resctrl_arch_rmid_read() is intended as the function that an architecture agnostic resctrl filesystem driver can use to read a value in bytes from a hardware register. Currently the function returns the MBM values in chunks directly from hardware. To convert this to bytes, some correction and overflow calculations are needed. These depend on the resource and domain structures. Overflow detection requires the old chunks value. None of this is available to resctrl_arch_rmid_read(). MPAM requires the resource and domain structures to find the MMIO device that holds the registers. Pass the resource and domain to resctrl_arch_rmid_read(). This makes rmid_dirty() too big. Instead merge it with its only caller, and the name is kept as a local variable. There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
