acc96729e1 tcp: fix under-evaluated ssthresh in TCP Vegas
[ Upstream commit cf5d74b85e ]

With the commit 76174004a0 (tcp: do not slow start when cwnd equals
ssthresh), the comparison to the reduced cwnd in tcp_vegas_ssthresh() would
under-evaluate the ssthresh.

29c4f517ff net: ipconfig: fix ic_close_devs() use-after-free
[ Upstream commit ffefb6f4d6 ]

Our chosen ic_dev may be anywhere in our list of ic_devs, and we may
free it before attempting to close others. When we compare d->dev and
ic_dev->dev, we're potentially dereferencing memory returned to the
allocator. This causes KASAN to scream for each subsequent ic_dev we
check.

As there's a 1-1 mapping between ic_devs and netdevs, we can instead
compare d and ic_dev directly, which implicitly handles the !ic_dev
case, and avoids the use-after-free. The ic_dev pointer may be stale,
but we will not dereference it.

Original splat:

b5ed572a1b netfilter: nf_nat_snmp: Fix panic when snmp_trap_helper fails to register
[ Upstream commit 75c689dca9 ]

In the commit 93557f53e1 ("netfilter: nf_conntrack: nf_conntrack snmp
helper"), the snmp_helper is replaced by nf_nat_snmp_hook. So the
snmp_helper is never registered. But it still tries to unregister the
snmp_helper, it could cause the panic.

Now remove the useless snmp_helper and the unregister call in the
error handler.

7656871eff inet: frag: release spinlock before calling icmp_send()
[ Upstream commit ec4fbd6475 ]

Dmitry reported a lockdep splat [1] (false positive) that we can fix
by releasing the spinlock before calling icmp_send() from ip_expire()

This is a false positive because sending an ICMP message can not
possibly re-enter the IP frag engine.

8f23eb16af icmp: don't fail on fragment reassembly time exceeded
[ Upstream commit 258bbb1b0e ]

The ICMP implementation currently replies to an ICMP time exceeded message
(type 11) with an ICMP host unreachable message (type 3, code 1).

However, time exceeded messages can either represent "time to live exceeded
in transit" (code 0) or "fragment reassembly time exceeded" (code 1).

Unconditionally replying to "fragment reassembly time exceeded" with
host unreachable messages might cause unjustified connection resets
which are now easily triggered as UFO has been removed, because, in turn,
sending large buffers triggers IP fragmentation.

The issue can be easily reproduced by running a lot of UDP streams
which is likely to trigger IP fragmentation:

  # start netserver in the test namespace
  ip netns add test
  ip netns exec test netserver

  # create a VETH pair
ip link add name veth0 type veth peer name veth0 netns test
  ip link set veth0 up
ip -n test link set veth0 up

  for i in $(seq 20 29); do
      # assign addresses to both ends
ip addr add dev veth0 192.168.$i.1/24
ip -n test addr add dev veth0 192.168.$i.2/24

      # start the traffic
      netperf -L 192.168.$i.1 -H 192.168.$i.2 -t UDP_STREAM -l 0 &
  done

  # wait
send_data: data send error: No route to host (errno 113)
netperf: send_omni: send_data failed: No route to host

We need to differentiate instead: if fragment reassembly time exceeded
is reported, we need to silently drop the packet,
if time to live exceeded is reported, maintain the current behaviour.
In both cases increment the related error count "icmpInTimeExcds".

While at it, fix a typo in a comment, and convert the if statement
into a switch to mate it more readable.

aa0080f1ad tcp/dccp: block bh before arming time_wait timer
[ Upstream commit cfac7f836a ]

Maciej Żenczykowski reported some panics in tcp_twsk_destructor()
that might be caused by the following bug.

timewait timer is pinned to the cpu, because we want to transition
timwewait refcount from 0 to 4 in one go, once everything has been
initialized.

At the time commit ed2e923945 ("tcp/dccp: fix timewait races in timer
handling") was merged, TCP was always running from BH habdler.

After commit 5413d1babe ("net: do not block BH while processing
socket backlog") we definitely can run tcp_time_wait() from process
context.

We need to block BH in the critical section so that the pinned timer
has still its purpose.

This bug is more likely to happen under stress and when very small RTO
are used in datacenter flows.

007e20bd0f route: update fnhe_expires for redirect when the fnhe exists
[ Upstream commit e39d524611 ]

Now when creating fnhe for redirect, it sets fnhe_expires for this
new route cache. But when updating the exist one, it doesn't do it.
It will cause this fnhe never to be expired.

Paolo already noticed it before, in Jianlin's test case, it became
even worse:

When ip route flush cache, the old fnhe is not to be removed, but
only clean it's members. When redirect comes again, this fnhe will
be found and updated, but never be expired due to fnhe_expires not
being set.

So fix it by simply updating fnhe_expires even it's for redirect.

7c4fa0c1c9 route: also update fnhe_genid when updating a route cache
[ Upstream commit cebe84c619 ]

Now when ip route flush cache and it turn out all fnhe_genid != genid.
If a redirect/pmtu icmp packet comes and the old fnhe is found and all
it's members but fnhe_genid will be updated.

Then next time when it looks up route and tries to rebind this fnhe to
the new dst, the fnhe will be flushed due to fnhe_genid != genid. It
causes this redirect/pmtu icmp packet acutally not to be applied.

This patch is to also reset fnhe_genid when updating a route cache.

8818eb851c netfilter: don't track fragmented packets
[ Upstream commit 7b4fdf77a4 ]

Andrey reports syzkaller splat caused by

NF_CT_ASSERT(!ip_is_fragment(ip_hdr(skb)));

in ipv4 nat. But this assertion (and the comment) are wrong, this function
does see fragments when IP_NODEFRAG setsockopt is used.

As conntrack doesn't track packets without complete l4 header, only the
first fragment is tracked.

Because applying nat to first packet but not the rest makes no sense this
also turns off tracking of all fragments.

5c68a428aa net: Allow IP_MULTICAST_IF to set index to L3 slave
[ Upstream commit 7bb387c5ab ]

IP_MULTICAST_IF fails if sk_bound_dev_if is already set and the new index
does not match it. e.g.,

    ntpd[15381]: setsockopt IP_MULTICAST_IF 192.168.1.23 fails: Invalid argument

Relax the check in setsockopt to allow setting mc_index to an L3 slave if
sk_bound_dev_if points to an L3 master.

Make a similar change for IPv6. In this case change the device lookup to
take the rcu_read_lock avoiding a refcnt. The rcu lock is also needed for
the lookup of a potential L3 master device.

This really only silences a setsockopt failure since uses of mc_index are
secondary to sk_bound_dev_if if it is set. In both cases, if either index
is an L3 slave or master, lookups are directed to the same FIB table so
relaxing the check at setsockopt time causes no harm.

Patch is based on a suggested change by Darwin for a problem noted in
their code base.

3920a5bdd9 tcp: do not mangle skb->cb[] in tcp_make_synack()
[ Upstream commit 3b11775033 ]

Christoph Paasch sent a patch to address the following issue :

tcp_make_synack() is leaving some TCP private info in skb->cb[],
then send the packet by other means than tcp_transmit_skb()

tcp_transmit_skb() makes sure to clear skb->cb[] to not confuse
IPv4/IPV6 stacks, but we have no such cleanup for SYNACK.

tcp_make_synack() should not use tcp_init_nondata_skb() :

tcp_init_nondata_skb() really should be limited to skbs put in write/rtx
queues (the ones that are only sent via tcp_transmit_skb())

This patch fixes the issue and should even save few cpu cycles ;)

fe975496da tcp: provide timestamps for partial writes
[ Upstream commit ad02c4f547 ]

For TCP sockets, TX timestamps are only captured when the user data
is successfully and fully written to the socket. In many cases,
however, TCP writes can be partial for which no timestamp is
collected.

Collect timestamps whenever any user data is (fully or partially)
copied into the socket. Pass tcp_write_queue_tail to tcp_tx_timestamp
instead of the local skb pointer since it can be set to NULL on
the error path.

Note that tcp_write_queue_tail can be NULL, even if bytes have been
copied to the socket. This is because acknowledgements are being
processed in tcp_sendmsg(), and by the time tcp_tx_timestamp is
called tcp_write_queue_tail can be NULL. For such cases, this patch
does not collect any timestamps (i.e., it is best-effort).

This patch is written with suggestions from Willem de Bruijn and
Eric Dumazet.

df0eebcea8 ipip: only increase err_count for some certain type icmp in ipip_err
[ Upstream commit f3594f0a7e ]

t->err_count is used to count the link failure on tunnel and an err
will be reported to user socket in tx path if t->err_count is not 0.
udp socket could even return EHOSTUNREACH to users.

Since commit fd58156e45 ("IPIP: Use ip-tunneling code.") removed
the 'switch check' for icmp type in ipip_err(), err_count would be
increased by the icmp packet with ICMP_EXC_FRAGTIME code. an link
failure would be reported out due to this.

In Jianlin's case, when receiving ICMP_EXC_FRAGTIME a icmp packet,
udp netperf failed with the err:
send_data: data send error: No route to host (errno 113)

We expect this error reported from tunnel to socket when receiving
some certain type icmp, but not ICMP_EXC_FRAGTIME, ICMP_SR_FAILED
or ICMP_PARAMETERPROB ones.

This patch is to bring 'switch check' for icmp type back to ipip_err
so that it only reports link failure for the right type icmp, just as
in ipgre_err() and ipip6_err().

2af59c6557 tcp/dccp: fix other lockdep splats accessing ireq_opt
[ Upstream commit 06f877d613 ]

In my first attempt to fix the lockdep splat, I forgot we could
enter inet_csk_route_req() with a freshly allocated request socket,
for which refcount has not yet been elevated, due to complex
SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU rules.

We either are in rcu_read_lock() section _or_ we own a refcount on the
request.

Correct RCU verb to use here is rcu_dereference_check(), although it is
not possible to prove we actually own a reference on a shared
refcount :/

In v2, I added ireq_opt_deref() helper and use in three places, to fix other
possible splats.

double allocation by running these paths concurrently.

This patch moves the check for double allocation into the reuseport_alloc
function which is protected by a global spin lock.

2ffd261337 tcp/dccp: fix ireq->opt races
[ Upstream commit c92e8c02fe ]

syzkaller found another bug in DCCP/TCP stacks [1]

For the reasons explained in commit ce1050089c ("tcp/dccp: fix
ireq->pktopts race"), we need to make sure we do not access
ireq->opt unless we own the request sock.

Note the opt field is renamed to ireq_opt to ease grep games.

e12c42c552 tcp: fix tcp_mtu_probe() vs highest_sack
[ Upstream commit 2b7cda9c35 ]

Based on SNMP values provided by Roman, Yuchung made the observation
that some crashes in tcp_sacktag_walk() might be caused by MTU probing.

Looking at tcp_mtu_probe(), I found that when a new skb was placed
in front of the write queue, we were not updating tcp highest sack.

If one skb is freed because all its content was copied to the new skb
(for MTU probing), then tp->highest_sack could point to a now freed skb.

Bad things would then happen, including infinite loops.

This patch renames tcp_highest_sack_combine() and uses it
from tcp_mtu_probe() to fix the bug.

Note that I also removed one test against tp->sacked_out,
since we want to replace tp->highest_sack regardless of whatever
condition, since keeping a stale pointer to freed skb is a recipe
for disaster.

97ba8f88b4 gso: fix payload length when gso_size is zero
[ Upstream commit 3d0241d57c ]

When gso_size reset to zero for the tail segment in skb_segment(), later
in ipv6_gso_segment(), __skb_udp_tunnel_segment() and gre_gso_segment()
we will get incorrect results (payload length, pcsum) for that segment.
inet_gso_segment() already has a check for gso_size before calculating
payload.

e41c105195 IPsec: do not ignore crypto err in ah4 input
[ Upstream commit ebd89a2d06 ]

ah4 input processing uses the asynchronous hash crypto API which
supplies an error code as part of the operation completion but
the error code was being ignored.

Treat a crypto API error indication as a verification failure.

While a crypto API reported error would almost certainly result
in a memcpy of the digest failing anyway and thus the security
risk seems minor, performing a memory compare on what might be
uninitialized memory is wrong.

b463521db8 tcp: fastopen: fix on syn-data transmit failure
[ Upstream commit b5b7db8d68 ]

Our recent change exposed a bug in TCP Fastopen Client that syzkaller
found right away [1]

When we prepare skb with SYN+DATA, we attempt to transmit it,
and we update socket state as if the transmit was a success.

In socket RTX queue we have two skbs, one with the SYN alone,
and a second one containing the DATA.

When (malicious) ACK comes in, we now complain that second one had no
skb_mstamp.

The proper fix is to make sure that if the transmit failed, we do not
pretend we sent the DATA skb, and make it our send_head.

When 3WHS completes, we can now send the DATA right away, without having
to wait for a timeout.

186a9c5e70 tcp: update skb->skb_mstamp more carefully
[ Upstream commit 8c72c65b42 ]

liujian reported a problem in TCP_USER_TIMEOUT processing with a patch
in tcp_probe_timer() :
      https://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg454496.html

After investigations, the root cause of the problem is that we update
skb->skb_mstamp of skbs in write queue, even if the attempt to send a
clone or copy of it failed. One reason being a routing problem.

This patch prevents this, solving liujian issue.

It also removes a potential RTT miscalculation, since
__tcp_retransmit_skb() is not OR-ing TCP_SKB_CB(skb)->sacked with
TCPCB_EVER_RETRANS if a failure happens, but skb->skb_mstamp has
been changed.

A future ACK would then lead to a very small RTT sample and min_rtt
would then be lowered to this too small value.

146561a3f1 netfilter: invoke synchronize_rcu after set the _hook_ to NULL
[ Upstream commit 3b7dabf029 ]

Otherwise, another CPU may access the invalid pointer. For example:
    CPU0 CPU1
     -              rcu_read_lock();
     -              pfunc = _hook_;
  _hook_ = NULL;          -
  mod unload -
     -                 pfunc(); // invalid, panic
     -             rcu_read_unlock();

So we must call synchronize_rcu() to wait the rcu reader to finish.

Also note, in nf_nat_snmp_basic_fini, synchronize_rcu() will be invoked
by later nf_conntrack_helper_unregister, but I'm inclined to add a
explicit synchronize_rcu after set the nf_nat_snmp_hook to NULL. Depend
on such obscure assumptions is not a good idea.

Last, in nfnetlink_cttimeout, we use kfree_rcu to free the time object,
so in cttimeout_exit, invoking rcu_barrier() is not necessary at all,
remove it too.

affd26096a udp: disable inner UDP checksum offloads in IPsec case
[ Upstream commit b40c5f4fde ]

Otherwise, UDP checksum offloads could corrupt ESP packets by attempting
to calculate UDP checksum when this inner UDP packet is already protected
by IPsec.

One way to reproduce this bug is to have a VM with virtio_net driver (UFO
set to ON in the guest VM); and then encapsulate all guest's Ethernet
frames in Geneve; and then further encrypt Geneve with IPsec. In this
case following symptoms are observed:
1. If using ixgbe NIC, then it will complain with following error message:
   ixgbe 0000:01:00.1: partial checksum but l4 proto=32!
2. Receiving IPsec stack will drop all the corrupted ESP packets and
   increase XfrmInStateProtoError counter in /proc/net/xfrm_stat.
3. iperf UDP test from the VM with packet sizes above MTU will not work at
   all.
4. iperf TCP test from the VM will get ridiculously low performance because.

5a7a40bad2 Revert "net: use lib/percpu_counter API for fragmentation mem accounting"
[ Upstream commit fb452a1aa3 ]

This reverts commit 6d7b857d54.

There is a bug in fragmentation codes use of the percpu_counter API,
that can cause issues on systems with many CPUs.

The frag_mem_limit() just reads the global counter (fbc->count),
without considering other CPUs can have upto batch size (130K) that
haven't been subtracted yet. Due to the 3MBytes lower thresh limit,
this become dangerous at >=24 CPUs (3*1024*1024/130000=24).

The correct API usage would be to use __percpu_counter_compare() which
does the right thing, and takes into account the number of (online)
CPUs and batch size, to account for this and call __percpu_counter_sum()
when needed.

We choose to revert the use of the lib/percpu_counter API for frag
memory accounting for several reasons:

1) On systems with CPUs > 24, the heavier fully locked
__percpu_counter_sum() is always invoked, which will be more
expensive than the atomic_t that is reverted to.

Given systems with more than 24 CPUs are becoming common this doesn't
seem like a good option. To mitigate this, the batch size could be
decreased and thresh be increased.

2) The add_frag_mem_limit+sub_frag_mem_limit pairs happen on the RX
CPU, before SKBs are pushed into sockets on remote CPUs. Given
NICs can only hash on L2 part of the IP-header, the NIC-RXq's will
likely be limited. Thus, a fair chance that atomic add+dec happen
   on the same CPU.

Revert note that commit 1d6119baf0 ("net: fix percpu memory leaks")
removed init_frag_mem_limit() and instead use inet_frags_init_net().
After this revert, inet_frags_uninit_net() becomes empty.

aadbe1fe91 tcp: when rearming RTO, if RTO time is in past then fire RTO ASAP
[ Upstream commit cdbeb633ca ]

In some situations tcp_send_loss_probe() can realize that it's unable
to send a loss probe (TLP), and falls back to calling tcp_rearm_rto()
to schedule an RTO timer. In such cases, sometimes tcp_rearm_rto()
realizes that the RTO was eligible to fire immediately or at some
point in the past (delta_us <= 0). Previously in such cases
tcp_rearm_rto() was scheduling such "overdue" RTOs to happen at now +
icsk_rto, which caused needless delays of hundreds of milliseconds
(and non-linear behavior that made reproducible testing
difficult). This commit changes the logic to schedule "overdue" RTOs
ASAP, rather than at now + icsk_rto.

Commit dcd87999d4 ("igmp: net: Move igmp namespace init to correct file")
moved the igmp sysctls initialization from tcp_sk_init to igmp_net_init. This
function is only called as part of per-namespace initialization, only if
CONFIG_IP_MULTICAST is defined, otherwise igmp_mc_init() call in ip_init is
compiled out, casuing the igmp pernet ops to not be registerd and those sysctl
being left initialized with 0. However, there are certain functions, such as
ip_mc_join_group which are always compiled and make use of some of those
sysctls. Let's do a partial revert of the aforementioned commit and move the
sysctl initialization into inet_init_net, that way they will always have
sane values.

69ffc9644f net: avoid skb_warn_bad_offload false positives on UFO
[ Upstream commit 8d63bee643 ]

skb_warn_bad_offload triggers a warning when an skb enters the GSO
stack at __skb_gso_segment that does not have CHECKSUM_PARTIAL
checksum offload set.

Commit b2504a5dbe ("net: reduce skb_warn_bad_offload() noise")
observed that SKB_GSO_DODGY producers can trigger the check and
that passing those packets through the GSO handlers will fix it
up. But, the software UFO handler will set ip_summed to
CHECKSUM_NONE.

When __skb_gso_segment is called from the receive path, this
triggers the warning again.

Make UFO set CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY instead of CHECKSUM_NONE. On
Tx these two are equivalent. On Rx, this better matches the
skb state (checksum computed), as CHECKSUM_NONE here means no
checksum computed.

ef09c9ff34 net: account for current skb length when deciding about UFO
[ Upstream commit a5cb659bbc ]

Our customer encountered stuck NFS writes for blocks starting at specific
offsets w.r.t. page boundary caused by networking stack sending packets via
UFO enabled device with wrong checksum. The problem can be reproduced by
composing a long UDP datagram from multiple parts using MSG_MORE flag:

  sendto(sd, buff, 1000, MSG_MORE, ...);
  sendto(sd, buff, 1000, MSG_MORE, ...);
  sendto(sd, buff, 3000, 0, ...);

Assume this packet is to be routed via a device with MTU 1500 and
NETIF_F_UFO enabled. When second sendto() gets into __ip_append_data(),
this condition is tested (among others) to decide whether to call
ip_ufo_append_data():

  ((length + fragheaderlen) > mtu) || (skb && skb_is_gso(skb))

At the moment, we already have skb with 1028 bytes of data which is not
marked for GSO so that the test is false (fragheaderlen is usually 20).
Thus we append second 1000 bytes to this skb without invoking UFO. Third
sendto(), however, has sufficient length to trigger the UFO path so that we
end up with non-UFO skb followed by a UFO one. Later on, udp_send_skb()
uses udp_csum() to calculate the checksum but that assumes all fragments
have correct checksum in skb->csum which is not true for UFO fragments.

When checking against MTU, we need to add skb->len to length of new segment
if we already have a partially filled skb and fragheaderlen only if there
isn't one.

In the IPv6 case, skb can only be null if this is the first segment so that
we have to use headersize (length of the first IPv6 header) rather than
fragheaderlen (length of IPv6 header of further fragments) for skb == NULL.

f102bb7164 ipv4: Should use consistent conditional judgement for ip fragment in __ip_append_data and ip_finish_output
[ Upstream commit 0a28cfd51e ]

There is an inconsistent conditional judgement in __ip_append_data and
ip_finish_output functions, the variable length in __ip_append_data just
include the length of application's payload and udp header, don't include
the length of ip header, but in ip_finish_output use
(skb->len > ip_skb_dst_mtu(skb)) as judgement, and skb->len include the
length of ip header.

That causes some particular application's udp payload whose length is
between (MTU - IP Header) and MTU were fragmented by ip_fragment even
though the rst->dev support UFO feature.

Add the length of ip header to length in __ip_append_data to keep
consistent conditional judgement as ip_finish_output for ip fragment.

0c47f11bc4 ipv4: initialize fib_trie prior to register_netdev_notifier call.
[ Upstream commit 8799a221f5 ]

Net stack initialization currently initializes fib-trie after the
first call to netdevice_notifier() call. In fact fib_trie initialization
needs to happen before first rtnl_register(). It does not cause any problem
since there are no devices UP at this moment, but trying to bring 'lo'
UP at initialization would make this assumption wrong and exposes the issue.

0cd73c42b7 tcp_bbr: init pacing rate on first RTT sample
[ Upstream commit 3298456557 ]

Fixes the following behavior: for connections that had no RTT sample
at the time of initializing congestion control, BBR was initializing
the pacing rate to a high nominal rate (based an a guess of RTT=1ms,
in case this is LAN traffic). Then BBR never adjusted the pacing rate
downward upon obtaining an actual RTT sample, if the connection never
filled the pipe (e.g. all sends were small app-limited writes()).

This fix adjusts the pacing rate upon obtaining the first RTT sample.
