBIOS.
This has the nice benefit of removing duplicated code but does introduce a
#if defined() block in vgaarb. Not all architectures have screen_info and
would cause compile to fail without it.

Some of the Thinkpads' firmware will issue a backlight change request
through i915 operation region unconditionally on AC plug/unplug, the
backlight level used is arbitrary and thus should be ignored. This is
handled by commit 0b9f7d93ca (ACPI / i915: ignore firmware requests
for backlight change). Then there is a Dell laptop whose vendor backlight
interface also makes use of operation region to change backlight level
and with the above commit, that interface no long works. The condition
used to ignore the backlight change request from firmware is thus
changed to: if the vendor backlight interface is not in use and the ACPI
backlight interface is broken, we ignore the requests; oterwise, we keep
processing them.

commit b440bde74f upstream.
Powering off a hot-pluggable device, e.g., with pci_set_power_state(D3cold),
normally generates a hot-remove event that unbinds the driver.
Some drivers expect to remain bound to a device even while they power it
off and back on again. This can be dangerous, because if the device is
removed or replaced while it is powered off, the driver doesn't know that
anything changed. But some drivers accept that risk.
Add pci_ignore_hotplug() for use by drivers that know their device cannot
be removed. Using pci_ignore_hotplug() tells the PCI core that hot-plug
events for the device should be ignored.
The radeon and nouveau drivers use this to switch between a low-power,
integrated GPU and a higher-power, higher-performance discrete GPU. They
power off the unused GPU, but they want to remain bound to it.
This is a reimplementation of f244d8b623 ("ACPIPHP / radeon / nouveau:
Fix VGA switcheroo problem related to hotplug") but extends it to work with
both acpiphp and pciehp.
This fixes a problem where systems with dual GPUs using the radeon drivers
become unusable, freezing every few seconds (see bugzillas below). The
resume of the radeon device may also fail, e.g.,
