aa99a76b40 erofs: handle corrupted images whose decompressed size less than it'd be
As Lasse pointed out, "Looking at fs/erofs/decompress.c,
the return value from LZ4_decompress_safe_partial is only
checked for negative value to catch errors. ... So if
I understood it correctly, if there is bad data whose
uncompressed size is much less than it should be, it can
leave part of the output buffer untouched and expose the
previous data as the file content. "

Let's fix it now.

af1038abbd erofs: use LZ4_decompress_safe() for full decoding
As Lasse pointed out, "EROFS uses LZ4_decompress_safe_partial
for both partial and full blocks. Thus when it is decoding a
full block, it doesn't know if the LZ4 decoder actually decoded
all the input. The real uncompressed size could be bigger than
the value stored in the file system metadata.

Using LZ4_decompress_safe instead of _safe_partial when
decompressing a full block would help to detect errors."

So it's reasonable to use _safe in case of potential corrupted
images and it might have some speed gain as well although
I didn't observe much difference.

Note that legacy compressor (< 5.3, no LZ4_0PADDING) could
encode extra data in a pcluster, which is excluded as well.

64094a0441 erofs: convert workstn to XArray
XArray has friendly APIs and it will replace the old radix
tree in the near future.

This convert makes use of __xa_cmpxchg when inserting on
a just inserted item by other thread. In detail, instead
of totally looking up again as what we did for the old
radix tree, it will try to legitimize the current in-tree
item in the XArray therefore more effective.

In addition, naming is rather a challenge for non-English
speaker like me. The basic idea of workstn is to provide
a runtime sparse array with items arranged in the physical
block number order. Such items (was called workgroup) can be
used to record compress clusters or for later new features.

However, both workgroup and workstn seem not good names from
whatever point of view, so I'd like to rename them as pslot
and managed_pslots to stand for physical slots. This patch
handles the second as a part of the radix tree convert.

248aa2645a dm integrity: use dm_bio_record and dm_bio_restore
In cases where dec_in_flight() has to requeue the integrity_bio_wait
work to transfer the rest of the data, the bio's __bi_remaining might
already have been decremented to 0, e.g.: if bio passed to underlying
data device was split via blk_queue_split().

Use dm_bio_{record,restore} rather than effectively open-coding them in

e7a04894c7 btrfs: fix RAID direct I/O reads with alternate csums
btrfs_lookup_and_bind_dio_csum() does pointer arithmetic which assumes

88694cff49 kbuild: generate autoksyms.h early
When doing a cold build, autoksyms.h starts empty, and is updated late
in the build process to have visibility over the symbols used by in-tree
drivers. But since the symbol whitelist is known upfront, it can be used
to pre-populate autoksyms.h and maximize the amount of code that can be
compiled to its final state in a single pass, hence reducing build time.

Do this by using gen_autoksyms.sh to initialize autoksyms.h instead of

1518c633df kbuild: allow symbol whitelisting with TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS
CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS currently removes all unused exported symbols
from ksymtab. This works really well when using in-tree drivers, but
cannot be used in its current form if some of them are out-of-tree.

Indeed, even if the list of symbols required by out-of-tree drivers is
known at compile time, the only solution today to guarantee these don't
get trimmed is to set CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS=n. This not only wastes
space, but also makes it difficult to control the ABI usable by vendor
modules in distribution kernels such as Android. Being able to control
the kernel ABI surface is particularly useful to ship a unique Generic
Kernel Image (GKI) for all vendors, which is a first step in the
direction of getting all vendors to contribute their code upstream.

As such, attempt to improve the situation by enabling users to specify a
symbol 'whitelist' at compile time. Any symbol specified in this
whitelist will be kept exported when CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS is set,
even if it has no in-tree user. The whitelist is defined as a simple
text file, listing symbols, one per line.

2a86f66121 kbuild: use KBUILD_DEFCONFIG as the fallback for DEFCONFIG_LIST
Most of the Kconfig commands (except defconfig and all*config) read
the .config file as a base set of CONFIG options.

When it does not exist, the files in DEFCONFIG_LIST are searched in
this order and loaded if found.

I do not see much sense in the last two lines in DEFCONFIG_LIST.

[1] ARCH_DEFCONFIG

The entry for DEFCONFIG_LIST is guarded by 'depends on !UML'. So, the
ARCH_DEFCONFIG definition in arch/x86/um/Kconfig is meaningless.

arch/{sh,sparc,x86}/Kconfig define ARCH_DEFCONFIG depending on 32 or
64 bit variant symbols. This is a little bit strange; ARCH_DEFCONFIG
should be a fixed string because the base config file is loaded before
the symbol evaluation stage.

Using KBUILD_DEFCONFIG makes more sense because it is fixed before
Kconfig is invoked. Fortunately, arch/{sh,sparc,x86}/Makefile define it
in the same way, and it works as expected. Hence, replace ARCH_DEFCONFIG
with "arch/$(SRCARCH)/configs/$(KBUILD_DEFCONFIG)".

[2] arch/$(ARCH)/defconfig

This file path is no longer valid. The defconfig files are always located
in the arch configs/ directories.

  $ find arch -name defconfig | sort
  arch/alpha/configs/defconfig
  arch/arm64/configs/defconfig
  arch/csky/configs/defconfig
  arch/nds32/configs/defconfig
  arch/riscv/configs/defconfig
  arch/s390/configs/defconfig
  arch/unicore32/configs/defconfig

The path arch/*/configs/defconfig is already covered by
"arch/$(SRCARCH)/configs/$(KBUILD_DEFCONFIG)". So, this file path is
not necessary.

I moved the default KBUILD_DEFCONFIG to the top Makefile. Otherwise,
the 7 architectures listed above would end up with endless loop of
syncconfig.

f0df68d5ba efi: Add embedded peripheral firmware support
Just like with PCI options ROMs, which we save in the setup_efi_pci*
functions from arch/x86/boot/compressed/eboot.c, the EFI code / ROM itself
sometimes may contain data which is useful/necessary for peripheral drivers
to have access to.

Specifically the EFI code may contain an embedded copy of firmware which
needs to be (re)loaded into the peripheral. Normally such firmware would be
part of linux-firmware, but in some cases this is not feasible, for 2
reasons:

1) The firmware is customized for a specific use-case of the chipset / use
with a specific hardware model, so we cannot have a single firmware file
for the chipset. E.g. touchscreen controller firmwares are compiled
specifically for the hardware model they are used with, as they are
calibrated for a specific model digitizer.

2) Despite repeated attempts we have failed to get permission to
redistribute the firmware. This is especially a problem with customized
firmwares, these get created by the chip vendor for a specific ODM and the
copyright may partially belong with the ODM, so the chip vendor cannot
give a blanket permission to distribute these.

This commit adds support for finding peripheral firmware embedded in the
EFI code and makes the found firmware available through the new
efi_get_embedded_fw() function.

Support for loading these firmwares through the standard firmware loading
mechanism is added in a follow-up commit in this patch-series.

Note we check the EFI_BOOT_SERVICES_CODE for embedded firmware near the end
of start_kernel(), just before calling rest_init(), this is on purpose
because the typical EFI_BOOT_SERVICES_CODE memory-segment is too large for
early_memremap(), so the check must be done after mm_init(). This relies
on EFI_BOOT_SERVICES_CODE not being free-ed until efi_free_boot_services()
is called, which means that this will only work on x86 for now.

3745488e9d altera-stapl: altera_get_note: prevent write beyond end of 'key'
altera_get_note is called from altera_init, where key is kzalloc(33).

When the allocation functions are annotated to allow the compiler to see

In file included from drivers/misc/altera-stapl/altera.c:14:0:

    ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That refers to this code in altera_get_note:

    if (key != NULL)
            strlcpy(key, &p[note_strings +
                            get_unaligned_be32(

                    length);

The error triggers because the length of 'key' is 33, but the copy
uses length supplied as the 'length' parameter, which is always
256. Split the size parameter into key_len and val_len, and use the
appropriate length depending on what is being copied.

2669b8b0c7 binder: prevent UAF for binderfs devices
On binder_release(), binder_defer_work(proc, BINDER_DEFERRED_RELEASE) is
called which punts the actual cleanup operation to a workqueue. At some
point, binder_deferred_func() will be called which will end up calling
binder_deferred_release() which will retrieve and cleanup the
binder_context attach to this struct binder_proc.

If we trace back where this binder_context is attached to binder_proc we
see that it is set in binder_open() and is taken from the struct
binder_device it is associated with. This obviously assumes that the
struct binder_device that context is attached to is _never_ freed. While
that might be true for devtmpfs binder devices it is most certainly
wrong for binderfs binder devices.

So, assume binder_open() is called on a binderfs binder devices. We now
stash away the struct binder_context associated with that struct
binder_devices:
	proc->context = &binder_dev->context;
	/* binderfs stashes devices in i_private */
	if (is_binderfs_device(nodp)) {
		binder_dev = nodp->i_private;
		info = nodp->i_sb->s_fs_info;
		binder_binderfs_dir_entry_proc = info->proc_log_dir;
	} else {
	.
	.
	.
	proc->context = &binder_dev->context;

Now let's assume that the binderfs instance for that binder devices is
shutdown via umount() and/or the mount namespace associated with it goes
away. As long as there is still an fd open for that binderfs binder
device things are fine. But let's assume we now close the last fd for
that binderfs binder device. Now binder_release() is called and punts to
the workqueue. Assume that the workqueue has quite a bit of stuff to do
and doesn't get to cleaning up the struct binder_proc and the associated
struct binder_context with it for that binderfs binder device right
away. In the meantime, the VFS is killing the super block and is
ultimately calling sb->evict_inode() which means it will call
binderfs_evict_inode() which does:

static void binderfs_evict_inode(struct inode *inode)
{
	struct binder_device *device = inode->i_private;
	struct binderfs_info *info = BINDERFS_I(inode);

	clear_inode(inode);

	if (!S_ISCHR(inode->i_mode) || !device)
		return;

	mutex_lock(&binderfs_minors_mutex);
	--info->device_count;
	ida_free(&binderfs_minors, device->miscdev.minor);
	mutex_unlock(&binderfs_minors_mutex);

	kfree(device->context.name);
	kfree(device);
}

thereby freeing the struct binder_device including struct
binder_context.

Now the workqueue finally has time to get around to cleaning up struct
binder_proc and is now trying to access the associate struct
binder_context. Since it's already freed it will OOPs.

Fix this by holding an additional reference to the inode that is only
released once the workqueue is done cleaning up struct binder_proc. This
is an easy alternative to introducing separate refcounting on struct
binder_device which we can always do later if it becomes necessary.

This is an alternative fix to 51d8a7eca6 ("binder: prevent UAF read in
print_binder_transaction_log_entry()").
