- Fix the #ifndef that didn't have CONFIG_ on HAVE_DYNAMIC_FTRACE_WITH_REGS
The fix to have dynamic trampolines work with x86 broke arm64 as
the config used in the #ifdef was HAVE_DYNAMIC_FTRACE_WITH_REGS and not
CONFIG_HAVE_DYNAMIC_FTRACE_WITH_REGS which removed the fix that the
previous fix was to fix.
- Fix tracing_on state
The code to test if "tracing_on" is set used ring_buffer_record_is_on()
which returns false if the ring buffer isn't able to be written to.
But the ring buffer disable has several bits that disable it.
One is internal disabling which is used for resizing and other
modifications of the ring buffer. But the "tracing_on" user space
visible flag should only report if tracing is actually on and not
internally disabled, as this can cause confusion as writing "1"
when it is disabled will not enable it.
Instead use ring_buffer_record_is_set_on() which shows the user space
visible settings.
- Fix a false positive kmemleak on saved cmdlines
Now that the saved_cmdlines structure is allocated via alloc_page()
and not via kmalloc() it has become invisible to kmemleak.
The allocation done to one of its pointers was flagged as a
dangling allocation leak. Make kmemleak aware of this allocation
and free.
- Fix synthetic event dynamic strings.
A update that cleaned up the synthetic event code removed the
return value of trace_string(), and had it return zero instead
of the length, causing dynamic strings in the synthetic event
to always have zero size.

In commit 4356e9f841 ("work around gcc bugs with 'asm goto' with
outputs") I did the gcc workaround unconditionally, because the cause of
the bad code generation wasn't entirely clear.
In the meantime, Jakub Jelinek debugged the issue, and has come up with
a fix in gcc [2], which also got backported to the still maintained
branches of gcc-11, gcc-12 and gcc-13.
Note that while the fix technically wasn't in the original gcc-14
branch, Jakub says:
"while it is true that no GCC 14 snapshots until today (or whenever the
fix will be committed) have the fix, for GCC trunk it is up to the
distros to use the latest snapshot if they use it at all and would
allow better testing of the kernel code without the workaround, so
that if there are other issues they won't be discovered years later.
Most userland code doesn't actually use asm goto with outputs..."
so we will consider gcc-14 to be fixed - if somebody is using gcc
snapshots of the gcc-14 before the fix, they should upgrade.
Note that while the bug goes back to gcc-11, in practice other gcc
changes seem to have effectively hidden it since gcc-12.1 as per a
bisect by Jakub. So even a gcc-14 snapshot without the fix likely
doesn't show actual problems.
Also, make the default 'asm_goto_output()' macro mark the asm as
volatile by hand, because of an unrelated gcc issue [1] where it doesn't
match the documented behavior ("asm goto is always volatile").

Usual mixed bag of issues introduced this cycle and fixes for long term
issues that have been identified recently + one case where I messed up
a merge resolution and dropped the build file changes.
Most important is the userspace ABI fix for the iio_modifier enum
where we accidentally added new entries in the middle rather than at
the end.
IIO Core
- Close a memory leak in an error path.
- Move LIGHT_UVA and LIGHT_UVB definitions to end of the iio_modifier
enum to avoid breaking older userspace. (not yet in a released kernel
thankfully).
adi,adis
- Fix a DMA buffer alignment issue that was missing in series that fixed
these across IIO.
adi,ad-sigma-delta
- Fix a DMA buffer alignment issue that was missing in series that fixed
these across IIO.
adi,ad4130
- Zero init remaining fields of clock init data.
- Only set GPIO control bits on pins that aren't in use for anything else.

NVM Express TP4167 provides a way for controllers to report a relaxed
execution constraint. Specifically, it notifies of exclusivity for IO
vs. admin commands instead of grouping these together. If set, then we
don't need to freeze IO in order to execute that admin command. The
freezing distrupts IO processes, so it's nice to avoid that if the
controller tells us it's not necessary.

Merge tag 'vfs-6.8-rc5.fixes' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs
Pull vfs fixes from Christian Brauner:
- Fix performance regression introduced by moving the security
permission hook out of do_clone_file_range() and into its caller
vfs_clone_file_range().
This causes the security hook to be called in situation were it
wasn't called before as the fast permission checks were left in
do_clone_file_range().
Fix this by merging the two implementations back together and
restoring the old ordering: fast permission checks first, expensive
ones later.
- Tweak mount_setattr() permission checking so that mount properties on
the real rootfs can be changed.
When we added mount_setattr() we added additional checks compared to
legacy mount(2). If the mount had a parent then verify that the
caller and the mount namespace the mount is attached to match and if
not make sure that it's an anonymous mount.
But the real rootfs falls into neither category. It is neither an
anoymous mount because it is obviously attached to the initial mount
namespace but it also obviously doesn't have a parent mount. So that
means legacy mount(2) allows changing mount properties on the real
rootfs but mount_setattr(2) blocks this. This causes regressions (See
the commit for details).
Fix this by relaxing the check. If the mount has a parent or if it
isn't a detached mount, verify that the mount namespaces of the
caller and the mount are the same. Technically, we could probably
write this even simpler and check that the mount namespaces match if
it isn't a detached mount. But the slightly longer check makes it
clearer what conditions one needs to think about.

We've had issues with gcc and 'asm goto' before, and we created a
'asm_volatile_goto()' macro for that in the past: see commits
3f0116c323 ("compiler/gcc4: Add quirk for 'asm goto' miscompilation
bug") and a9f180345f ("compiler/gcc4: Make quirk for
asm_volatile_goto() unconditional").
Then, much later, we ended up removing the workaround in commit
43c249ea0b ("compiler-gcc.h: remove ancient workaround for gcc PR
58670") because we no longer supported building the kernel with the
affected gcc versions, but we left the macro uses around.
Now, Sean Christopherson reports a new version of a very similar
problem, which is fixed by re-applying that ancient workaround. But the
problem in question is limited to only the 'asm goto with outputs'
cases, so instead of re-introducing the old workaround as-is, let's
rename and limit the workaround to just that much less common case.
It looks like there are at least two separate issues that all hit in
this area:
(a) some versions of gcc don't mark the asm goto as 'volatile' when it
has outputs:
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=98619https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=110420
which is easy to work around by just adding the 'volatile' by hand.
(b) Internal compiler errors:
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=110422
which are worked around by adding the extra empty 'asm' as a
barrier, as in the original workaround.
but the problem Sean sees may be a third thing since it involves bad
code generation (not an ICE) even with the manually added 'volatile'.
but the same old workaround works for this case, even if this feels a
bit like voodoo programming and may only be hiding the issue.

This reverts commit 398aa9a7e7.
The update to the gadget API to support EBC feature is incomplete. It's
missing at least the following:
* New usage documentation
* Gadget capability check
* Condition for the user to check how many and which endpoints can be
used as "fifo_mode"
* Description of how it can affect completed request (e.g. dwc3 won't
update TRB on completion -- ie. how it can affect request's actual
length report)
Let's revert this until it's ready.

Netfilter fixes for net
The following patchset contains Netfilter fixes for net:
1) Narrow down target/match revision to u8 in nft_compat.
2) Bail out with unused flags in nft_compat.
3) Restrict layer 4 protocol to u16 in nft_compat.
4) Remove static in pipapo get command that slipped through when
reducing set memory footprint.
5) Follow up incremental fix for the ipset performance regression,
this includes the missing gc cancellation, from Jozsef Kadlecsik.
6) Allow to filter by zone 0 in ctnetlink, do not interpret zone 0
as no filtering, from Felix Huettner.
7) Reject direction for NFT_CT_ID.
8) Use timestamp to check for set element expiration while transaction
is handled to prevent garbage collection from removing set elements
that were just added by this transaction. Packet path and netlink
dump/get path still use current time to check for expiration.
9) Restore NF_REPEAT in nfnetlink_queue, from Florian Westphal.
10) map_index needs to be percpu and per-set, not just percpu.
At this time its possible for a pipapo set to fill the all-zero part
with ones and take the 'might have bits set' as 'start-from-zero' area.
From Florian Westphal. This includes three patches:
- Change scratchpad area to a structure that provides space for a
per-set-and-cpu toggle and uses it of the percpu one.
- Add a new free helper to prepare for the next patch.
- Remove the scratch_aligned pointer and makes AVX2 implementation
use the exact same memory addresses for read/store of the matching
state.

Add a timestamp field at the beginning of the transaction, store it
in the nftables per-netns area.
Update set backend .insert, .deactivate and sync gc path to use the
timestamp, this avoids that an element expires while control plane
transaction is still unfinished.
.lookup and .update, which are used from packet path, still use the
current time to check if the element has expired. And .get path and dump
also since this runs lockless under rcu read size lock. Then, there is
async gc which also needs to check the current time since it runs
asynchronously from a workqueue.

A short read may occur while reading the message footer from the
socket. Later, when the socket is ready for another read, the
messenger invokes all read_partial_*() handlers, including
read_partial_sparse_msg_data(). The expectation is that
read_partial_sparse_msg_data() would bail, allowing the messenger to
invoke read_partial() for the footer and pick up where it left off.
However read_partial_sparse_msg_data() violates that and ends up
calling into the state machine in the OSD client. The sparse-read
state machine assumes that it's a new op and interprets some piece of
the footer as the sparse-read header and returns bogus extents/data
length, etc.
To determine whether read_partial_sparse_msg_data() should bail, let's
reuse cursor->total_resid. Because once it reaches to zero that means
all the extents and data have been successfully received in last read,
else it could break out when partially reading any of the extents and
data. And then osd_sparse_read() could continue where it left off.

The detection of dirty-throttled tasks in blk-wbt has been subtly broken
since its beginning in 2016. Namely if we are doing cgroup writeback and
the throttled task is not in the root cgroup, balance_dirty_pages() will
set dirty_sleep for the non-root bdi_writeback structure. However
blk-wbt checks dirty_sleep only in the root cgroup bdi_writeback
structure. Thus detection of recently throttled tasks is not working in
this case (we noticed this when we switched to cgroup v2 and suddently
writeback was slow).
Since blk-wbt has no easy way to get to proper bdi_writeback and
furthermore its intention has always been to work on the whole device
rather than on individual cgroups, just move the dirty_sleep timestamp
from bdi_writeback to backing_dev_info. That fixes the checking for
recently throttled task and saves memory for everybody as a bonus.

commit dfad37051a ("remap_range: move permission hooks out of
do_clone_file_range()") moved the permission hooks from
do_clone_file_range() out to its caller vfs_clone_file_range(),
but left all the fast sanity checks in do_clone_file_range().
This makes the expensive security hooks be called in situations
that they would not have been called before (e.g. fs does not support
clone).
The only reason for the do_clone_file_range() helper was that overlayfs
did not use to be able to call vfs_clone_file_range() from copy up
context with sb_writers lock held. However, since commit c63e56a4a6
("ovl: do not open/llseek lower file with upper sb_writers held"),
overlayfs just uses an open coded version of vfs_clone_file_range().
Merge_clone_file_range() into vfs_clone_file_range(), restoring the
original order of checks as it was before the regressing commit and adapt
the overlayfs code to call vfs_clone_file_range() before the permission
hooks that were added by commit ca7ab48240 ("ovl: add permission hooks
outside of do_splice_direct()").
Note that in the merge of do_clone_file_range(), the file_start_write()
context was reduced to cover ->remap_file_range() without holding it
over the permission hooks, which was the reason for doing the regressing
commit in the first place.

The hrtimers migration on CPU-down hotplug process has been moved
earlier, before the CPU actually goes to die. This leaves a small window
of opportunity to queue an hrtimer in a blind spot, leaving it ignored.
For example a practical case has been reported with RCU waking up a
SCHED_FIFO task right before the CPUHP_AP_IDLE_DEAD stage, queuing that
way a sched/rt timer to the local offline CPU.

The tascodec_init() of the snd-soc-tas2781-comlib module is called from
snd-soc-tas2781-i2c and snd-hda-scodec-tas2781-i2c modules. It calls
request_firmware_nowait() with parameter THIS_MODULE and a cont/callback
from the latter modules.
The latter modules can be removed while their callbacks are running,
resulting in a general protection failure.
Add module parameter to tascodec_init() so request_firmware_nowait() can
be called with the module of the callback.

Fix the counting of new acks and nacks when parsing a packet - something
that is used in congestion control.
As the code stands, it merely notes if there are any nacks whereas what we
really should do is compare the previous SACK table to the new one,
assuming we get two successive ACK packets with nacks in them. However, we
really don't want to do that if we can avoid it as the tables might not
correspond directly as one may be shifted from the other - something that
will only get harder to deal with once extended ACK tables come into full
use (with a capacity of up to 8192).
Instead, count the number of nacks shifted out of the old SACK, the number
of nacks retained in the portion still active and the number of new acks
and nacks in the new table then calculate what we need.
Note this ends up a bit of an estimate as the Rx protocol allows acks to be
withdrawn by the receiver and packets requested to be retransmitted.

Aligning the buffer to the L1 cache is not sufficient in some platforms
as they might have larger cacheline sizes for caches after L1 and thus,
we can't guarantee DMA safety.
That was the whole reason to introduce IIO_DMA_MINALIGN in [1]. Do the same
for st_sensors common buffer.
While at it, moved the odr_lock before buffer_data as we definitely
don't want any other data to share a cacheline with the buffer.
