57d83cda45 mtd: nand: davinci: Reinitialize the HW ECC engine in 4bit hwctl
[ Upstream commit f6d7c1b559 ]

This fixes subpage writes when using 4-bit HW ECC.

There has been numerous reports about ECC errors with devices using this
driver for a while. Also the 4-bit ECC has been reported as broken with
subpages in [1] and with 16 bits NANDs in the driver and in mach* board
files both in mainline and in the vendor BSPs.

What I saw with 4-bit ECC on a 16bits NAND (on an LCDK) which got me to
try reinitializing the ECC engine:
- R/W on whole pages properly generates/checks RS code
- try writing the 1st subpage only of a blank page, the subpage is well
written and the RS code properly generated, re-reading the same page
the HW detects some ECC error, reading the same page again no ECC
  error is detected

Note that the ECC engine is already reinitialized in the 1-bit case.

Tested on my LCDK with UBI+UBIFS using subpages.
This could potentially get rid of the issue workarounded in [1].

bd0e924c93 ubi: Make volume resize power cut aware
[ Upstream commit 4946784bd3 ]

When the volume resize operation shrinks a volume,
LEBs will be unmapped. Since unmapping will not erase these
LEBs immediately we have to wait for that operation to finish.
Otherwise in case of a power cut right after writing the new
volume table the UBI attach process can find more LEBs than the
volume table knows. This will render the UBI image unattachable.

Fix this issue by waiting for erase to complete and write the new
volume table afterward.

bdcbb05998 mtd: nand: fix bug writing 1 byte less than page size
[ Upstream commit 144f4c9839 ]

nand_do_write_ops() determines if it is writing a partial page with the
formula:
	part_pagewr = (column || writelen < (mtd->writesize - 1))

When 'writelen' is exactly 1 byte less than the NAND page size the formula
equates to zero, so the code doesn't process it as a partial write,
although it should.
As a consequence the function remains in the while(1) loop with 'writelen'
becoming 0xffffffff and iterating endlessly.

The bug may not be easy to reproduce in Linux since user space tools
usually force the padding or round-up the write size to a page-size
multiple.
This was discovered in U-Boot where the issue can be reproduced by
writing any size that is 1 byte less than a page-size multiple.
For example, on a NAND with 2K page (0x800):
	=> nand erase.part <partition>
	=> nand write $loadaddr <partition> 7ff

[Editor's note: the bug was added in commit 29072b9607, but moved
around in commit 66507c7bc8 ("mtd: nand: Add support to use nand_base

f27ca140ad UBI: Fastmap: Fix race in ubi_eba_atomic_leb_change()
[ Upstream commit 36a87e44f6 ]

This function a) requests a new PEB, b) writes data to it,
c) returns the old PEB and d) registers the new PEB in the EBA table.

For the non-fastmap case this works perfectly fine and is powercut safe.
Is fastmap enabled this can lead to issues.
If a new fastmap is written between a) and c) the freshly requested PEB
is no longer in a pool and will not be scanned upon attaching.
If now a powercut happens between c) and d) the freshly requested PEB
will not be scanned and the old one got already scheduled for erase.
After attaching the EBA table will point to a erased PEB.

Fix this issue by swapping steps c) and d).

UBI checks static volumes for data consistency and reads the
whole volume upon first open. If the volume is found erroneous
users of UBI cannot read from it, but another volume update is
possible to fix it. The check is performed by running
ubi_eba_read_leb() on every allocated LEB of the volume.
For static volumes ubi_eba_read_leb() computes the checksum of all
data stored in a LEB. To verify the computed checksum it has to read
the LEB's volume header which stores the original checksum.
If the volume header is not found UBI treats this as fatal internal
error and switches to RO mode. If the UBI device was attached via a
full scan the assumption is correct, the volume header has to be
present as it had to be there while scanning to get known as mapped.
If the attach operation happened via Fastmap the assumption is no
longer correct. When attaching via Fastmap UBI learns the mapping
table from Fastmap's snapshot of the system state and not via a full
scan. It can happen that a LEB got unmapped after a Fastmap was
written to the flash. Then UBI can learn the LEB still as mapped and
accessing it returns only 0xFF bytes. As UBI is not a FTL it is
allowed to have mappings to empty PEBs, it assumes that the layer
above takes care of LEB accounting and referencing.
UBIFS does so using the LEB property tree (LPT).
For static volumes UBI blindly assumes that all LEBs are present and
therefore special actions have to be taken.

The described situation can happen when updating a static volume is
interrupted, either by a user or a power cut.
The volume update code first unmaps all LEBs of a volume and then
writes LEB by LEB. If the sequence of operations is interrupted UBI
detects this either by the absence of LEBs, no volume header present
at scan time, or corrupted payload, detected via checksum.
In the Fastmap case the former method won't trigger as no scan
happened and UBI automatically thinks all LEBs are present.
Only by reading data from a LEB it detects that the volume header is
missing and incorrectly treats this as fatal error.
To deal with the situation ubi_eba_read_leb() from now on checks
whether we attached via Fastmap and handles the absence of a
volume header like a data corruption error.
This way interrupted static volume updates will correctly get detected
also when Fastmap is used.

UBI uses positive function return codes internally, and should not propagate

from Dan Carpenter:

The problem is really in ubi_eba_read_leb().

   423                                  if (err == UBI_IO_BAD_HDR_EBADMSG ||
   424                                      err == UBI_IO_BAD_HDR) {
   425 ubi_warn("corrupted VID header at PEB %d, LEB %d:%d",

   427                                          err = -EBADMSG;
   428 } else
   429                                          ubi_ro_mode(ubi);

On this path we return UBI_IO_FF and UBI_IO_FF_BITFLIPS and it
eventually gets passed to ERR_PTR(). We probably dereference the bad
pointer and oops. At that point we've gone read only so it was already
a bad situation...

   430                          }

However, during a read PIO access, the datasheet specifies that after each 32
bytes read in that register, when BCH is enabled, we have to make sure that the
RDDREQ bit is set in the NDSR register.

This fixes an issue that was seen on the Armada 385, and presumably other mvebu
SoCs, when a read on a newly erased page would end up in the driver reporting a
timeout from the NAND.

53575aa5ba mtd: nand: omap: Fix NAND enumeration on 3430 LDP
commit 775a9134f4 upstream.

3430LDP has NAND flash with 32 bytes OOB size which is sufficient to hold
BCH8 codes but the small page check introduced in
commit b491da7233 ("mtd: nand: omap: clean-up ecc layout for BCH ecc schemes")
considers anything below 64 bytes unsuitable for BCH4/8/16. There is another
bug in that code where it doesn't skip the check for OMAP_ECC_HAM1_CODE_SW.

Get rid of that small page check code as it is insufficient and redundant
because we are checking for OOB available bytes vs ecc layout before calling
nand_scan_tail().

85ce61f0ca UBI: Fix invalid vfree()
commit f38aed975c upstream.

The logic of vfree()'ing vol->upd_buf is tied to vol->updating.
In ubi_start_update() vol->updating is set long before vmalloc()'ing
vol->upd_buf. If we encounter a write failure in ubi_start_update()
before vmalloc() the UBI device release function will try to vfree()
vol->upd_buf because vol->updating is set.
Fix this by allocating vol->upd_buf directly after setting vol->updating.

89cf38dd53 mtd: cfi_cmdset_0001.c: fix resume for LH28F640BF chips
After '#echo mem > /sys/power/state' some devices can not be properly resumed
because apparently the MTD Partition Configuration Register has been reset
to default thus the rootfs cannot be mounted cleanly on resume.
An example of this can be found in the SA-1100 Developer's Manual at 9.5.3.3
where the second step of the Sleep Shutdown Sequence is described:
"An internal reset is applied to the SA-1100. All units are reset...".

As workaround we refresh the PCR value as done initially on chip setup.

This behavior and the fix are confirmed by our tests done on 2 different Zaurus
collie units with kernel 3.17.

a5b7616c55 mtd: m25p80,spi-nor: Fix module aliases for m25p80
m25p80's device ID table is now spi_nor_ids, defined in spi-nor. The
MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE() macro doesn't work with extern definitions, but
its use was also removed at the same time. Now if m25p80 is built as
a module it doesn't get the necessary aliases to be loaded
automatically.

A clean solution to this will involve defining the list of device
IDs in spi-nor.h and removing struct spi_device_id from the spi-nor
API, but this is quite a large change.

As a quick fix suitable for stable, copy the device IDs back into
m25p80.

e7cd6824fd mtd: nand: Force omap_elm to be built as a module if omap2_nand is a module
This commit adds a hidden option to build the omap_elm as a module, if
omap2_nand is a module (and similarly in the built-in case).

This fixes the following build error when omap2_nand is chosen built-in,
and omap_elm is chosen as a module:

drivers/built-in.o: In function `omap_nand_probe':
drivers/mtd/nand/omap2.c:2010: undefined reference to `elm_config'
drivers/mtd/nand/omap2.c:1980: undefined reference to `elm_config'
drivers/mtd/nand/omap2.c:1927: undefined reference to `elm_config'
drivers/built-in.o: In function `omap_elm_correct_data':
drivers/mtd/nand/omap2.c:1444: undefined reference to `elm_decode_bch_error_page'

b277da0a8a block: disable entropy contributions for nonrot devices
Clear QUEUE_FLAG_ADD_RANDOM in all block drivers that set
QUEUE_FLAG_NONROT.

Historically, all block devices have automatically made entropy
contributions. But as previously stated in commit e2e1a148 ("block: add
sysfs knob for turning off disk entropy contributions"):
    - On SSD disks, the completion times aren't as random as they
are for rotational drives. So it's questionable whether they
should contribute to the random pool in the first place.
    - Calling add_disk_randomness() has a lot of overhead.

There are more reliable sources for randomness than non-rotational block
devices. From a security perspective it is better to err on the side of
caution than to allow entropy contributions from unreliable "random"
sources.

32f1b7c835 mtd: move support for struct flash_platform_data into m25p80
This "type" seems to be an extra hint for m25p80 about the flash. Some
archs register flash_platform_data with "name" set to "m25p80" and then
with a real flash name set in "type". It seems to be a trick specific
to the m25p80 so let's move it out of spi-nor.
Btw switch to the spi_nor_match_id instead of iterating spi_nor_ids.

57cf26c1b2 mtd: spi-nor: add Kconfig option to disable 4K sectors
Current situation with 4K sectors is quite messy. First of all, some
MTD "users" don't work with such small size. An example may be UBIFS
which requires 15 KiB erase blocks as a minimum. In theory spi-nor
should provide multiple erase regions and MTD "users" should use the
one they need. Unforunately that is not implemented.

In the result our flashes database in spi-nor is hackish. For some
flashes we pretend they don't support 4K sectors just because some
distribution uses UBIFS on it. This ofc leads to conflicts, like
Samsung using w25q128 with 4K sectors vs. OpenWrt requiring it to
pretend it's 64 KiB blocks only.

My idea (plan?) for fixing this situation:
1) Use real hw info (this requires a way for disabling 4K for now)
2) Provide detailed info about erase regions
3) Make UBIFS work with devices that support 4K sectors

849271a4e4 UBI: wl: Rename cancel flag to shutdown
It confused me more than once that the cancel flag of the
work function does not indicate the cancellation of a single work.
In fact it indicates the WL sub-system shutdown and therefore
worker functions have to free their wl_entries too.
That's why you cannot cancel a single work, you can only shutdown
all works.

b91671bb23 UBI: Fix livelock in produce_free_peb()
The while loop in produce_free_peb() assumes that each work will produce a

nobody schedules an erase work.

93af53b863 nand: omap2: Remove horrible ifdefs to fix module probe
The current code abuses ifdefs to determine if the selected ECC scheme
is supported by the running kernel. As a result the code is hard to read,
and it also fails to load as a module.

This commit removes all the ifdefs and instead introduces a function
omap2_nand_ecc_check() to check if the ECC is supported by using
IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_xxx).

Since IS_ENABLED() is true when a config is =y or =m, this change fixes the
module so it can be loaded with no issues.
