a5a6cebdd0 PM / core: Clear the direct_complete flag on errors
commit 69e445ab8b upstream.

If __device_suspend() runs asynchronously (in which case the device
passed to it is in dpm_suspended_list at that point) and it returns
early on an error or pending wakeup, and the power.direct_complete
flag has been set for the device already, the subsequent
device_resume() will be confused by that and it will call
pm_runtime_enable() incorrectly, as runtime PM has not been
disabled for the device by __device_suspend().

To avoid that, clear power.direct_complete if __device_suspend()
is not going to disable runtime PM for the device before returning.

fb24b672da driver core: Don't ignore class_dir_create_and_add() failure.
commit 84d0c27d62 upstream.

syzbot is hitting WARN() at kernfs_add_one() [1].
This is because kernfs_create_link() is confused by previous device_add()
call which continued without setting dev->kobj.parent field when
get_device_parent() failed by memory allocation fault injection.
Fix this by propagating the error from class_dir_create_and_add() to
the calllers of get_device_parent().

f3ba3c79f8 PM / wakeup: Only update last time for active wakeup sources
commit 2ef7c01c0c upstream.

When wakelock support was added, the wakeup_source_add() function
was updated to set the last_time value of the wakeup source. This
has the unintended side effect of producing confusing output from
pm_print_active_wakeup_sources() when a wakeup source is added
prior to a sleep that is blocked by a different wakeup source.

The function pm_print_active_wakeup_sources() will search for the
most recently active wakeup source when no active source is found.
If a wakeup source is added after a different wakeup source blocks
the system from going to sleep it may have a later last_time value
than the blocking source and be output as the last active wakeup
source even if it has never actually been active.

It looks to me like the change to wakeup_source_add() was made to
prevent the wakelock garbage collection from accidentally dropping
a wakelock during the narrow window between adding the wakelock to
the wakelock list in wakelock_lookup_add() and the activation of
the wakeup source in pm_wake_lock().

This commit changes the behavior so that only the last_time of the
wakeup source used by a wakelock is initialized prior to adding it
to the wakeup source list. This preserves the meaning of the
last_time value as the last time the wakeup source was active and
allows a wakeup source that has never been active to have a
last_time value of 0.

d7e412b847 regmap: Don't use format_val in regmap_bulk_read
commit 9ae27a8d1f upstream.

A bulk read can be implemented either through regmap_raw_read, or
by reading each register individually using regmap_read. Both
regmap_read and regmap_bulk_read should return values in native
endian. In the individual case the current implementation calls
format_val to put the data into the output array, which can cause
endian issues. The regmap_read will have already converted the data
into native endian, if the hosts endian differs from the device then
format_val will switch the endian back again.

Rather than using format_val simply use the code that is called if
there is no format_val function. This code supports all cases except
24-bit but there don't appear to be any users of regmap_bulk_read for
24-bit. Additionally, it would have to be a big endian host for the
old code to actually function correctly anyway.

d7fc5abb72 regmap: Support bulk reads for devices without raw formatting
commit d5b98eb124 upstream.

When doing a bulk read from a device which lacks raw I/O support we fall
back to doing register at a time reads but we still use the raw
formatters in order to render the data into the word size used by the
device (since bulk reads still operate on the device word size rather
than unsigned ints). This means that devices without raw formatting
such as those that provide reg_read() are not supported. Provide
handling for them by copying the values read into native endian values
of the appropriate size.

299147ddcb x86/speculation/l1tf: Add sysfs reporting for l1tf
commit 17dbca1193 upstream.

L1TF core kernel workarounds are cheap and normally always enabled, However
they still should be reported in sysfs if the system is vulnerable or
mitigated. Add the necessary CPU feature/bug bits.

- Extend the existing checks for Meltdowns to determine if the system is
  vulnerable. All CPUs which are not vulnerable to Meltdown are also not
  vulnerable to L1TF

- Check for 32bit non PAE and emit a warning as there is no practical way
  for mitigation due to the limited physical address bits

- If the system has more than MAX_PA/2 physical memory the invert page
  workarounds don't protect the system against the L1TF attack anymore,
  because an inverted physical address will also point to valid
  memory. Print a warning in this case and report that the system is
  vulnerable.

Add a function which returns the PFN limit for the L1TF mitigation, which
will be used in follow up patches for sanity and range checks.

2d76e7e2ec isa: Prevent NULL dereference in isa_bus driver callbacks
commit 5a244727f4 upstream.

The isa_driver structure for an isa_bus device is stored in the device
platform_data member of the respective device structure. This
platform_data member may be reset to NULL if isa_driver match callback
for the device fails, indicating a device unsupported by the ISA driver.

This patch fixes a possible NULL pointer dereference if one of the
isa_driver callbacks to attempted for an unsupported device. This error
should not occur in practice since ISA devices are typically manually
configured and loaded by the users, but we may as well prevent this
error from popping up for the 0day testers.

f7c9b17c00 PM / sleep: don't suspend parent when async child suspend_{noirq, late} fails
commit 6f75c3fd56 upstream.

Consider two devices, A and B, where B is a child of A, and B utilizes
asynchronous suspend (it does not matter whether A is sync or async). If
B fails to suspend_noirq() or suspend_late(), or is interrupted by a
wakeup (pm_wakeup_pending()), then it aborts and sets the async_error
variable. However, device A does not (immediately) check the async_error
variable; it may continue to run its own suspend_noirq()/suspend_late()
callback. This is bad.

We can resolve this problem by doing our error and wakeup checking
(particularly, for the async_error flag) after waiting for children to
suspend, instead of before. This also helps align the logic for the noirq and
late suspend cases with the logic in __device_suspend().

It's easy to observe this erroneous behavior by, for example, forcing a
device to sleep a bit in its suspend_noirq() (to ensure the parent is
waiting for the child to complete), then return an error, and watch the
parent suspend_noirq() still get called. (Or similarly, fake a wakeup
event at the right (or is it wrong?) time.)

 [<ffffffffa0033011>] hexium_init_module+0x11/0x1000 [hexium_gemini]
...

As can be (mostly) seen, driver_register causes this call sequence:
  -> bus_add_driver
    -> module_add_driver
      -> module_create_drivers_dir
The last one creates "drivers" directory in /sys/module/<...>. When
this is done in parallel, the directory is attempted to be created
twice at the same time.

This can be easily reproduced by loading mxb and hexium_gemini in
parallel:
while :; do
  modprobe mxb &
  modprobe hexium_gemini
  wait
  rmmod mxb hexium_gemini saa7146_vv saa7146
done

saa7146 calls pci_register_driver for both mxb and hexium_gemini,
which means /sys/module/saa7146/drivers is to be created for both of
them.

Fix this by a new mutex in module_create_drivers_dir which makes the
test-and-create "drivers" dir atomic.

I inverted the condition and removed 'return' to avoid multiple
unlocks or a goto.

ccac349834 PM / sleep: Handle failures in device_suspend_late() consistently
commit 3a17fb329d upstream.

Grygorii Strashko reports:

 The PM runtime will be left disabled for the device if its
 .suspend_late() callback fails and async suspend is not allowed
 for this device. In this case device will not be added in
 dpm_late_early_list and dpm_resume_early() will ignore this
 device, as result PM runtime will be disabled for it forever
 (side effect: after 8 subsequent failures for the same device
 the PM runtime will be reenabled due to disable_depth overflow).

To fix this problem, add devices to dpm_late_early_list regardless
of whether or not device_suspend_late() returns errors for them.

That will ensure failures in there to be handled consistently for
all devices regardless of their async suspend/resume status.

As pm_runtime_set_active() may fail because the device's parent isn't

f5117c4ccb firmware: actually return NULL on failed request_firmware_nowait()
commit 715780ae4b upstream.

The kerneldoc for request_firmware_nowait() says that it may call the
provided cont() callback with @fw == NULL, if the firmware request
fails. However, this is not the case when called with an empty string
(""). This case is short-circuited by the 'name[0] == '\0'' check
introduced in commit 471b095dfe ("firmware_class: make sure fw requests
contain a name"), so _request_firmware() never gets to set the fw to
NULL.

79d272766b drivers/base/memory.c: prohibit offlining of memory blocks with missing sections
commit 26bbe7ef6d upstream.

Commit bdee237c03 ("x86: mm: Use 2GB memory block size on large-memory
x86-64 systems") and 982792c782 ("x86, mm: probe memory block size for
generic x86 64bit") introduced large block sizes for x86. This made it
possible to have multiple sections per memory block where previously,
there was a only every one section per block.

Since blocks consist of contiguous ranges of section, there can be holes
in the blocks where sections are not present. If one attempts to
offline such a block, a crash occurs since the code is not designed to
deal with this.

This patch is a quick fix to gaurd against the crash by not allowing
blocks with non-present sections to be offlined.

9965eafeba drivercore: Fix unregistration path of platform devices
commit 7f5dcaf1fd upstream.

The unregister path of platform_device is broken. On registration, it
will register all resources with either a parent already set, or
type==IORESOURCE_{IO,MEM}. However, on unregister it will release
everything with type==IORESOURCE_{IO,MEM}, but ignore the others. There
are also cases where resources don't get registered in the first place,
like with devices created by of_platform_populate()*.

Fix the unregister path to be symmetrical with the register path by
checking the parent pointer instead of the type field to decide which
resources to unregister. This is safe because the upshot of the
registration path algorithm is that registered resources have a parent
pointer, and non-registered resources do not.

* It can be argued that of_platform_populate() should be registering
  it's resources, and they argument has some merit. However, there are
  quite a few platforms that end up broken if we try to do that due to
  overlapping resources in the device tree. Until that is fixed, we need
  to solve the immediate problem.

only now in 4.2-rc1.

Shuah Khan is trying to bisect what it is that causes this to trigger
more easily, but in the meantime let's just fix the bug since others are
hitting it too (at least Ingo reports having seen it as well).

5bfa73eeb0 regmap: Fix possible shift overflow in regmap_field_init()
commit 921cc29473 upstream.

The way the mask is generated in regmap_field_init() is wrong.
Indeed, a field initialized with msb = 31 and lsb = 0 provokes a shift
overflow while calculating the mask field.

On some 32 bits architectures, such as x86, the generated mask is 0,
instead of the expected 0xffffffff.

This patch uses GENMASK() to fix the problem, as this macro is already safe
regarding shift overflow.

1f78583b4d regmap: Fix regmap_bulk_read in BE mode
commit 15b8d2c41f upstream.

In big endian mode regmap_bulk_read gives incorrect data
for byte reads.

This is because memcpy of a single byte from an address
after full word read gives different results when
endianness differs. ie. we get little-end in LE and big-end in BE.

2f55b0b64d regmap: introduce regmap_name to fix syscon regmap trace events
commit c6b570d97c upstream.

This patch fixes a NULL pointer dereference when enabling regmap event
tracing in the presence of a syscon regmap, introduced by commit bdb0066df9
("mfd: syscon: Decouple syscon interface from platform devices").
That patch introduced syscon regmaps that have their dev field set to NULL.
The regmap trace events expect it to point to a valid struct device and feed
it to dev_name():

321000de04 driver core: Fix unbalanced device reference in drivers_probe
commit 0372ffb35d upstream.

bus_find_device_by_name() acquires a device reference which is never
released. This results in an object leak, which on older kernels
results in failure to release all resources of PCI devices. libvirt
uses drivers_probe to re-attach devices to the host after assignment
and is therefore a common trigger for this leak.

Example:

6ae35c9435 sysfs: driver core: Fix glue dir race condition by gdp_mutex
commit e4a60d1390 upstream.

There is a race condition when removing glue directory.
It can be reproduced in following test:

path 1: Add first child device
device_add()
    get_device_parent()
            /*find parent from glue_dirs.list*/
            list_for_each_entry(k, &dev->class->p->glue_dirs.list, entry)
                    if (k->parent == parent_kobj) {
                            kobj = kobject_get(k);
                            break;
                    }
            ....
            class_dir_create_and_add()

path2: Remove last child device under glue dir
device_del()
    cleanup_device_parent()
            cleanup_glue_dir()
                    kobject_put(glue_dir);

If path2 has been called cleanup_glue_dir(), but not
call kobject_put(glue_dir), the glue dir is still
in parent's kset list. Meanwhile, path1 find the glue
dir from the glue_dirs.list. Path2 may release glue dir
before path1 call kobject_get(). So kernel will report
the warning and bug_on.

This is a "classic" problem we have of a kref in a list
that can be found while the last instance could be removed
at the same time.

This patch reuse gdp_mutex to fix this race condition.

The following calltrace is captured in kernel 3.4, but
the latest kernel still has this bug.

228ed7285a PM / Sleep: fix async suspend_late/freeze_late error handling
commit 246ef76674 upstream.

If an asynchronous suspend_late or freeze_late callback fails
during the SUSPEND, FREEZE or QUIESCE phases, we don't propagate the
corresponding error correctly, in effect ignoring the error and
continuing the suspend-to-ram/hibernation. During suspend-to-ram this
could leave some devices without a valid saved context, leading to a
failure to reinitialize them during resume. During hibernation this
could leave some devices active interfeering with the creation /
restoration of the hibernation image. Also this could leave the
corresponding devices without a valid saved context and failure to
reinitialize them during resume.

    Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000026

(CCF clk_disable() has an IS_ERR_OR_NULL() check, while CCF clk_enable()
 only has a NULL check; pre-CCF implementations may behave differently)

While just checking for PCE_STATUS_ERROR would be sufficient, it doesn't
hurt to use the same state machine as is done for runtime PM, as this
makes the two versions more similar, and eligible for a future
consolidation.

b248aa29c6 firmware_class: make sure fw requests contain a name
commit 471b095dfe upstream.

An empty firmware request name will trigger warnings when building
device names. Make sure this is caught earlier and rejected.

The warning was visible via the test_firmware.ko module interface:

echo -ne "\x00" > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/test_firmware/trigger_request

a1773cfd11 regmap: fix possible ZERO_SIZE_PTR pointer dereferencing error.
commit d6b41cb060 upstream.

Since we cannot make sure the 'val_count' will always be none zero
here, and then if it equals to zero, the kmemdup() will return
ZERO_SIZE_PTR, which equals to ((void *)16).

So this patch fix this with just doing the zero check before calling
kmemdup().

07ab621703 regmap: fix NULL pointer dereference in _regmap_write/read
commit 5336be8416 upstream.

If LOG_DEVICE is defined and map->dev is NULL it will lead to NULL
pointer dereference. This patch fixes this issue by adding check for
dev->NULL in all such places in regmap.c

d188fcff2d regmap: debugfs: fix possbile NULL pointer dereference
commit 2c98e0c1cc upstream.

If 'map->dev' is NULL and there will lead dev_name() to be NULL pointer
dereference. So before dev_name(), we need to have check of the map->dev
pionter.

We also should make sure that the 'name' pointer shouldn't be NULL for
debugfs_create_dir(). So here using one default "dummy" debugfs name when
the 'name' pointer and 'map->dev' are both NULL.

ceb0e516b8 driver/base/node: remove unnecessary kfree of node struct from unregister_one_node
commit 33ead538f6 upstream.

Commit 92d585ef06 ("numa: fix NULL pointer access and memory
leak in unregister_one_node()") added kfree() of node struct in
unregister_one_node(). But node struct is freed by node_device_release()
which is called in unregister_node(). So by adding the kfree(),
node struct is freed two times.

While hot removing memory, the commit leads the following BUG_ON():
